Ah well, you don't have to agree with ther to show sympathy.

The knives have been out for her from day 1.

What did Badenoch say about Reeves please, Duncin?

I think if I were Starmer I would be using the anniversary of the GE to do a reshuffle.

It's not a dig. But the absence of thoughts of wheelchairs in there highlights how even on these threads it's easy to revert to ableism.

Just in case anyone doubts - I am very much of the view that it if isn't mentioned, it isn't considered.

It's bad enough having to use a wheelchair in the first place without having some random cyclist tell you to fuck off as they shave your wheels going past on the "mixed use" footpath.

Well I'm just using my own experience, here, as a slightly creaky woman with slightly woolly hearing at certain pitches with a son (a strong and very bouncy adult) with severe learning difficulties and zero road sense. They're a nightmare for anyone with any physical or intellectual challenges. Let's not get started on the one I've used with nice smooth tarmac on the cycle side and broken and wonky concrete paving slabs on the pedestrian side.

bombastix · 02/07/2025 12:46

Fair enough. I did not like sexism towards her and said give her a chance.

She has had that chance, and has been unable to make it good. The Chancellor drives the management and financing of domestic spending. She has failed. Some of it is her fault, some of it is circumstances.

countrygirl99 · 02/07/2025 12:51

TBH shared paths like that are a nightmare for cyclists too. It's a long time since I cycled to work but many was the time I'd get sworn at by a group of pedestrians spread across both sides if I tinged my bell on approach and I was a pootling cyclist on a bike with a basket on the front not a speedy one. And any street furniture is usually in the middle of the cycle lane as it's on the traffic side.

Reeves crying during PMQs. I really think that someone should have rethink before it gets much worse.

placemats · 02/07/2025 12:52

Badenoch described Reeves as looking absolutely miserable. From a leader who has no clue about the misery within her own party and doesn't want to know.

Starmer had a good performance. The u turns show a maturity and a willingness to listen. It's amazing the absolute shite coming out of the papers today - Badenoch also quoted the papers - obviously she has advisers but it's also clear she fails to listen.

PandoraSocks · 02/07/2025 12:52

Bloody hell. I just watched a clip of Reeves at PMQs. She looks awful. There are suggestions she was crying.

I hope someone is looking out for her.

placemats · 02/07/2025 12:54

She was crying at the remark Badenoch made. Wiping tears 😔

ilovesooty · 02/07/2025 12:55

Badenoch mocking her? I don't know how the sainted Kemi sleeps at night at all. 😡

bombastix · 02/07/2025 12:56

I’m sorry but apparently Reeves was batting for complete cuts to the end. She has lost the confidence of her party, and it looks like Starmer will not protect her because the cost is too great.

She is politically naive

PandoraSocks · 02/07/2025 12:58

I think Starmer should replace Reeves now, for her own good and ours.

I agree, but I don't like seeing someone so close to a breakdown.

placemats · 02/07/2025 13:01

That'll work well with the rabble and rag papers - Miserable Rachel from accounts sent packing.

(Because she didn't smile and didn't concede her brief)

bombastix · 02/07/2025 13:04

Her name is mud with the Labour Party, and she’s been told by a large majority of her colleagues that she has to raise tax or leave. Why sugar coat it? Both sides knew the costs here

PandoraSocks · 02/07/2025 13:05

From the Guardian:

"PMQs has now ended. The PA news agency reports that Labour minister Ellie Reeves appeared to be holding her sister’s hand as she left the chamber on Wednesday, after chancellor Rachel Reeves appeared to be crying during PMQs"

This is horrible.

BIossomtoes · 02/07/2025 13:05

This is truly horrible. That poor woman, the knives have been out for from day one. She must be in hell to get to the point of being in tears in public.

BIWI · 02/07/2025 13:07

It would be better (for Keir) if she resigned, rather than have to be fired, I think.

I think her position is untenable now, which I do think is a shame. I wanted her to do well Sad

bombastix · 02/07/2025 13:07

Come on, can we get real? Politics is very tough. What did Labour MPs think would happen if they rejected this bill? Reeves has no money to spend. She must now raise tax. They told her by their actions.

I know I said I wouldn’t post for a while but my heart goes out to Rachel Reeves. I don’t like her or her policies but serving the country should not take this mental toll.

dontcallmelen · 02/07/2025 13:10

It’s horrible I don’t like seeing anyone that upset, I dunno it’s all seems such a mess.

Well perhaps that is what will happen. Her colleagues have pretty much rejected all her policy cuts, so yes, it is a clear message, whatever backing she had in Cabinet.

BIossomtoes · 02/07/2025 13:13

Yes @bombastix, politics is tough but politicians are still human. I don’t think she’s been a particularly effective chancellor but nobody deserves this. I expect to hear she’s resigned very soon.

tobee · 02/07/2025 13:13

Could be especially as Ellie Reeves was seen holding her hand

I wonder if this is setting the stage for her to resign for personal reasons.
