I'm going to the fish and chips shop. What will you have?

So much choice today but I'll keep it simple and traditional: fish, chips, scraps, salt and vinegar. There's two shops I frequent - never known if it's cod or haddock.

Pea fritter, chips, scraps and gravy please! Plenty of salt and vinegar and a can of Dandelion and Burdock.

I miss living up North....they don't do scraps OR gravy at my local chippie.

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 04/07/2025 17:52

Steak and kidney pudding, chips, peas and gravy thanks 😋

Didntask · 04/07/2025 17:53

Rock and chips with a saveloy on the side please. Plenty of salt and vinegar.

MsNevermore · 04/07/2025 17:53

A cheap, shitty, microwaved, beef and onion pukka pie and chips.
Cut the top off the pie, dip the chips in the filling.
And I’ll neee a side of curry sauce for dipping once I’ve run out of pie filling.

(I’m disgusting, I know……)

anotherwordforit · 04/07/2025 17:54

Battered sausage, chips and a whole tub of curry sauce to myself

Zippedydodah · 04/07/2025 17:54

Plaice and a few chips please with plenty of salt and vinegar 😋

Lucillebatwings · 04/07/2025 17:55

Hatty65 · 04/07/2025 17:50

Scraps are the random bits of batter they fish out of the oil, @Lucillebatwings

So you get bits of crispy batter scattered on top of your chips if you ask for 'scraps'.

Thank you! Not a Scottish thing then!!

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 04/07/2025 17:55

Haven't been to one for many years - none within 5 miles.
Do they still do skate & rock?

milski · 04/07/2025 17:55

Battered pineapple ring, battered mushrooms, battered sausage, chips and mush peas pls. Loads of salt and vinegar too!

U53rn8m3ch8ng3 · 04/07/2025 17:57

I would have a chip butty with mushy peas. My favourite. Loads of butter in the butty.

HOWEVER, your title has made me realise that I say 'we're going to have fish and chipS for tea'. But I would say 'I'm going to the fish and chip shop' (no S)

Weird.

Westfacing · 04/07/2025 17:58

There are some heathens on here

Surprised no one has yet asked for a deep-fried meat & potato pie in a barmcake.

I'd like to add a small pot of curry sauce to my order to dip the odd chip in, you understand... not to put on the same plate as the food in case it touches the mushy peas!

They really shouldn’t. Neither are sustainable really

Tut.
Our chippie names the trawler that brought the fish in🤣
Pensioners fish and chips, scraps, salt and vinegar.
( portions are huge).
I provide my own white, sliced, buttered bread for chip butties😁

ButterCrackers · 04/07/2025 17:59

Mushy peas please

EveryDayisFriday · 04/07/2025 17:59

Small portion of chips and gravy. I'd have a steak pudding too if I was hungrier.

dayatthepark · 04/07/2025 18:00

If you're going to the one in Marchmont, then their mushroom fritter and chips please. If not, a battered sausage and chips. Thanks!

Battered pineapple ring

I think you just made that up! And since when did chippies have mushrooms?

must be Scotland or somewhere Northern

MaidOfSteel · 04/07/2025 18:02

A bag of scraps, please! I’d happily not bother with anything else. I love the scraps! Loads of salt & vinegar and I’m a happy bunny.

LincolnshireYellowBelly · 04/07/2025 18:03

What part of the country do you live in to get scraps?
I would get them when I was in Lincolnshire, but it’s not a thing in the north-west or south-east (both places I moved to).
cod, chips and scraps sounds good to me. Salt, no vinegar though

UptobedNOW · 04/07/2025 18:04

Haddock, chips, wally and curry sauce please!

JollyRoseBiscuit · 04/07/2025 18:05

IchiNiSanShiGo · 04/07/2025 17:34

Rissole, chips, curry sauce, salt & vinegar, and a can of dandelion & burdock please.

Nothing better than a D&B with a fish shop

Blondebrownorred · 04/07/2025 18:06

I'm now going too. I'm having plaice and chips with gravy.

Madcats · 04/07/2025 18:06

Humour me (I’ve never lived north of the M4, except for holidays and I am currently in Northumberland).

Does “gravy” usually taste like “Bisto gravy”?

I’m more of a cod (shared) large cod* & chips, curry sauce and peas with a side of tartare. Can’t be doing with malt vinegar (which I have heard tends not be be vinegar these day), but I’ll add my own salt, thanks.

  • seems to be “skin on” south of the M4 but had a decent skinless F&C in Tynemouth earlier this week.

LadyWiddiothethird · 04/07/2025 18:07
