Quote all you like out of context @SerendipityJane, feel free. However it's obviously not what was meant.

It was a comment and it reflected my views. Your comment still stands for all to see it's original context.

It's getting hot again ...

There’s not an election for Westminster for 4 years, so no need to overthink it yet. The Senedd elections are looming a bit more quickly - I’m beginning to think Labour has been in power too long here (I don’t think it’s good for anyone to be in power too long), plus I’m indy curious, so I may go Plaid.

placemats · 24/06/2025 18:36

How would you feel having a Reform led government in the Senedd?

MaybeNotBob · 24/06/2025 18:44

I’m hoping that the Welsh aren’t that stupid. But, yes, I’d vote pretty much anything if it would keep them out. Given where I live it isn’t going to be an issue I don’t think (lovely little town just outside Cardiff - which probably gives it away)

Does it rhyme with laugh?

I don’t think so but it could be an accent thing. If doesn’t end in a ‘Ff’ sound

From what I have hopefully correctly understood about our new voting system it will be impossible for Reform to get a majority unless they garner more than 45% of the vote. Which ain't going to happen. And no-one will enter into a coalition with them.

Almost all my Labour voting friends have said they will vote Plaid next year. I think there will a Plaid-Labour coalition.

Totally understand. My wonderful late ex MIL always voted Plaid but only because late ex wonderful FIL always voted Labour. Despite divorce, I've kept my Welsh surname. Not a lot to choose from xx

That’s what I’m hoping for.

That's a no then.....

Remember, Tories still think the bill doesn't go far enough. Cowards way out by setting these conditions

Who the blooming heck does she think she is?

I’ve taken the unprecedented step of hiding a thread - I’ll normally argue in until one fills. It’s the disguised private school one that @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats was complaining about. The hyperbole was intense.

I have seen that one, hope Grumpy is alright. It's a nasty one.

That is the first intelligent thing Kemi Badenoch has done. Now I am not a fan of hers, but this is the first proper effort to really hurt Starmer and the Labour Party which is likely to stick.

Yes it will do a lot of damage, Starmer will have to reject it publicly, but this is a bit clever, at a point where the Labour majority is unravelling.

I'm absolutely fine - and thanks for asking. I'm old and ugly enough not to worry too much about offensive randos on the internet. But I did find the level of toxicity shocking. I try to debate politely and have plenty of friends with wildly different world views to me - but that thread just resorted to name calling and baseless accusations. Most unimpressed 🤣

placemats · 24/06/2025 19:49

"a bit clever' is certainly pushing the envelope when it comes to Badenoch @bombastix

Keep your powder dry and never show your hand are phrases that come to mind. However she's still getting better 😁

bombastix · 24/06/2025 19:53

Someone smart predicted that the Labour Party would unravel in government, this may be it. It’s not tenable for a PM to lose his majority. Badenoch is pushing at that angle; I’m no Tory, but this is a cleverer thing than most she has done.

That said, Labour give her the chance.

placemats · 24/06/2025 19:58

Let's not forget that Badenoch has people behind her on the opposition benches who will never support her. And if anything, she'll be the first leader to be usurped.

bombastix · 24/06/2025 20:03

Well the thing is, if the Labour Party stabs itself, and it seems to be about to do that, her task is a lot easier.

I think it is a smart thing she is doing. Puts her back influencing things, and showing her potential power. Good for her and the Conservatives.

Karistyleaftea · 24/06/2025 20:10

It is not a good idea to get into the horrible realm of U.K. domestic politics unravelling and replaying the disgraceful Tory times of Johnson, Truss et al by applauding Kemi Badenoch’s comments at this time.

We had no real Government for many of the Cons years due to their squabbles. It was exceedingly tiresome.
This is a serious time just now and I would not want anyone other than Sir Keir at the helm.
One year on and some memories appear to be very short.
In my opinion.

bombastix · 24/06/2025 20:12

I’m not applauding them. I’m pointing out that Badenoch has done something other than put her foot in her mouth, and it’s not good news for the Labour Party.
