I hope so.
Nobody wants a rehashed version of the Tories.
Not even the Tories want to be in power (for all those sad faced unemployed exMPs I am certain the front bench breathed a sigh of relief last July).

DuncinToffee · 02/07/2025 10:00

Yes, stop chasing the ConForm vote.

What a mess the whole thing has become. I keep shouting (in my head, obviously, I’m not mad!) KIER, BE LABOUR!

I wonder if this is going to be his wake-up call?

I don't know, I hope so.

Meanwhile lots of frothing on MN that this is the end for Starmer/Labour. It must be hard being so permanently angry that Labour is in charge.

I am very VERY pissed off with Labour, but one shambolic, ill- thought out bill does not end a government or PM.

bombastix · 02/07/2025 08:45

Well it’s taxes up for Autumn, and I guess asset or wealth tax.

Which is what Labour should have been brave enough to put in its manifesto and implement last budget.

Notonthestairs · 02/07/2025 10:06

In fairness to the frothy posters calling for another GE - the Conservatives rolled out GEs as often as Johnson went on holiday.
Voters have got used to a 2 year cycle.
But they'll just have to ride their disappointment for a few more years.

DuncinToffee · 02/07/2025 10:16

Have they started another petition yet or are they all leaving the country?

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 02/07/2025 10:25

Starting a petition from Dubai.

PandoraSocks · 02/07/2025 10:26

Reformites are busy this morning. As well as hoping for the imminent downfall of Starmer and co. they are back to the old favourite: small boats.

Apologies for spelling Keir wrongly! (Obviously too angry)

Twelve of England’s regional mayors back plan for ‘national active travel network’

Exclusive: Unprecedented move to focus initially on helping children to walk, cycle or scoot to school safely

It's good to see cross party support but can they please push for alternatives to turning foot paths into foot and cycle paths. Some cyclists take it as an invitation to go as fast as they could on a clear road which makes them pretty hairy for pedestrians. Even on my own, I don't always hear them behind me. With DS2, I have to police him constantly to make sure he's on the right side of the line. Or at least what I think is the right side as they're not always well marked.

Well they kind of did. No taxes on “working people”.

Reeves is a disaster zone; she is driving these cuts and the attitude to hang on to the last possible minute on this bill is attributed to her. Then the PM carries the can for that. I know she has a tough job, but I think that she has not shown why she should have it, or keep it. I assume her name is mud in the parliamentary party.

It's not a dig. But the absence of thoughts of wheelchairs in there highlights how even on these threads it's easy to revert to ableism.

Just in case anyone doubts - I am very much of the view that it if isn't mentioned, it isn't considered.

It's bad enough having to use a wheelchair in the first place without having some random cyclist tell you to fuck off as they shave your wheels going past on the "mixed use" footpath.

BIossomtoes · 02/07/2025 12:02

It’s even worse when the cyclepath ends several hundred yards away and you still run the risk of being mown down by a cyclist as you step out of your front door.

BIossomtoes · 02/07/2025 12:05

What an old sourpuss McDonnell is. Still stinging from not being chancellor.

How come Gordon Brown was able to not only hit the ground running, but make a difference.

He's the last chancellor that I can actually remember being a chancellor. I had to be reminded that Rishi Sunak was chancellor recently.

bombastix · 02/07/2025 12:13

Brown inherited a growing economy and was fairly a domestic policy whizz. Very practical guy (still doing rather amazing charitable work on child poverty even now).

Reeves, sorry, she doesn’t have what it takes to manage the political elements of the job. Nobody is a popular Chancellor but you need great nous to survive it.

More Dennis Healy, I feel.

DuncinToffee · 02/07/2025 12:25

I feel sorry for Rachel Reeves, she looks absolutely terrible. She doesn't deserve the hatred she is getting.

It says a lot about how bad Kemi Badenoch is that she was incredibly lame still at PMQs.

But let’s not kid ourselves. Starmer sounded absolutely rattled by his own party. They can do him in. It is not good

DuncinToffee · 02/07/2025 12:32

Badenoch is actually mocking Reeves for her appearance, Angry

Well isn’t she the cause of this mess? What does she think happens? Honestly find someone with the courage, she does not have it

DuncinToffee · 02/07/2025 12:35

A PM held responsible by his MP's, I don't have a problem with that. He should be rattled by it.

OP posts:
bombastix · 02/07/2025 12:38

Well the way it was done and engineered was very bad. And if Starmer was responsible for that then, well he is chastened. But I think the story is the Chancellor holding out for the last nail, and humiliating her boss. I would not keep her.

Ah well, you don't have to agree with ther to show sympathy.

The knives have been out for her from day 1.
