I did like that about John Major.

Aknowledging that you made a mistake and apologise for it is a rarity in politics these days

Is that a reference to Starmer ?

You don't own a mistake by admitting to an even bigger one that you then try and move on past.

"I'm so sorry, I accidentally pulled the trigger on that gun. But now I've owned my mistake nobody needs to ask why the fuck I had a gun, where I got it and what I was going to do with it do they ?"

Is the analogy here.

FFS next doors budgie could have smelled the Powellness of that quote. I certainly could. So what does that say for Stamers advisors, and Starmer himseklf.

I'll guarantee he was warned, but thought he knew best.

Maybe they should stop reviewing people with disabilities that are never going to improve. Nobody with a physical disability is ever going to be less disabled tomorrow than they were yesterday. Just doing that would save money.

Absolutely.

My ds has a degenerative physical condition. But is reviewed again in 2028.

When he first got PIP he was still walking - now he uses a wheelchair for distances. But yet they somehow need to keep reviewing if he has changed. I could understand if he could get a higher award - but he can’t.

Who would have warned him? McSweeny? Doubt it somehow.

Except the quote in context means the exact opposite. Maybe he should have factored in duplicitous press, but what a way to have to govern. It’s madness

Karistyleaftea · 27/06/2025 18:27

@ cardibach "duplicitous press" well said!

@serendipity maybe if the press did not take things out of context and were able to show some sense they would not be whipping up such a frenzy of anti Labour rhetoric.
How would the UK benefit by changing a party leader.
leader now?

It is a ridiculous and damaging way of thinking.
Also
The language from the BBC's reporting on the 6.00 news about Labour is calculated in its savage negativity.

LlynTegid · 27/06/2025 18:35

SerendipityJane · 27/06/2025 16:53

Sorry. Bollocks.

Either interpretation of this claptrap reflects poorly on Starmer.

The only thing most people remember or know about Enoch Powell's speech in 1968 is the 'rivers of blood' sentence and the level of support he had for it.

Had Enoch Powell started a new political party he would have gained a lot of support.

DuncinToffee · 27/06/2025 18:37

If he had ruffled his hair and muttered some latin phrases, he would have been fine

He regrets what he said in that speech, I appreciate that.

Rod Stewart thinks we should give Farage a chance, wonder how that will go down with the Glastonbury crowd at his tea time slot.

DHs a Celtic supporter. He doesn’t give a fuck what old Rod thinks. The terraces at an England match recently rang out with ‘Starmer’s a cunt’. Keir isn’t popular. That wouldn’t be a problem if his decisions were sensible but they are not. He’s alienated an extraordinary amount of different groups in society. However he’s got a long way to go till the next election.

Blimey. Did I hit a nerve or something?

My Glaswegian DH is also a Celtic fan, for what it's worth.

Actually I think Rod is usually a Tory, isn't he?

Karistyleaftea · 27/06/2025 19:01

Nice language tonight @derxa .

BIossomtoes · 27/06/2025 19:03

Nothing as fickle as an ageing rock star.

But Sir Rod also revealed his change of heart when it came to politics, telling the show: "I personally have been a Tory for a long time but I think this government should stand down now and give the Labour Party a go, this is heartbreaking.

I just mentioned Rod to my DH, who pointed me in the direction of this, which dates from when Johnson was elected I think. So your Celtic fan might not care, but some do.

DH only cares about football. He’s completely scunnered by politics at the moment. In general Celtic supporters are definitely not Tories.

Which is why I said that Rod supporting Farage wouldn't go down well with his fellow Celtic supporters. Not sure why you reacted in the way you did to that.

Farage is an irrelevance in Scotland imo. I might be proved wrong.

Yes you’re right. No party is popular atm though. People were glad to give the SNP a kicking but Keir’s antics are giving them pause for thought.

cardibach · 27/06/2025 19:28

Antics?

Piggywaspushed · 27/06/2025 21:06

I also am a Celtic fan. I'm quite partial to Rod really.
