I can’t believe I’m not seeing more threads on this. Starmer back israel against Iran. Other Muslim countries are supporting Iran.

@DrPrunesqualer

The religious aspect of the conflict in the middle east has been massively glossed over in the West with a "mad mullahs hate our freedoms" narrative, but the role of Jewish and Christian Zionist eschatology in this is obscured.

Firstly there is the Greater Israel project, where they claim that Genesis 15:18 justifies control over all the land from the Nile to the Euphrates. If you look closely at some members of the IDF, you can see greater Israel map patches on their uniforms, which includes bits of Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Saudi arabia.

Then there is the Temple Project, led by the Temple Institute that wants to destroy Al Asqa mosque and build a third temple on the site to usher in the jewish messiah. The Likud party, which Netenyahu leads, openly supports the Temple Institute and their aims. (Note however that many Jews oppose this on religious grounds believing that the third temple should be built by the messiah rather than before they arrive.)

The importing of a herd of red heifers in 2022 by the Temple Institute, for use in the purification ritual of the Third Temple (as described in Numbers 19) was the spark for the Al Asqa Flood/Oct 7th, where Hamas believed that the importing of the red heifers meant that the destruction of Al Asqa was immanent, as the cows must be sacrificed by 2026 to meet the age conditions of ritual described.

Christian Zionists also support the building of the Third Temple, and are big funders of the temple institute as well as the original breeders of the red heifers in Texas, not to usher in the Messiah, but to summon the Anti-Christ, who will destroy the Jews, leading to Jesus's return.

Thankyou for posting.
This is really interesting my knowledge of the Old Testament ( speaking as a Christian that is ) is very sketchy and clearly worthy of another look.

( For most of us we focus on the New Testament )

MushMonster · 16/06/2025 09:29

The idea that any human could possibly summon God or would want to summon the devil are not part of what I know of religion indeed.
All Bible content is about spiritual meaning, the relationship between each of us and God. Not related to this world. And only God has the power to send any Messiah here whenever He decides to. This of any possibility of a human summoning this.... not in my realm of existance.

Will you go up the front and protect your country?

No I’d be too busy protecting my vulnerable family members. Possibly why I dont want a war… 🤔

Agree that most, if not all the hostages are dead - at Israel's own hands!

Do you have any evidence for this?

justasking111 · 16/06/2025 11:45

Iran is calling for an islamic army to rise and fight their enemies. Now our security services have thwarted groups. However, I don't think they can stop individuals like the man in Colorado, Germany, etc. from getting into a car and driving at groups ploughing them down. There are many targets at this time of year with running events, festivals. I've marshalled at family events like this no way could the volunteers stop anything.

Then we have trains, buses etc people in confined spaces and a sharp weapon used

I wonder if there will be government warnings, as we had back in the day or is there any point when the deed will be done by someone that friends, neighbours family have never suspected.

Bluebrain · 16/06/2025 11:52

Will it be possible for Iran to mobilise the Sunni Muslims to support their Shia ambitions?
Doubtful.

What's the point of evidence?
You only believe it if the BBC reports it
Whether or not it's later proven to be false

EmeraldShamrock000 · 16/06/2025 12:07

There has been threads, they do not stay up for a long time.

Let's stand with peace in the face of aggression, not that it will much a difference when aggressive men are in charge.

Do I? How do you know what I do or don't believe?

The point of evidence is backing up big claims like the one the PP made.Otherwise it's just meaningless.

Forfoxesakes · 16/06/2025 12:29

I suspect an awful lot of other middle eastern countries dislike both Iran and Israel for different reasons.

I don't think there's really a 'correct' side to be on here. Both are doing awful things. This is pretty much what the Syed article said.

However, as a woman I'd far rather live in Israel than Iran. They are a democracy and allow women and homosexuals to live as equals in their society. They also don't send children onto minefields.

The best thing that could happen is if the religious zealots in charge of Iran were overthrown by their own people (which I believe the majority want). That would probably go a long way to changing things and making peace more likely.

justasking111 · 16/06/2025 12:35

If they depose the present regime in Iran it's going to be a precarious painful time for the country, perhaps civil war.

I don’t understand why there isn’t more concern either. Israel attacked another country, who retaliated. Neither country is known for being reasonable or for being reasoned with. I think there should be more general concern. Imminent WW3- not necessarily, but UK/ US siding with the aggressor against countries that are known to react strongly. Yes, it gives me some concerns.

Actually, Iran attacked Israel - that's aside from the fact Iran funds Hamas and Hezollah and the Houthi.

That's libel - that his wife and children are Jewish (I don't know) influencing his policy would mean he was using his office to the profit of his family or their friends.
I think the real reason he supports Israel is that the US does, Pat McFadden (Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster) has probably backed this, and that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East, is an outpost of the West, and is surrounded by countries many of which, including Iran, have as part of their constitution the destruction of Israel/(all) Jews.

Sorry to get in the way of your blatant ant semitism but the UK is rightly backing Israel in its fight with Iran, given that Iranian proxies have attacked British ships, kidnapped Royal Navy and let's not forget less than two months ago five Iranians were arrested for plotting a terrorist bomb in London.

But hey don't let that get in the way of your prejudice.

I don't believe the UK is backing Israel in this attack unless you have evidence to the contrary.

Absolutely, it wasn't just the UK patrolling the waters to allow shipping to pass through safely. @esem would soon be winging if her orders at the pharmacy, Amazon, etc were held up 🙄

justasking111 · 16/06/2025 13:48

We're near an RAF BASE that trains pilots. We've had quite the display as have bases elsewhere. For the last month. It's all gone silent here in the last few days. I do 🙏 for those highly skilled pilots.

notimagain · 16/06/2025 14:04

Difficult to comment on that without getting you to out yourself/location but it's worth bearing in mind flying training can be quite cyclical..

With everyone signed up to the Treaty of non Proliferation.
Iran have signed it, now it’s about time Israel does too. They’ve had long enough

If they truly want peace sign!

Edited

The expression “speaking with forked tongue” could have been invented for the Iranian regime. Iran issued a fatwa against nuclear weapons, just like it said Nazanin Ratcliffe was a British spy and that its April attack on Israel was a “decisive victory against Zionism” (even though 99% of its missiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome) 🙄 If you still believe that Khomeini was speaking the truth about non-proliferation, despite Iran being found by the IAEA to be enriching uranium to 60% (when fuel requires about 3%), I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

It’s pretty staggering to see a regime which has actually tortured members of my family in recent history, forced them into hiding, detained them without charge and subjected them to arbitrary arrest, being defended on lovely liberal MN, the implication being that the mullahs in charge are just a bit rotten to women and girls (true - just ask Mahsa Amini’s family) but otherwise pretty straight.

Wrong - they are an Islamofascist totalitarian regime with a brutal human rights record and an appetite for death. Nobody sane wants them to have nuclear weapons, but the Israel-hate is blinding people to the facts.

I want everyone to sign the agreement.

Including Israel.
If they sign they will be monitored and held to account.
The world will have more trust if they agree to do so.

They won’t and never have. So. They can’t be trusted.

After Gaza I and many others don’t trust Netanyahu one iota. Why would we.
