He's playing Sunday in the teatime slot.

He admits he's a wealthy man protected from any economic fallout of a Farage economy. He can afford to throw the dice on napkin sized plans and enjoy the tax cuts. He says he's friendly with Farage's brother, I don't suppose that has influenced his thinking at all.

But he's free to say whatever he wants. His vote and opinion isn't worth more than mine.

My grandmother was a huge Rod fan so I will watch and raise a glass/mug.

He’s a very talented singer and performer, and entitled to his views. I wouldn’t say entertainers or sports people should stay out of politics. Politics is for everyone. I’ll just judge whether I want to interact with them on the basis of their stated views

countrygirl99 · 28/06/2025 11:38

Singers and entertainers are just as entitled to talk about their political views as farmers. It is up to individuals to decide whether they agree with them or not.

Ah yes tomorrow on the legend slot @Notonthestairs It's Neil Young tonight.

At the quiz night last night we discussed about liking the works of people, musicians, playwrighters, artists and novelists etc. All agreed that although the person may be unpleasant, if the content brought you joy and inspiration then that should be acceptable. It's possible to separate the person from the work they create.

DuncinToffee · 28/06/2025 11:55

I am sure Rod can handle a bit of booing

I’ve enjoyed Fran’s Ferdinand and Peter Capaldi at Glastonbury! Amazing set

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2025 12:42

I've just read the Rod interview. He is actually fairly muted his Farage enthusiasm and seems to have very compassionate views on Gaza and Ukraine. And he is really really not a fan of Trumk , Vincent or Musk who he calls 'that car salesman' or somesuch! That was quite cheering.

placemats · 28/06/2025 12:49

Everyone, including myself from my front living room, is going to be singing along to his anthemic songs and most certainly dancing to do you think I'm sexy 😄

Yes, I liked his reaction to the bully boy tactics/double standards used against Zelensky in the White House.

Seem to recall he was quite outspoken about Brexit too.

DuncinToffee · 28/06/2025 13:02

I am not that bothered about his music, I have seen now that the Prodigy is playing tomorrow night, might tune in for that.

I only like Maggie May really and his very early stuff is cooler.

LlttledrummergirI · 28/06/2025 13:06

I think i must be the only household in the country that doesn't get Glastonbury.
It's fabulous to have all these brilliant entertainers in one place, and if paying stupid prices to sleep in a tent in a potentially muddy field floats your boat to hear the then great.

For those that couldn't/ chose not to get tickets and want to watch it on the t.v then this is also available.

Why for God's sake is it also all over the news, preventing actual news from being delivered? If i was interested in it, then I would have found a way of watching. Yes I'm a grouch on this. Grin

PandoraSocks · 28/06/2025 13:51

Self Esteem was brilliant last night. I love her ❤️

Those on the US thread may know I saw the Boss (Springsteen) 3 weeks ago (and McCartney randomly!) I already knew I’d hear his political views, though I massively agree with them anyway.
He kept it short, but it was very moving - you could hear the concern, the sadness. He positioned it as he’d sang for 50 years about the good, and not so good of his home country, so this was relevant to him, his art and his listeners.
I’m definitely biased in Springsteen’s favour and agree with his views, so I was happy to hear this. If he liked the orange one and spent 5 minutes praising him it would have made me think differently of him, not sure I’d have enjoyed his music so much tbh - though I theoretically think that you can and should separate art from artist. Maybe that’s easier after time (depending on artists’ actions).
Obviously Springsteen’s music is tied up in life in the US so maybe that plays into it more than it would with some, including Rod.
All those there/watching along at Glastonbury- enjoy.

DuncinToffee · 28/06/2025 16:22

BBC is going to do a lot of editing before showing Kneecap Grin

All of modern music is based on the music of oppression of US slaves.

derxa · 28/06/2025 17:40

They didn’t bother with any today when Bob Vylan were chanting for death to the IDF and the usual chants about Palestine. Not that I take sides in the situation.

derxa · 28/06/2025 17:42

Sorry that was in response to @DuncinToffee ‘s post about Kneecap.

I thought the BBC wasn't streaming it live? Or are you saying they didn't edit it out before releasing it on iplayer?

I’ve no idea but tv footage is all over the internet.

I heard earlier they aren’t streaming it live but haven’t confirmed if they’ll stream any of it

placemats · 28/06/2025 18:15

BBC did not live stream but will put on highlights of Kneecap

Ah, so BBC will definitely edit it out.

In the meantime Pulp!
