Anyone around... scared

I'm home alone with my 12 year old twins as my husband is working away and not due back until tomorrow evening. He's about 6 hours away.

Over the last few days I've had a painful boil under my boob. I saw the GP today as it doubled in size overnight. There is a red circle around it. She prescribed doxycycline (2 a day) and said to phone back if it gets worse.

I've been getting more and more unwell. My left arm has started tingling, I'm sweating with cold hands and feet, the pain is indescribable and I'm exhausted. I slept for 6 hours this afternoon and I'm still utterly exhausted and all my joints hurt.

I've had to phone my father in law who is an hour away to come through to sit with the twins. I'm on hold to 111 but a 45 minute wait to call answer as a minimum they said.

I'm not sure whether just to call a taxi when FIL gets here to go straight to accident and emergency.

I'm a little freaked out at how unwell I feel.

Hope You are feeling better soon now its being sorted xx

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 09/08/2025 19:31

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne

ah Thank you. never seen it in my ( former ) local chippy, but maybe they do now or maybe not as the link suggests it may not be a Glasgow ' thing '

NorthLion · 09/08/2025 19:38

Was thinking of you today and glad to read all of the updates. Look after yourself and I‘m happy it’s close to all being sorted for you x

So glad you’re on the mend and being well looked after. Must have been feeling so dreadful.

Brefugee · 09/08/2025 20:23

have read all your updates, OP, what a relief.

Your DH stepped up too, so that is good. Hope all goes well and that everything is back to normal soon.

DarkSuitsSadSongs · 09/08/2025 20:46

I'm back in my room after seeing my babies. It was lovely seeing them but goodness am I exhausted now.

I've got my bed in the perfect position with my head and legs raised for reading my book. The nurse found me a body pillow to put under my sore boob to ease some of the pulling pain. She's coming back to put in a new cannula for my final IV antibiotics and a cup of tea. I'm going to read my new book once they've finished poking and hooking me up. I'm written up for another morphine injection tonight but I'm hoping I can get by on paracetamol.

Don’t be a hero and take the morphine if you neeed it, it won’t be there at home! If it helps you rest and sleep it will be worth it.

Byjimminy · 09/08/2025 20:52

Just caught up with thread, yay for pus! So glad you're feeling a bit better and coming out the other side now. I expect you'll sleep well tonight. And yay for dh finally putting the effort in, wonder if that was down to FIL's words with him! Would love to have a been a fly on the wall Grin

Hazey19 · 09/08/2025 20:57

Glad things seem to be a lot better and it’s also really nice to hear how lovely the doctors and nurses are. People are always so quick on here to complain about hospital staff, it’s nice to hear some positive stories for a change! X

Snailssitonwhales · 09/08/2025 20:58

Have you tried using a large muslin cloth to lift your boob up, if it wouldn't be too uncomfortable? It's a hack I saw (but haven't had to use as I am not gifted in that area) for breastfeeding with larger boobs but it might help. Or using a large bandage, you basically make like a sling, but for your boobs.

I hope you're recovery goes smoothly now, I've been following since you posted and so glad you got the urgent treatment you needed. The nurses really do sound lovely on the ward too!

itsgettingweird · 09/08/2025 21:13

boob sling sounds genius 🤗

So glad you go to see you twins and are back comfy and being looked after well.

Take the morphine and enjoy a blissful sleep. Abscesses do make you tired and recovery will be a long road.

nunsflipflop · 09/08/2025 21:21

I’m so glad for you that it erupted and you are feeling a little brighter. Take it slowly, you don’t need to be a hero. If you need the morphine, take it. They may well discharge you with heavy duty painkillers anyway.

I hope you are soon at home and healing

Sounds like FIL has put a good rocket up ds arse and he’s had the good grace to realise he fell short. we all do at times but great he’s stepped up now.

Really hope you manage to keep draining spontaneously (things you never thought you’d say 🤣).

Absesses are the pits. I’ve had a few anal ones requiring surgery and my god the pain until they burst or are drained 🫣

My partner had a series of those -was diagnosed with Crohns about fifteen years later.

Horrible things.

reversegear · 09/08/2025 21:47

Oh what a thread OP you sound alike an utter trooper and the donation to the ward was such a lovely gesture. I’m so glad you are getting good care.

Comtesse · 09/08/2025 21:50

Keep trucking - you’ll be back home soon!

Middlemarch123 · 09/08/2025 21:50

Morphine got me through kidney stones that had caused bladder bleeding OP, don’t be brave, take it. And when you get home try to take codeine, they might prescribe it. Paracetamol won’t be effective my love, I went home on codeine, then
over the counter co-codamol, before dropping to paracetamol.

Your nurse sounds like a diamond, bless her (and you of course). Enjoy your book. X

Cheeseandquackers21 · 09/08/2025 21:52

Glad you're on the mend. Enjoy your book and rest before home tomorrow.

@DarkSuitsSadSongs if you go the codeine route them massively hike your fibre and liquid intake as it can be quite constipating. If you hike your fibre by adding fresh fruit and salady stuff its fine, but if you do it with brown or wholemeal cereals or similar then they will go to cement without loads of added liquid (Ex NHS clinician)

Have the morphine!

Hospitals are well-known nowadays for being very stingy with analgesia.

They clearly know you need morphine, because it wouldn't be written up otherwise.

nunsflipflop · 08/08/2025 23:25

I really feel for you. I have a condition which means I have these infections a lot. Currently on holiday with a beast in my vulva that I’m desperately trying to ignore.

Have you had these before?
Are they around your breasts, armpits, bum and genitals and thighs?

If so, once this is over you need a referral to a dermatologist that specialises in Hidradenitis Supprativa. There is no cure but there are several treatments they can try.

Gentle hugs for you OP

My ex had this and the weight loss drug montjaro cured it. He was in agony for well over 28 months when obese but now he's slimmer the pockets no longer form. Look up GLp1 receptors.

HotTiredDog · 09/08/2025 22:18

@DarkSuitsSadSongs Like many, I’ve been following your progress since your first post - you’ve been tremendously brave & calm in really testing circumstances. I’m so, so glad that you have been looked after so well and are recovering now. Your DFiL was a hero & it seems that he’s passed some great traits down to his son, too Smile

(I can’t help but wonder what you would have done if it’d burst at home - probably filling the house with diffusers & fresheners for ever - and called an ambulance, I guess!)

Saz12 · 09/08/2025 22:23

You had my admiration & sympathy right up until the white pudding. They are totally revolting, in every context. Even as part of a morning after breakfast with diet irn bru.

meercat23 · 09/08/2025 22:33

OK , now that you are sounding better I have to ask, are white puddings the same as the Mealie Puddings I know from Aberdeenshire?

Middlemarch123 · 09/08/2025 22:36

Yes, totally agree, I drank loads of filtered water and took senna based laxatives to prevent constipation.

Middlemarch123 · 09/08/2025 22:38

Sorry meant to link @DarkSuitsSadSongs post in my post above, about codeine causing constipation.
