Why do you think you would you be exempt from conscription?

Off the back of other threads. I think I’d be exempt from conscription due to the following:

Severely asthmatic
Diagnosed MH issues
Anaemia
Poor eye sight (-5.50)

What about you?

Over 65?

MidnightPatrol · 22/06/2025 21:50

I’d be exempt because I live in the UK which doesn’t have conscription

TourangaLeila · 22/06/2025 21:51

Too old and female

Husband too old and mental

Children too young

I wondered whether conscription would apply to women these days…

Genuinely I hope anyone not trained would be disqualified - thr idea of civilians going into any war or combat zone is horrific.

IDontHateRainbows · 22/06/2025 21:53

I'm old and not very fit but I'd happily serve in a field hospital or something like that, if they'd have me.

PlumpAndCircumstance · 22/06/2025 21:55

Age
asthma
arthritis
dodgy joints
and I’d be better in a brains/strategy role to be honest

feelingbleh · 22/06/2025 21:56

Health reasons. Heart condition, bipolar, bpd asthma.

Rinkali · 22/06/2025 21:57

I’m too old, which is a shame really, as perimenopausal women have almost nuclear rage capacity, bursts of wild energy and zero filter. Also zero tolerance for being told what to do by fuckwits, unfortunately.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 22/06/2025 21:57

Am menopausal, which might be a positive as i can get fucking angry

I doubt it. We are already under-repopulating the earth.

Autumn1990 · 22/06/2025 22:00

I farm and presume it would be an exempt occupation.

Most of that can be resolved - you don’t have anaemia forever , doesn’t matter if you have bad eyesight - you wear glasses like everyone else. Depends on MH issues I guess. Asthmatic…under control?!

Men conscripted in WW2 were trained. Aside from.basc training, guns etc. my Dad was trained as a wireless operator.

Ilovemyshed · 22/06/2025 22:01

I’m old but not decrepit and would be fantastic in a control room/ comms role so thats where I would aim.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 22/06/2025 22:03

I’m an 40-year-old female so possibly would be ruled out on basis of age/ sex but assuming women were conscripted and it covered up to retirement I assume I would be ruled out for at least one of my diagnoses; Autism, ADHD and a plethora of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, self-harm, eating disorder, OCD, BPD.

Pyramyth · 22/06/2025 22:04

What happens in countries with conscription if you have dependent children? If my husband and I were both conscripted, that would be the main issue as it would for just about everyone with children.

RepoTheGeriatricOpera · 22/06/2025 22:05

Too menopausal

Too fat

Too lazy

Can't use my left arm and my left leg is dodgy after a stroke

Haven't got the inclination

Too gobby

Too squeamish

And many, many more.

ChaToilLeam · 22/06/2025 22:07

Too old and shit eyesight.

They might find me a non-combat role though. Probably put me to work sewing buttons on uniforms or something like that.

WibbleyPie · 22/06/2025 22:07

Previous mental illness and arthritis would stop me serving in the front line I think, I'd be a very slow moving/limping target, but I'd happily do anything like looking after the injured or one of the occupations that need doing at home that I'm capable of.

Went to Eden Camp a little while ago and was fascinated with the women's contributions, the land army etc and how it's now more recognised that women made a huge contribution to the 'war effort'. My nan welded planes during the 2nd world war, if you'd known her as an older lady with children and grandchildren you'd have never in a million years expected her to know one end of a welder from the other! There was a hut in eden Camp that depicted that kind of industrial work done by women and it was a strange feeling knowing that's what my nan did.

Lol! Me too! Not sure they would want some fat exhausted 51 year old. I'm very good and problem solving. Running, not so much.

Cannon fodder?

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 22/06/2025 22:09

I'm over 55

But my DC are in their 20s and I am really worried about what might happen in the future

SakaPotatoes · 22/06/2025 22:10

Because I'm old, fat and delusional in hoping we all just say no to killing each other, because we only get the one life.
