Did anyone see it? Northbound between Oxford and Cherwell Valley at around 1330?

traffic stopped, entrance blocked, loads of motorbikes, black SUV’s, Black range rovers all with blacked out windows, about 30 vehicles, plus a helicopter.

Wonder who it was for? I assumed Royalty but I’ve seen them before in London and on motorways and the entourage was nothing like this, no helicopter either.

JD Vance?

TheignT · 10/08/2025 16:23

I thought J D Vance as well.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 10/08/2025 16:31

Isn't Vance on holiday in the Cotswolds with his family after spending time meeting Lammy in Chevening?

GCAcademic · 10/08/2025 16:38

Yes, J D Vance is staying somewhere near Chipping Norton.

Notmyreality · 10/08/2025 16:39

It was me
Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

FatherFrosty · 10/08/2025 16:40

Is that JD or Usha?

TheSpottedZebra · 10/08/2025 16:41

He's staying in Charlbury.

Sooooo many secret service agents there, looking very easy to spot.

FatherFrosty · 10/08/2025 16:42

Royalty and prime ministers travel in tiny motorcades in comparison
2-4 motorbikes and a Range Rover / police infront sometimes one behind as well.

the use of secret for them is laughable isn’t it

MJ1980 · 10/08/2025 16:45

Why are our tax payer police resources being used on this person? Why are they not bringing their own security/using private security uk based?

menopausalmare · 10/08/2025 16:46

It was Vance. He passed through Sunbury, Ashford, Staines earlier with helicopter escorts, the full works.

Clearinguptheclutter · 10/08/2025 16:47

How bloody ridiculous

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 10/08/2025 16:48

What a twat.

Because he is (presumably) categorised as an Internationally Protected Person, and we do not allow armed private security in this country. This was at the crux of Prince Harry’s legal case against the U.K. government (he does not have that status).

Worryiswarranted · 10/08/2025 16:55

I hope he thanks them for the escort

Agree, when the late Queen was being brought down to Edinburgh, the rest of the royals who needed to get from Balmoral to Edinburgh before her sped past with barely a murmur (they either got straight onto the Aberdeen bypass as the cortege was going through the city or got past at Brechin when the cortege pulled in for lunch).
That huge procession definitely sounds like Vance! Quiet taxi from the airport would probably have been more subtle and safe (not to mention cheaper)!

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 10/08/2025 17:00

I bloody love you lot, please go up to the secret service agents and innocently ask them for directions/have they got the right time.

I also hope that JD Vance paid millions for police efforts, that’s a large overtime bill.

When Trump comes he normally uses helicopter (with escort helicopters), wonder why JDV doesn’t?

It’s beautifully done and strangely discrete isn’t it. They’ve gone before you’ve realised

FernwoodRydal · 10/08/2025 17:05

I saw Prince Charles and Camilla drive past in a city near me around 2017, and it was 2 motorbikes and 2-3 SUVs. It sounds on such a different scale!

YelloDaisy · 10/08/2025 17:06

He’s going to Scotland for some reason

Yes, I was marshalling and we just thought it was a few minibuses with police who needed to be in Edinburgh! We'd been briefed about the format of the cortege and where they would stop the traffic, but not a murmur about the other royals travelling. As it should be.

The King is at Balmoral. Maybe JDV is hoping to drop in for tea and biscuits.
