Just to add no small boats have ever landed on Irish shores and yet in Moygashel, a predominantly Protestant area, to celebrate the 12 July, there was a burning of a boat with dark skinned mannequins inside alongside a sign saying Stop The Boats. This is part of the UK. How on earth is that acceptable?

Whatever you do don't look at the replies to the news reports from Irish papers on Facebook. Dear God they are depressing.

X is just as bad @cardibach Shocking.

BIossomtoes · 11/07/2025 10:32

Apparently the bonfire was “artistic protest”.

The Rest Is History have just concluded a massive 6-part series on the Irish civil war.

When you've heard it, you realise how ignorant we are of our own history. And crucially why it matters.

I couldn't believe my eyes.

Maureen O'Hara famously refused to say she was British when applying for US citizenship. She won the long run battle to be recognised as Irish, she wasn't giving in. @SerendipityJane

The Daily Mail has lost an Ipso complaint on accuracy. It was not accurate but the Mail said it did not think the Telegraph would run an inaccurate story so prominently on page 1

It's good to know that 'I didn't think the other paper were also xenophobic racist liars' isn't a legal defence. Yet.

Spandauer · 11/07/2025 11:39

I wasn't aware until now of the bonfire tradition. But the one in Moygashel...Horrific!

Moygashel Bonfire Committee has said that the bonfire "topper" should not be seen as "racist, threatening or offensive" and it is "expressing our disgust at the ongoing crisis that is illegal immigration".

Yeah, right. And I'm the Queen of fucking Sheba.

Thames Water that shit, literally, company that is heading to doom.

In, out, shake it all about: that's what it's all about. For thread title which shouldn't be picked.

Unite are also considering their relationship with the Labour Party. Cue an alignment with the new Corbyn Sultana party.

Can anyone explain why Thames Water are commissioning reports like that in the first place? Is that to do with knowing numbers for water supply or something? It seems a really odd activity for a company that surely has other problems.

What’s all this about then? Seems an odd reaction by the union.

Plot twist: Angela Rayner resigned her Unite membership several months ago, I understand, so cannot be suspended.

Labour MPs and councillors have to align with a union to be selected. They don't necessarily have to be members but they can get endorsements.

Sadly, the councils case wasn't helped after they had to admit they totally and utterly lied that no one would have their pay cut (which is what is at the heart of all this).

Meanwhile with no recycling of any description, it's quite a retro feel. Everything (and I mean everything) is going in the one true bin. Weirdly Nigel Farage hasn't deigned to visit us (I did invite him) to champion our non-woke bin collections.

One one bin. Once a week. Takes everything. Surely that's the plot of a Reform-themed porno ?

DuncinToffee · 11/07/2025 13:41

😂@SerendipityJane or maybe a sick emoji is more appropriate
