Why do you think you would you be exempt from conscription?

Darkling1 · 22/06/2025 21:50

Off the back of other threads. I think I’d be exempt from conscription due to the following:

Severely asthmatic
Diagnosed MH issues
Anaemia
Poor eye sight (-5.50)

What about you?

I think two of my sons would be, it's terrifying. One son isn't in good enough health for active duty but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be capable of some war work.

SirChenjins · 22/06/2025 22:13

I'm over 55, menopausal and can barely remember my own name these days, so I don't think Id be much use on the battlefield other than for enemy target practice.

Otoh, I'd be happy in a support role.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 22/06/2025 22:14

Too old
Unfit
Asthmatic
Autistic and mh stuff

I’m 42 so maybe too old but apart from that I can’t think of anything. My eyesight is about -6 so I’d be in the shit if I lost my glasses but would that count?

Pedallleur · 22/06/2025 22:16

Children of anyone who has money/influence/going to Oxford or Cambridge. Anyone in a profession unless they are a reservist eg Doctor. There were exemptions in WW2. Miners, engine drivers but you could volunteer.
Basically the same people who always avoid war. Trump is notable as he avoided Vietnam. And certainly no one from the RF despite all those medals/uniforms

LaurieFairyCake · 22/06/2025 22:16

Over 50 so no use for front line work or fighting, a strong gust would blow over my (almost) 8 stone

JohnWickAteMyHamster · 22/06/2025 22:17

Small feet
Get tired really easily
No thank you I don't want to

minnienono · 22/06/2025 22:19

A. The U.K. doesn’t have conscription B. I’m over 50, over weight and can barely run for the bus C. The modern military needs highly trained highly skilled operatives though i would willingly offer my services in logistics

InfoSecInTheCity · 22/06/2025 22:20
  1. Diabetic
  2. Severely visually impaired in one eye and shortsighted as a bat in the other
  3. gallbladder removed, not sure if that would be an issue or not
Bingbangboo · 22/06/2025 22:21

Too fat mainly.
Also unlikely to get a uniform to fit me as I am too tall for all clothes and my feet are too big/wide for all shoes. Perhaps I will enlist just to see what they've got.
I also burn really easily and I can't imagine there is much time for liberal SPF50 application prior to combat.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 22/06/2025 22:22

Autism
Scoliosis
Awful eyesight

Hollyandben · 22/06/2025 22:23

everyone's got some kind of impairment, disability or mental health issue. I thought they said there would be no conscription for us.

I’m too old, which is a shame really, as perimenopausal women have almost nuclear rage capacity, bursts of wild energy and zero filter. Also zero tolerance for being told what to do by fuckwits, unfortunately.

To be fair an army compiled of mainly menopausal women would be a sight to behold - I have spent my life being a meek and mild people pleaser. Yet even on HrT the bullshit-ometer screams on a daily basis and when I get cross I go totally nuclear. Not very often but I could channel that and I feel I’d be an asset.

Rather be conscripted than my DC.

TeenLifeMum · 22/06/2025 22:25

I read the title and thought “I don’t think I’d get out of it…” but then read the post. I have asthma, anaemia and my right eye is -5 and left is -4.5. It’s interesting that I don’t see any of that being a barrier. In reality I’m probably too old.

Hollyandben · 22/06/2025 22:25

Gonk123 · 22/06/2025 22:00

Most of that can be resolved - you don’t have anaemia forever , doesn’t matter if you have bad eyesight - you wear glasses like everyone else. Depends on MH issues I guess. Asthmatic…under control?!

Cant See Scooby Doo GIF by moodman

😂

AmyDuPlantier · 22/06/2025 22:27

I’d be so opposed to putting myself in danger for someone else’s stupid war, that I’d be an absolute menace until they sent me packing.

RandomNameSelection · 22/06/2025 22:27

DH and I would be too old but hopefully somehow we’d be able to swap with our DDs who are probably exactly the right age to be sent and have nothing to rule them out. Rather us than them.

Fucking depressing though. Throughout human history surely most people haven’t wanted to and have been frightened to do so and yet we keep doing it over and over again.

Gingernaut · 22/06/2025 22:27

57 - Too old
Asthmatic with severe allergies
Too short
MSK issues

Namechangetheyarewatching · 22/06/2025 22:28

I'm in my 50s, and an officer in the Army Cadets with range qualifications. I would volunteer in a heart beat.

Cappuccino5 · 22/06/2025 22:28

I’ve got 14 screws, 2 metal rods and a whole lot of sciatica in my back!

Els1e · 22/06/2025 22:29

Too old, 62years
Health issues which need daily medication
Above all, clumsy. Put a gun in my hand, I will just shoot whatever

EwwwwwwDavid · 22/06/2025 22:30

obese
autistic
ADHD (medicated)
anxiety (medicated)
youngish children

plus I would throw a big strop

gerispringer · 22/06/2025 22:31

Since most warfare involves flying drones from remote locations all those kids who spend ages gaming would be perfect candidates.,

I’m clutching at straws here. I’m 29, so I may well be in the age demographic.

Imagine all the Mums of the world asking their children to switch off their games consoles ready for bed and they respond “Not now, Mum! I’m training for war!” 😁
