Didn't get chance to read that, earlier. Looks like they had to intervene because it was clear it wouldn't have got very far without capsizing.

Odd how the reporter just happened to be there, though.

The implication being that in what - 20 years of this ? - this is the only boat French police have ever seen that "wasn't likely to make it." 🤔

Tirez les autre un as Private Eye might say

Yes 👍. Somewhat of a bittersweet day though. My late mum's home has been sold and the new owners moved in yesterday. It was a sad and poignant moment as she was the longest living resident in her close and had lived there for 42 years.

Those moments when we realise time does still move on can be very tough 💐

Perhaps we might start getting some better quality fruit n veg now?

Pretty shocked at how poor our offerings are after being in France.

Seeing as it's a year of u turns, now is the time to join the Customs Union with the EU. It's our only hope. (Obi-Wan Kenobi)

Yes. Given that it's now clear policies can be reversed, why not go the whole hog and rejoin the customs union and use that extra (and unbudgeted for) cash to fill the holes that seem to keep appearing in plans.

Alexandra2001 · 05/07/2025 10:46

Maybe they could ask Michelle Mone for a donation?

UK needs CU and SM, we might not get it but as you say it really is our only hope.

The UK being part of IRIS is yet another Brexit loss.

How people think Farage is the answer is a complete mystery, can't they see that he drove Brexit and that Brexit is wrecking the UK ??

It's a lot of memories to say goodbye to.

It was a little more bittersweet for DH because the area he grew up in had changed beyond all recognition from a smart new town full of hope to the sort of place that you spot on Police Interceptors. His parents' house became yet another rental.

Placemats Flowers That’s tough. I think with death until you experience it so close to home you don’t ever realise how much these things hit you until they happen.

Bittersweet is exactly the right word for this situation. Its a hard task and another loss. Hope you are doing ok placemats.

YES.
If we want more money then yes, this.

The only reason we aren't actively pursuing this stuff is because it hurts too many feelings. There is no economic argument against it. Its all based in emotion and hurt pride.

Which is funny* because the hurt is being felt by all the people that frown upon hurt feelz.

  • not funny, fucking stupid.

What a Prince of a man.

PandoraSocks · 05/07/2025 13:51

@PickAChew I hope you and your DH are OK.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 05/07/2025 14:09

Was just checking in to say Reform are now 4 but see duncintoffee beat me to it.
IT has been quite a week this week. Matt Hancock is probably very relieved to have distractions from his appearance at the Covid inquiry! 🙄

PickAChew · 05/07/2025 14:15

Thank you @PandoraSocks though I think wires have become crossed in my discussion with @placemats -

MIL left us (thankfully for her because the isolation would have been torture for her) just before the pandemic. I will say that it's been more difficult for DH than he would care to admit. He doesn't do feelings and we've had some difficult times, particularly around Christmas where he's behaved quite oddly but not wanted to acknowledge it.

Sorry, I really did get my wires crossed, but still sympathies to you. Men are sometimes far too good at bottling things up and their feelings then come out in strange ways.

@placemats it is a hard thing letting go of the family home, so hope you are OK too!

pointythings · 05/07/2025 14:34

@placemats I felt the same when my mum's house was sold after she died. I grew up there. But I drove past a few years ago and was pleased to see it looking spruced up and loved again. My mum wasn't coping with it at all in her final years.

dontcallmelen · 05/07/2025 14:41

Oh that’s a tough on you all pickachew & sadly some men do have real difficulties in dealing with & expressing grief it can be a torturous process 💐
