Witches - spell help

Hey, looking for some advice as in all the years of spell work I have never had this happen before.

i did a spell on the full moon, all very well intentioned, to help me save money. I lit a candle in a special place to me, set my intention, and the candle blew out quite quickly. It was near a window, so I took it to mean spell completed ie wish made.

i took the candle home and lit it again later on the lionsgate portal night to strengthen my resolve. The wax kind of dripped on to my finger and burned me a lot. I’ve never had that happen before. I looked it up and some say it’s a warning (what can it be warning me about, it’s literally just to make me save money 😂) or - very differing view - the spell needed some kind of karmic or energy payment from me, and I “paid” with the burn to add strength and resolve to the spell.

any thoughts? I’ve done this a long time and never cast bad or ill intentioned spells so I don’t know what this was about! Has someone hexed me?

blessed be x

Well, most superstitions have some deep meaning and do no harm. I do the ladders, spilled salt, cracks in pavements, Friday 13th and anything else my Mum did and her Mum did too.

I don’t actually mind wasps all that much. I put out a bit of pastry for a hungry looking one that was flying around my bins earlier.

🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm dying here!

Sure. If you blow out the candles on a birthday cake and make a wish, is that not the same?

How about knocking on wood for luck?

Oh, enough!

@IHateWasps👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Well said! 👍🏻

@NotfeelinguptoitYou don’t get to demand that anyone who has a differing opinion or viewpoint, moves along. That’s not how Mumsnet works, love.

No I don’t get to demand your right 👍🏻

I simply suggested you guys find a thread more suitable for your own interests if this thread is upsetting you.

The OP asked for a bit of advice - she didn’t want a thread of people telling her how her beliefs are nonsense.

Its non of your business what she believes in, nor should it concern you, nor do you have the right to make anybody else feel bad or less than because their opinions differ to your own.

I don't understand why some would want to contribute to this thread if they clearly don't believe in magic. Why not scroll by instead of getting triggered.

Because I believe they truly think we are all waiting with bated breath to hear their thoughts on this and any other subject they feel like bloviating about to the masses.

IridiumSky · 15/08/2025 20:03

Obvious wind-up.

Hilarious: Well done! 😃

I'm dying here!

I was eating it in the garden at the time and it seemed only fair to share. And there may have been an ulterior motive of keeping it away from my table as if you give them a little if what you’re eating if you’re dining outside and put it down away from you, they tend to busy themselves with that piece rather than buzzing around your picnic/lunch.

Elvisismycat · 15/08/2025 20:06

Well, I'm a witch and I'm gonna hex all the " non believers "
Mwah mwah mwah you fuckers!!

Legaleagleplease · 15/08/2025 20:08

Of all the tripe I have heard on MN this has to be the best / worst. I cannot believe people in 2025, with all the science / education we have at our disposal, still follow these practices from the Middle Ages.
Yes, be in touch with nature. Yes, be kind. But do not be stupid and misguided. You are mugging yourself off and making yourself a victim.
Your locus of control is internal, be responsible for what happens to you.

You really are a frustrated school prefect aren’t you? Would you like a badge? Would it help? I can give you a virtual one now or pop it in the post.

For all the self appointed thread police we are on a chat forum. I can post what I like. I don’t expect you to give a shit but this is not The Unexplained so I can post what I like whether or not you approve. And just as you can post what you think but no I am not going to leave the thread just because you think that I have no right to an opinion. I do not have to agree in order to post because this is Chat. Create a dedicated Paganism/Wicca forum or thread in Philosophy if you wish and I shall not trouble you there.

Pontificate away! Just don't be grumpy that you are being laughed at by many for your overzealousness and bloviating.

Just because you are LOUD, unpleasant and unmoving, doesn't make you right. Please understand that little factoid.

I don’t care if anyone is laughing at me least of all woo believers. I’m not grumpy either. Well besides a tad put out at forgetting the washing on the line. I’m in a perfectly fine mood thank you so don’t flatter yourself by thinking that you’re spoiling my evening.

Kreepture · 15/08/2025 20:12

i find it incredulous in this day and age that anyone thinks they're being clever by expressing faux 'surprise' that people still have faith/religion.

Funnily enough, i can 100% believe in science and modern thinking, while still having faith. the two things are not mutually exclusive.

Yes, you have been hexed, take the candle and turn it upside down leave it that way for 3 nights on the 4th night light the candle again and call for any hex to be gone as you blow out the flame. Then you should be right.

Careful, that poster will accuse you of trying to encourage other posters to talk to you from beyond the grave.

This is better than Tattle!!

HevenlyMeS · 15/08/2025 20:16

God Bless You
I wouldn't worry too much about a warning
You seem lovely, sensitive towards others & a kind thoughtful soul
If you truly needed to be worried or concerned, I really feel you would sense what it would be
Wishing You&Yours all the utmost very best

I'll float above it...

OuijaBoard · 15/08/2025 20:18

Not RTFT but I think it's likely that IF the cause of the burn is NOT mundane, it'll be a reason that makes sense in your tradition, not something you'd never have thought of. If it is a debt to be paid for the manifestation of the spell, do you feel that you've paid and can now let things take their course? If it's a warning, I expect it's NOT an extra reminder that your resolve might fail so you won't be successful in saving money, because the original spell and follow-up cover that.

Could it be a warning that there might be negative consequences to your being successful in saving money - for example, you decline an invitation for a trip or event where you might have met someone or experienced something important to your future? Or you skimp on something to the detriment of your health or safety? As far as a hex is concerned, I'm not sure how that would work - do you have reason to think that someone would want to interfere specifically with your intent to save money - perhaps a friend or partner who wants you to share the cost of certain extravagances? Or someone dependent on you financially? Do you have any reason to think that someone is interfering with you/wishing you ill in general - perhaps a "hex" in the sense that they want all of your endeavors to fail and are devoting energy to that goal?

(And yes, you'd probably get a much better discussion on The Unexplained - slower moving, but less performative derailing.)

😂😂 school prefect haha 😂😂

Honestly though hun, grab yourself some sage burn away all that negative energy and grab yourself a nice calming crystal like Amethyst to ward off all that stress and anger your feeling towards the contents of this thread.

Hope you feel better soon xox

Again, what has that got to do with Paganism? Were Pagans telling her she was experiencing that? Doubtful. And the thread isn’t about any of the things you mento rd5at all. No one here is scanning OP, she asked a question about her own religious practices, end of. She doesn’t want you to go along with it, she asked a specific question. How are you not understanding this?

I’m not in charge of the thread and nor are you, but you don’t seem to understand the basic principle of if you post what you want, others will do too.

OP has the right to post. You have the right to leave unpleasant comments. I have the right to respond, in kind, to those comments. So all this. ‘ThReAd PoLiCe’ stuff is your own behaviour too.

You have a surprising lack of self awareness.

Perfectly said. 👏

I wonder if they realize they are no different from some cult leader who keeps screaming, "Only I am telling the truth. You must listen to me and believe as I do, or you are wrong!"

I just wonder.....
