Why do you think you would you be exempt from conscription?

Off the back of other threads. I think I’d be exempt from conscription due to the following:

Severely asthmatic
Diagnosed MH issues
Anaemia
Poor eye sight (-5.50)

What about you?

Current recruitment into the regulars is VERY strict - even seasonally induced asthma from hay fever is a reason to reject. However conscription isn’t recruiting and lots of things would be overlooked. Female, of course, we fought long enough for equality in the armed forces. This biggest barrier will be the ability to master complex systems and strategies in a short space of time. Oh, and the ability to shut the fuck up andjust do what you’re told. Many moons ago had a trans woman in a billet in the female accommodation. No issues, no twattishness, we all got on with her and gave what support she wanted. She was a mechanic so a fab friend to have!

I'm a single parent of dependent DC.

I was talking about this the other day. If women were to be conscripted, I don't know if them (and males!) would try to get out of it. Women aren't fighting in Russia or Ukraine are they?

Rather worryingly though there was recently a Yougov survey and a high amount of "eligible" respondents said they wouldn't be prepared to fight in a war even for their own country.

Newnamesagain · 22/06/2025 22:37

I like to think I'd be more useful elsewhere.

I’m clutching at straws here. I’m 29, so I may well be in the age demographic.

I’m 43 but I did join the university of London officer training corps (while at uni) and filling out the form I was told to put I didn’t have asthma or I couldn’t join. I lied and said I didn’t. My mum, on discovering I’d joined, said “you’re the standard of the British army? God help us all!” 😂😂😂 (I joined with a friend because she wanted to meet men and I liked the cheap booze in the officers’ mess compared to London bar prices.)

Ladamesansmerci · 22/06/2025 22:39

Shit eyes even with glasses.

I've got too much significant mental health history, such as self harm.

Lougle · 22/06/2025 22:39

Over 40, regular medication, migraines.

Pyramyth · 22/06/2025 22:42

Also, am a teacher so if it were the same rules as WWI and II, I wouldn't be conscripted as in a reserved profession.

TheAutumnCrow · 22/06/2025 22:42

I'm a communist.

😂

Do you seriously think people who wear glasses are not in the army 😂😂 I used to hand out the glasses and lenses for gas masks at the training camp - trust me it doesn’t stop them!

Women are fighting in Ukraine, but it's voluntary, whereas men are conscripted.

Solaire18381 · 22/06/2025 22:46

@crackofdoom thank you, yes I thought something like that.

I do wonder if in the UK conscription would apply to both male and female. Easier said in theory, than practise or if it came to the crunch, I know.

MrsKypp · 22/06/2025 22:47

Some really funny posts on this thread 😂

MeatloafSingsSongs · 22/06/2025 22:48

Im old fat and female?

TheFairyCaravan · 22/06/2025 22:48

I can’t walk unaided, let alone run the amount of miles DS1 does with the huge amount of weight they’re expected to carry on their back, when they’re training. I don’t know how he manages it, he’s 30 with a 3 metal plates in his ankle but he cracks on.

ConscriptIon won’t happen. Army recruitment always goes up as soons as there’s any murmurs of war.

I expect the Reform UK voters and politicians to sign up first, since they are so patriotic!

I’m 47 and my left kneecap dislocates every time I move (slight exaggeration but it’s fucked and needs replacing).

I’d be very happy to have a role that isn’t physical though. Like the modern equivalent to filling in charts, moving models and managing information in the war rooms like in WW2.

But I am a shit shot and a frontline liability. Would also be a terrible spy. But I can organise stuff and manage people. So they can do what they will with that.

ittersbitters · 22/06/2025 22:51

Why would there be an age limit these days? If it's just cannon fodder does it matter how fit someone is?

MrsKypp · 22/06/2025 22:51

Reading this thread it's clear why the DWP is overwhelmed with PIP applications 😂

Pyramyth · 22/06/2025 22:04

What happens in countries with conscription if you have dependent children? If my husband and I were both conscripted, that would be the main issue as it would for just about everyone with children.

In WW2 my great grandad wasn’t conscripted because he had four young children and his wife had died. Almost 100 years later there is no way anyone will ever be conscripted in the UK so this is a pointless thread they’d leave dependent children without a parent.

ittersbitters · 22/06/2025 22:53

I don't think it's surprising. We have shafted the young so why should they fight? Perhaps the new power may offer a better alternative vs death, many countries are ageing and need young people.

Bluehydra · 22/06/2025 22:54

I can’t think of anything except being female so I suppose I’d be going!

Chalk111111 · 22/06/2025 22:54

Hollyandben · 22/06/2025 22:23

everyone's got some kind of impairment, disability or mental health issue. I thought they said there would be no conscription for us.

Who has said? What on earth is happening on Mumsnet tonight? 😂😂

Age demographic for what? Why on Earth would you have to get out of conscription? You’re not getting conscripted. No one is.
