I'm home alone with my 12 year old twins as my husband is working away and not due back until tomorrow evening. He's about 6 hours away.

Over the last few days I've had a painful boil under my boob. I saw the GP today as it doubled in size overnight. There is a red circle around it. She prescribed doxycycline (2 a day) and said to phone back if it gets worse.

I've been getting more and more unwell. My left arm has started tingling, I'm sweating with cold hands and feet, the pain is indescribable and I'm exhausted. I slept for 6 hours this afternoon and I'm still utterly exhausted and all my joints hurt.

I've had to phone my father in law who is an hour away to come through to sit with the twins. I'm on hold to 111 but a 45 minute wait to call answer as a minimum they said.

I'm not sure whether just to call a taxi when FIL gets here to go straight to accident and emergency.

I'm a little freaked out at how unwell I feel.

As soon as you mentioned the white pudding supper I knew half of the UK would be totally bemused.
So glad you’re feeling better, and I’m sure the white pudding supper will be just the thing.
I am really enjoying the opportunity to type white pudding supper on MN.

@DarkSuitsSadSongs I'm 49, Glasgow born and bred, and do you know something, I've never had white pudding!! I do love black pudding and haggis though, Lol. So glad it's looking like you're on the mend 🙏🏻 And I'm also glad you went to the hospital when you did! Enjoy your chippy 🍟💐

They're very good!
So are red pudding suppers even if the one I had in Brora gave me food poisoning

I also love red pudding. It has to be the proper one that is the texture of a white pudding and not just like a spicy sausage.

We moved to another part of Scotland and we only get the spicy sausage type. Whenever we visit friends still there I get a red pudding supper.

A king rib is also a winner. I strip the thick batter off to eat last 😋

It’s so interesting how Scottish fish and chips shops have so many different options and how regional it can be. We always have a week in Scotland each year and I think this year we might buy all of the chippy options for the kids to try.

Areyouactuallyjokingme · 09/08/2025 15:43

@DarkSuitsSadSongs I do that with a king rib too 🤣 Also a battered hamburger, but for some reason not a battered sausage 🤷🏻‍♀️lol.
P.s I've never heard of a red pudding!

murasaki · 09/08/2025 15:44

Sunglasses you're feeling better, and yay for FiL, the lovely nurses and eventually your DP.

Enjoy your visit from the kids and your tea!

whatwasthatnoise · 09/08/2025 15:46

Great stuff, thanks for keeping us updated. Enjoy your supper, I hope it's a decent chipper but I guess anything will taste magic to you today, now you're feeling better. You'll feel so much better after a shower in your new pjs.
Top marks to your DH, never too old for a telling off from your dad....

Wasitabadger · 09/08/2025 16:01

Pleased to read you are on the mend. Could your DH bring in your favourite perfume or another scent you enjoy. You could spray a tissue with it to try and remove the memory of the horrible smell of abscess. I am Autistic and actually like the smell of the plastic medical tape. I have been know to ask for that when in hospital.

Haha i also do that with a king rib, also love a wee red pudding too.

hope you enjoy and are home with your family soon

LurgyMagnet · 09/08/2025 16:29

Very glad that you're feeling better, and giggling at the mental image of the nurse doing a little dance at discovering the abscess had burst. I'd suggest buying FIL some of his favourite booze or something as a thank you for being so great, both in looking after the kids, and having a quiet word with DH. I hope the kids are reassured when they see you later.

LakieLady · 09/08/2025 16:35

Really glad you're feeling better today, OP, and your DH has redeemed himself somewhat with the pj's etc.

Still think he should have left earlier though.

And your FIL sounds lovely.

ok I have to ask, what is a red pudding ?
i only know of black, white and fruit ( my favourite ) but red ?

PiggyPigalle · 09/08/2025 11:57

When I felt unwell in France, the GP sent a chauffer driven limousine for me to attend hospital. Nice of the local mayor to be there, opening the door to see me off. I did think though, that the fanfare of trumpeters at the hospital entrance may have been a little OTT!

What's your point? We all know the NHS is not up to par compared to other European countries. This posters account attests to it. First being dismissed casually and told to go home, and then having to wait hours to be attended.

Polony. It's a kind of sausage.

Get a taxi to A & E with your children and get your dad to meet you there

LaMadrilena · 09/08/2025 18:44

I'm so impressed with your DH and his thoughtful packing! I was admitted a few weeks ago and asked mine to bring in some mini bottles of gel/shampoo that were in DD's bathroom. He brought DD's stuff so my hairs smelled of Frozen and the rest of me smelled of Paw Patrol!
