Anyone around... scared

I'm home alone with my 12 year old twins as my husband is working away and not due back until tomorrow evening. He's about 6 hours away.

Over the last few days I've had a painful boil under my boob. I saw the GP today as it doubled in size overnight. There is a red circle around it. She prescribed doxycycline (2 a day) and said to phone back if it gets worse.

I've been getting more and more unwell. My left arm has started tingling, I'm sweating with cold hands and feet, the pain is indescribable and I'm exhausted. I slept for 6 hours this afternoon and I'm still utterly exhausted and all my joints hurt.

I've had to phone my father in law who is an hour away to come through to sit with the twins. I'm on hold to 111 but a 45 minute wait to call answer as a minimum they said.

I'm not sure whether just to call a taxi when FIL gets here to go straight to accident and emergency.

I'm a little freaked out at how unwell I feel.

@DarkSuitsSadSongsHow are you doing?

I'm doing so much better. The abscess gives a slight sting now and then and is so itchy. The nurse assured me yesterday that this is a very good sign.

As an aside the surgery had received the report from the breast clinic. On there it said that the cause of my repeated abscesses was because I smoke.

I do not smoke. And unless you count the experimental drag (which made me cough until I vomited) 30 years ago, I have never smoked. So I guess he mixed me up?! She's going to get the GP to clarify with them (all other details are correct).

Definitely get than amended! Will they check for HS, nutritional deficiencies and skin colonies? I’d definitely push for some tests.

so glad things are improving!!

Glad to hear you are on the mend!

Inyournewdress · 17/08/2025 00:41

That’s a significant error! So glad things are looking up though.

Yetmorewifework · 17/08/2025 06:58

I'm glad you are feeling betterish and things are moving in the right direction.
That's a huge error to make about you being a smoker! Where on earth did they get that from? It sounds as though they've used someone else's letter and amended it but not sufficiently. Check that your NHS records don't say somewhere that you are a smoker.
More worrying is that they've written you off as essentially self-inflicting the abscesses. Lots of pushback needed from your GP to insist that they get to the bottom of it.

TheLivelyViper · 17/08/2025 07:19

Yes double check the error it's quite a strange one - someone may have ticked the wrong box on any initial form inside the hospital. I have a diagnosis of asthma in 1990, when I was far from even born then. Definitely chase up the consultant secretary and records in the hospital to change it, it may take a while to convince them you don't smoke as they'll think they got it right.

anyolddinosaur · 17/08/2025 07:32

Complain, that consultant sounds as though he should no longer be working. The combination of outdated treatment and saying you are a smoker means you want to be referred to someone else for a proper investigation.

@DarkSuitsSadSongshow are you doing, OP? Been following your story.
