I can’t believe I’m not seeing more threads on this. Starmer back israel against Iran. Other Muslim countries are supporting Iran.

Do you care about the people in Israel who have been bombed for years? Got any flippant comments for them as well?

I like to hope I’m ‘scaremongering’ but countries are already starting to take ‘sides’ and if US start sending troops to Israel are we going to as well?

Iran have said they’re aiming at attacking uk and french embassies as were allies.

If you look at a map you’ll see that Israel and Iran don’t share a border. Israel doesn’t need American ground troops.

Why would we send troops to Israel - there are two countries between Iran and Israel. Neither side are going to be sending ground troops in eiher direction, thought there may be a possibility that Israeli special forces could do something very specific on the ground at some point as a hit and run attack.

Nevermind91 · 15/06/2025 01:05

The sad thing for me is, long after we're all gone, Iran will still be funding Hamas and Hezbollah, Israel will still be doing everything to keep them at bay with an increasingly heavy hand, and Joe and Josephine Public will still be arguing about who the bad guy is.

Israel might just have prevented WW3 if they’ve taken out Iran’s nuclear weapon capability.

And who is going to protect you from Israel when they have so many weapons including nuclear weapons and goodness knows what else? Let's face it, this is a ploy to destabilise Iran so Israel can continue doing what they're doing but over a bigger land space. Land that doesn't belong to them. Maybe stop watching mainstream media who are constantly gagged by the powers that be whilst at the same time repeating the same old tired "freedom of speech" something they certainly don't have! Time to wake up?

MushMonster · 15/06/2025 01:10

It is certainly very concerning. It does have a potential for WWIII, unfortunately.
Why? Because old alliances plus the transport of goods through Middle East, plus the price of petrol affecting far too many other countries for them to sit and do nothing.
Let's hope that it does not come to that, but we should keep an eye on the news.

I think UK should keep fully out of it. We should not allow US to drag us down into it. And I think Netanyahu will drag Trump into it. But why should UK risk the lives of any of our guys? Or even our equipment? To support a US that does not appreciate what UK has done in the past (the random country comment comes to mind), plus Netanyahu's government, which has several individuals sanctioned in UK.
They will try to get UK involved. Of that I have no doubt. Thinking of our guys on the ground, their families and the RAF personnel just sent over there. And praying it stops now and none of them gets any harm.

If iran launched a nuclear weapon at Israel (or Russia at Ukraine) what would the outcome be? Presuming noone retaliated (I'm assuming they may well do, but if they didn't) would that destroy the surrounding area only, or the entire countries, or send radiation across the world?
I tried to Google this the other day and couldn't find clear answers.

Iran doesn’t have nuclear weapons
Israel does

There are sites that show fallout etc for major cities based on various different nuclear bombs. There’s one showing what would happen to London and surrounding areas. It has all been analysed.

WalkingaroundJardine · 15/06/2025 01:14

PyongyangKipperbang · 15/06/2025 00:36

Considered by whom? And how long is your "post war period" exactly?

I would suggest that the people of Korea, China, Japan, Spain, N.Ireland, East Germany et al would disagree.

This is not actually disputed. It’s known as “The Long Peace”. You can google it for yourself. Obviously it doesn’t mean no war at all but that relative to history, there were fewer of them in the world in the post war period and more likely to be civil wars.

Absolutely not. I’m just quite surprised at the lack of concern in what feel like really concerning activities. I don’t personally want the UK to be dragged into a war but each to their own.

Will you go up the front and protect your country?

Ilovelifeverymuch · 15/06/2025 01:28

Morningsleepin · 14/06/2025 23:27

Indeed. And for the record, Iran does not have a nuclear bomb. It enriches uranium for its power stations and has done for many years

Hahahaha whilst I think Israel has gone too far especially with Gaza, claiming Iran is only enriching uranium for power stations is the most ridiculous statement I've read in a while. You really believe that bullshit?? 😆 😂

Let me guess their sponsorship of the Houthis in Yemen to disrupt shipping routes is just for climate change and their support for Hezbollah is simply for world peace right 😂 😆 😆 😂 😆, and Iran sponsoring Hamas which ended up killing over 1200 people last year was not true, Hamas just wanted to give out hugs 😂

You're hilarious 🤣

LaLaLaLavaChChChChicken · 15/06/2025 01:29

It is no wonder the region can’t have peace when so many people have conflicting opinions on it.

I support the liberation of women in Iran, the freedom of all people to live their lives without fear is any sort. The ability to have enough food, shelter and medical help for everyone, regardless of race or religion. We are on the only place in the universe we know can harbour human life and yet the elite treat it as their own personal game - just as they have always done. People are manipulated into generational hatred of others. It will never be enough until the world is destroyed. Bunch of wankers in charge.

But the UK are going to have to choose a side here. And I absolutely would not want the government to be sympathetic to Iran. They’re dangerous, and I would imagine most of the world doesn’t want them developing nuclear weapons.

I wouldn’t want anything to do with Israel either. They’ve killed tens of thousands and bombed their neighbours. As for Trump…just no.
We can choose not to side with any of them like adults.

JHound · 15/06/2025 01:56

Nope it has not started. Although if it was it would be a first that it was not the Europeans starting a mess.

I just want us to stay well out of it. This is not our problem.

JHound · 15/06/2025 02:00

JemimaTiggywinkles · 15/06/2025 00:42

Not ww3. Israel have set back the Iranian regime. Actual Iranians seem pleased that their oppressors are being killed. This might instead be the liberation of Iran (and particularly women and gay people in that country).

My friend is Iranian and horrified at the Israeli bombs (including those that have hit near to residential areas where her family live in Tehran.
She is opposed both to the Iranian regime AND foreign aggression. I doubt she is alone in that.

MushMonster · 15/06/2025 02:05

I am in the same boat, I do not want UK getting involved in any way.
But how is that going to happen when a conflict between these two countries will certainly affect the transport of crude and goods via sea? It really worries me that we will get dragged into yet another war.

Agree @TomeTome
thats what I would prefer too.

drivinmecrazy · 15/06/2025 02:08

The dichotomy I have is that Netanyahu is using Israel’s actions to deflect and protect.
To protect his longevity in office to prevent him from facing court cases that await him when he’s no longer in office.
To deflect international attention away from his actions in Gaza.

so while I’m all for support of removing the current regime in Iran, it doesn’t feel comfortable for it to be manipulated for others benefits.

frankly it frazzles my head.

But beyond all of my musings, it seems clear that violence and war breeds nothing but violence and war.
Nothing will be resolved by another conflict.

at some point we have to chose peace but no one seems ready to do that 😢

Tbh I can’t see us being dragged kicking and screaming.
I think Starmer will support Israel in a military capacity.

I truly wish I knew why but he’s been verbally supporting them in Gaza despite everything

I thought exactly the same. All this scarey news and MN goes merrily on discussing the usual stuff and not a word about fighter jets with nuclear weapons being scrambled.

Stop it. The UK does not have air based nuclear weapons.

Educate yourself before getting all hysterical and inciting fear.
