I mean, she could try it @Piggywaspushed , but much as I’m a bit disappointed with them they haven’t broken any election pledges…

I bet he was crowing about this one, though.

Reform claims first win on Tyneside ahead of defining 2026 elections

https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/reform-claims-first-win-tyneside-31986513#ICID=Android_ChronicleNewsApp_AppShare

I wonder how many articles we'll get on social media and newspapers about how well Reform run councils are doing a year on from winning next year?

SerendipityJane · 04/07/2025 14:42

Piggywaspushed · 04/07/2025 12:16

Might she argue the party abandoned her and her constituents, rather than the other way round? I think many of her Coventry South voters would agree with her.

It's irrelevant, really.

When you stand under a parties banner, you implicitly accept that you will take on their manifesto moving forwards.

If you can't stomach that, then by all means go with your conscience. But why should you get all of that electoral spending for free ?

Reform starting to remove books from libraries. Books taken off shelves in Kent.

What books are they removing?

Piggywaspushed · 04/07/2025 15:41

Can I direct you to look at BBC website? Sorry, I know that's normally not cool on MN but I might set a klaxon off. All will become apparent.

BIossomtoes · 04/07/2025 15:45

Ffs. They think they’re the bloody Roundheads.

DuncinToffee · 04/07/2025 15:53

FFS BBC, really Hmm

Macron's state visit starts Tuesday. More deals on immigration will be announced. Not sure if live footage is part of it.

I think a lot of Kent residents will be surprised to know they still had libraries.

Maybe Reform could have waited till winter and burned them ?

Burning the residents of a county is usually frowned upon...

cardibach · 04/07/2025 16:34

But do Reform know that? Or care? Seems quite on-brand.

True that ...

DuncinToffee · 04/07/2025 16:48

It's a weird story, chances he placed the book(s) there himself?

When I was at 6th form, I was surprised the library (which I haunted for Melody Maker, NME and Sounds) carried "Socialist Worker"

"We don't" said the librarian "Rakesh brings them in 😀"

Rakesh was the upper 6ths answer to Derek Hatton, in Harrow ...

His argument was they did carry the Daily Telegraph ...

Fair enough argument to me!

Never mind old fashioned common sense, it looks like the council leader has been indulging in some old fashioned shit stirring, just for the likez, no doubt.

SerendipityJane · 04/07/2025 14:56

Didn't get chance to read that, earlier. Looks like they had to intervene because it was clear it wouldn't have got very far without capsizing.

Odd how the reporter just happened to be there, though.

placemats · 04/07/2025 22:42

It's Independence Day from the tyranny of 14 years of absolute shite.

Long live the Labour Party.
🎉🌹

placemats · 04/07/2025 22:45

Yes 👍. Somewhat of a bittersweet day though. My late mum's home has been sold and the new owners moved in yesterday. It was a sad and poignant moment as she was the longest living resident in her close and had lived there for 42 years.

BIossomtoes · 05/07/2025 09:03

I remember that @placemats. It helped for me that a young family moved in to my parents’ house and it has become a much loved family home.
