I also am a Celtic fan. I'm quite partial to Rod really.

😀 I quite like him but DH ignores all comments about him when he goes to Celtic Park. Pop people should keep their political views quiet. Nobody wants to know.

Evenstar · 27/06/2025 21:22

Belated cat tax with my unimpressed Bengal cross, he certainly wouldn’t give Farage a chance!

A lot of songs would not have been written if 'pop' people kept their political views quiet.

I’m sure that only applies to the songs you approve of. 🤣

It applies to all politically based songs. You’re really bloody argumentative tonight @derxa.

Piggywaspushed · 27/06/2025 21:44

I don't think there are any right wing pop songs.

I’ve had a horrible week. We need to vaccinate 320 sheep against blue tongue this week I’m sure Keir or the Environment secretary have never heard of it.

BIWI · 27/06/2025 21:48

I’m sure Keir or the Environment secretary have never heard of it

Why would you feel the need to say that? Was that really necessary?

BIWI · 27/06/2025 21:50

Oh, in which case I’ll have a good old giggle at the hard work you have to do with your sheep needing to be vaccinated then, shall I? Hmm

PickAChew · 27/06/2025 21:51

Ooh. Are we playing a game of "things that Keir has never heard of?"

My turn! I made a toile for a waistcoat, today. I bet Keir has never done that before.

Blimey. Did I hit a nerve or something?

My Glaswegian DH is also a Celtic fan, for what it's worth.

Actually I think Rod is usually a Tory, isn't he?

I remember him saying that he and his dad didn't bother to cast their votes for Labour in 1970 because they thought they'd stroll home.

PandoraSocks · 28/06/2025 07:10

So the Environment Secretary is very aware of bluetongue? Oops, Derxa.

I agree the Bill should be pulled. The "concessions" make it worse not better IMHO.

Given the government majority, it is not one where you need a vote on the principle of the Bill and then use the Committee stage to refine it, unlike some Private Members Bills.

Excellent interview with Diane Abbott on R4 this morning after the 8 p clock news.

shes such an amazing communicator and I find her so soothing to listen too and nodding along to what she’s saying.

She’s also extremely good at presenting all sides of an argument and realising there is never just 2.

I am not sure what you are saying here?

There does have to be a vote on the bill. Also, if a reasoned amendment was allowed by the Speaker and was voted for, the bill would fail, which is what the rebels were hoping for (and some still are).

I don't think there are any right wing pop songs.

There's a handful, and one was a hit quite recently even beyond the US, but there are not many. It's probably because singing about how you want to promote values like not taking care of the vulnerable in society and being opposed to the rights of women isn't a good look.

nor me.

By all means classify. By all means provide people with a heads up.

But "banning" ? No, that's for those that would oppress.

Catching up. Hope the bill is pulled Tuesday . Its a poor bill and handled really badly. It needs more work. There is no key strategy to it.

And I'll just leave this here. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/secretary-of-state-visits-farm-amidst-bluetongue-outbreaks

I’m glad to see he’s taking this seriously. The government as many of you have said are bad at communicating the good things they do. Unfortunately the last footage shown with Steve Reed was him telling farmers to put less fertiliser on their land and that would save money in case they had to pay inheritance tax. That’s just cloth eared. He should be listening not lecturing. As I have said before, Wes Streeting is brilliant at that. He listens and on occasion apologises

This government essentially doesn’t care if farmers in this country produce food or not. That’s the impression they give at least.

placemats · 28/06/2025 11:17

I shall be watching Rod today because I do like most of his songs and really want to see how the audience react. I shall also be watching Kneecap - that's if the BBC actually record it.

Yes Diane Abbott is an excellent communicater.

Notonthestairs · 28/06/2025 11:34

He's playing Sunday in the teatime slot.

He admits he's a wealthy man protected from any economic fallout of a Farage economy. He can afford to throw the dice on napkin sized plans and enjoy the tax cuts. He says he's friendly with Farage's brother, I don't suppose that has influenced his thinking at all.

But he's free to say whatever he wants. His vote and opinion isn't worth more than mine.

My grandmother was a huge Rod fan so I will watch and raise a glass/mug.

No. I’ll decide for myself whether I want to listen to someone with views I disagree with. Other people should be free to make their own choices too.
