I can’t believe I’m not seeing more threads on this. Starmer back israel against Iran. Other Muslim countries are supporting Iran.

I read today that scientists in Iran were killed with a car bomb. I wonder who is working inside the country against the regime

"I asked earlier why did Kuwait kick out nearly a million Palestinians. Why won't Jordan take any more. Why wouldn't Egypt take them in?"

"Because they are heartless backwards regimes?"

FFS - don't you people have access to Google or Wikipedia??

Kuwait kicked 287k Palestinians out of Kuwait after they sided with Saddam Hussein in the invasion of Kuwait and seized Kuwaiti property.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PalestinianexodussfromKuwaitt(1990%E2%80%9391)

After admitting Palestinian refugees after the 1967 six day war, Jordan expelled the Palestinian leadership in 1971 after the PLO assassinated the PM of Jordan and when they tried to overthrow King Hussein.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_September

Egypt wouldn't take the Palestinians in either when Hamas and Islamic State launched terrorist attacks against Egypt in Northern Sinai smuggling weapons and terrorists into N Sinai via tunnels, that Egypt eventually tried to stop by flooding the tunnels with sewage.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinai_insurgency

So in all three cases after offering refuge to Palestinians refugees, their leadership turned on their hosts.

And you wonder why neither Egypt or Jordan want to repeat this mistake?

After Operation Desert Storm saw Iraqi forces defeated and pushed out of Kuwait by a coalition led by the United States, more than 287,000 Palestinians were forced to leave Kuwait in March 1991 by the government and fear of abuse by the Kuwait Armed Forces.[1][4][5] Most of the fleeing Palestinians went to Jordan, and limited numbers ended up in Iraq, Israel, the United States, Australia and Canada.[6]

So like I said - because they are a backwards, heartless regime.

@1dayatatime thanks for that brilliant summary.

See... why would people use Google? Mumsnet is far better.

There was a section on LBC when a caller asked a Palestine expert about this, why doesn't Egypt take them in and I was alert whilst cooking to hear the reply... she' smoothly distracted and avoided it.

Do you not think it's strange that no one ever ask Palestinians if they want to move to Egypt or Jordan or wherever it is people are so desperate to shuffle them off to? In September 2024, 92 percent of Gazans said they wanted to go back to their pre-war homes in Gaza. In May if this year 70% of Gazans said they want to return to their homes. 21% of Israelis want to leave, are we having discussions about who will take Israelis on?

Why the fixation on moving Gazans on when a similar amount of Israelis want to leave too? Does the UK want to take on almost 2million Israelis, how about the US, Germany? Your all so supportive of them surely you will take them all in with open arms, they want to leave after all. So why aren't we having this discussion too, deciding who will take on almost 2million Israelis, after all they are at war with at least 5 different places at this point why wouldn't you give them a safe haven, let's see who puts their hands up for that shall we because so far I haven't seen any volunteers.

I don’t understand why there isn’t more concern either. Israel attacked another country, who retaliated. Neither country is known for being reasonable or for being reasoned with. I think there should be more general concern. Imminent WW3- not necessarily, but UK/ US siding with the aggressor against countries that are known to react strongly. Yes, it gives me some concerns.

Yes, Iran bombed Israel on Saturday, after Israel killed several citizens the previous 2 days, which including a number of scientists who were directly targetted as well as members of the government - with a total death toll of 78.

As for their constitution supporting the destruction of Israel, that's a rather telling inference, given that their constitution does not mention Israel or the zionist entity explicitly, but does call for the elimination of imperialism (Article 3) and the just struggles of the oppressed against the oppressors (Article 154)...if the cap fits, I guess.

In terms of fundamentalist theocratic tyrannies, Israel is a state whose leader invokes I Samuel 15, to describe the Palestinians as the "children of Amalek" then calls to "blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven" (the commandment originally given to the Jews during the Exodus, but which Saul rejected), while he presides over an ethno-nationalist state imprisoning, bombing and starving what is left of the 2.2 million population of Gaza.

(And, lets not forget that while Israel's nuclear weapons are illegal, uninspected and unaccountable, the US - the only state that has proven a willingness to use them against a civilian population, and which has been involved in multiple wars with millions of deaths over just the last twenty years, often utilising proxies - openly has the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons in the world.)

Iran, whose leader has repeatedly stated that nuclear weapons are against Islamic principles, and has issued a fatwa (religious judgement) to that effect seems positively benign by comparison and definitely a whole lot more sane.

I think @willowtree99 has posted some very clear and well thought posts here.

Hfox

Iran kills or allows women and children to be killed all the time and we don't know the true number because it's hard to report in what is essentially a giant prison camp with different levels depending on your sex.

If you're born female your absolutely fucked like in the other radically islamic countries.

OP I thought the same where are the chats about this. Of course people will be worried.

So it's OK to bomb Iranian women and children, we just can't mistreat them?

MushMonster · 16/06/2025 07:28

Woken up to a continuation of the heavy bombardments. There is no way this is going to stop till one of the sides is obliterated. It is a full on war. And every bomb that hits makes me have less hope that any pull and negotiations the international community puts on will have any effect.
And Trump has just posed as a totally untrustworthy negotiator with governments in the Middle East, which I am sure will have negative consequences going forward.
At least UK is not mentioned in the news as having striked anything.
Though there are a few lines suggesting US has intercepted some missiles.

Praying that it stops.

Reddicchio · 16/06/2025 07:37

Definitely a good idea to shut down potential nuclear capacity in Iran, the world thanks Israel. The Iranian regime mistreats women and children.

MushMonster · 16/06/2025 07:39

If you read the news, you will see alliances are being pledged in official statements, as we speak. Posing. But if we go for what they say.... it is not looking great. It is looking like the conflict has a huge potential for fast fast spreading.
I have not spotted any further staments from Starmer though, neither spotted anything on UK getting involved in the field, or any other countries.
I think we will have another heavy day of bombardments.
Fingers crossed.

Why can't Iran have nuclear power?

The US has the largest nuclear power capacity in the world, yet women's rights there are abysmal.

MushMonster · 16/06/2025 07:53

I cannot see Israel having many admirers within Middle East. And there is where the potential for fast spreading are, alongside the use of other countries air space, plus the huge economic intetests involved. We can only hope that external pressure, on both, can stop it or contain it to the two of them, only... I, personally, have reduced hopes that it will stop here.
Europe is already preocupied with Russia, so I think they will remain neutral and UK should do the same.

Its bizarre thinking. We've killed tens of thousands of women and children after keeping them in an open prison for decades so we're going to bomb Iranians to freedom.

I agree. It really doesn’t matter how many time people pop up to reframe Israeli behaviour, we can all see what they are doing.

Let’s be on the side of peace. Let’s be the country and people who don’t condone bombing and starving people.

@DrPrunesqualer

The religious aspect of the conflict in the middle east has been massively glossed over in the West with a "mad mullahs hate our freedoms" narrative, but the role of Jewish and Christian Zionist eschatology in this is obscured.

Firstly there is the Greater Israel project, where they claim that Genesis 15:18 justifies control over all the land from the Nile to the Euphrates. If you look closely at some members of the IDF, you can see greater Israel map patches on their uniforms, which includes bits of Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Saudi arabia.

Then there is the Temple Project, led by the Temple Institute that wants to destroy Al Asqa mosque and build a third temple on the site to usher in the jewish messiah. The Likud party, which Netenyahu leads, openly supports the Temple Institute and their aims. (Note however that many Jews oppose this on religious grounds believing that the third temple should be built by the messiah rather than before they arrive.)

The importing of a herd of red heifers in 2022 by the Temple Institute, for use in the purification ritual of the Third Temple (as described in Numbers 19) was the spark for the Al Asqa Flood/Oct 7th, where Hamas believed that the importing of the red heifers meant that the destruction of Al Asqa was immanent, as the cows must be sacrificed by 2026 to meet the age conditions of ritual described.

Christian Zionists also support the building of the Third Temple, and are big funders of the temple institute as well as the original breeders of the red heifers in Texas, not to usher in the Messiah, but to summon the Anti-Christ, who will destroy the Jews, leading to Jesus's return.
