‘Personal reasons’ - setting the scene for a resignation with dignity?

the80sweregreat · 02/07/2025 13:15

I’ve a feeling she’ll resign soon.
The pressure on her will be immense now .

Great minds, and all that! Grin

Almost a year since we were celebrating on GE night and now we have this.

It is sad, but frustrating as it was avoidable.

BIossomtoes · 02/07/2025 13:22

I’m looking on the bright side - just call me Pollyanna - this week has been a shitshow, nobody would deny that but it does provide an opportunity for a reset. A new chancellor would be able to say that they tried as hard as they could to keep their promises on tax but it’s proved impossible. They can do some research on what tax rises would be most palatable and go with those. Whatever they chose would be criticised so it would be good if they could say public opinion was behind them.

DuncinToffee · 02/07/2025 13:22

TBF nobody on here thought it was going to be plain sailing. Poisoned chalice and that.

I don't really want to think about what another 5 years of Tory would have done to the country.

WTF

After a Treasury spokesperson says Rachel Reeves was upset at PMQs due to a personal matter, Kemi Badenoch's spokesman tells journalists that "something strange is going on" and insists the Chancellor immediately disclose what is happening in her personal life

Well it didn't take long for a thread to appear about Rachel Reeves crying at PMQs. And good grief there are some nasty feckers on MN.

I don't like what Labour have done about this whole welfare reform and nor was I impressed with the WFA debacle. But the lack of compassion shown by some people is quite frankly disgusting.

Kemi Badenoch's spokesperson should STFU. Rachel Reeves looked so upset. Dreadful stuff.

They just seem to be not good * on the optics. That doesn't mean they have to bullshitters. But it's not very sophisticated politics.

  • really bad on the optics

That thread is an absolute disgrace. All the usual suspects putting the boot in and falling over themselves to pile on. I despair of the human race sometimes.

Get politics out of the gutter! It's been dragged there by the likes of Bris Johnson's cabal, and Farage and MAGA.

How foul of them.

Karistyleaftea · 02/07/2025 14:10

Kemi Badenoch is despicable.
In my opinion.
Also, if it is a personal matter , Keir Srarmer will be the kindest, most truly supportive person in there with her and will be able to separate the political from the personal..
I note that she is working out of Downing street this afternoo

Karistyleaftea · 02/07/2025 14:11

Typo Keir Starmer

LlttledrummergirI · 02/07/2025 14:15

Badenoch and her spokesman can fuck off.

This shows they are in it for themselves and couldn't give a stuff about the country.
Whether you agree with colleagues or not, you don't kick them when they are down. Utterly shamefully and despicable behaviour from them.

The rabble don't take long in showing their true colours. The link is to an ongoing investigation so no discussion please.

Badenoch is a shit stirrer and her remarks today at PMQs should be looked into. Disgraceful.

bombastix · 02/07/2025 14:30

Whatever the reason, Kemi Badenoch may be distasteful and opportunistic but let’s be clear; the reason Reeves is likely in tears is not because of the Conservative Party, is it? It is because she’s been given the order of the boot by her own party.

Don’t you think the kicking was done by her own party? I do not like Badenoch but let’s face it she is an observer to this mess, not an instigator

You don't know why she is so upset, if she has been sacked, she wouldn't be in the commons surely?

If Labour are saying a "Personal Matter" but its about her job... then they will look ridiculous.

The changes to welfare were in the manifesto, it was a Labour party decision to fix it or try too.

The cabinet signed off the policy.... its not on Reeves or Kendal, if its screwed up, its down to Starmer... as leader & PM.

People have ago at Reeves and yes WFA yes a total own goal but again it was a cabinet decision, but the NI rises have given the NHS a huge financial boost and if people don't want that tax rise... which ones do they want? or should the NHS stay as it was?

Badenoch is a nasty spiteful person, there was no need to mock esp as she doesn't know what is going on in her life.

Bit rich from a Party whose ex leader won't disclose how many children he has fathered

DuncinToffee · 02/07/2025 14:49

There was no need to highlight Reeves' distress.
