Anyone else appalled and shocked at Dawn French's social media video mocking the reaction to the terror attack in Israel on Oct 6th. What on earth was she thinking ? She comes across as horrible and lacking in any empathy. I feel sorry for the innocent people on both sides of this war, in Palestine and in Israel.

She’s trying to say ‘no’ to what the Israeli govt is doing now, but it’s landed really badly.

Maybe she should stick to comedy. But I don’t think she’s funny any more.

BellissimoGecko · 07/06/2025 09:48

If she had acknowledged what a terrible atrocity Hamas committed, it might have been better. But she didn’t.

Definitely not AI?

I wondered that but it was 2 days ago so I'm sure they've had time to deny etc.

No she’s defended it

ScraptionoftheCost · 07/06/2025 09:50

It's more telling than funny that she called one of her 'comedy' shows Dawn French is a Huge Twat.

SteakBakesAndHotTakes · 07/06/2025 09:52

It's completely sickening that she and so many others dismiss and actually make fun of terrorists attacking teenagers at a music festival (that was promoting peace), elderly people, babies, and families. Kidnapping from their own homes and attacking them. A 9 year old girl was attacked until her pelvis dislocated. The deaths literally decimated the population, the terrorists uploaded their victims' suffering to their Facebook accounts so their families and friends would see, and victims are still being held hostage in Gazan homes.

If someone can laugh at that and call it 'a bad thing' they are completely disgusting and deranged.

Tryonemoretime · 07/06/2025 09:53

Perhaps she should have said "No" about the two red headed hostage babies who were strangled by their captors.
This is a complicated and appalling situation with terrible things done by both sides. Israel is the only democracy in the whole region. The government can be voted out. But Hamaas? Last election was in 2006. And their treatment of women and gays is absolutely appalling

fruitandvegoverload · 07/06/2025 09:57

She's been unfunny and unlikeable for years. I used to love French and Saunders and still like Jennifer, but Dawn comes across as very full of herself and unpleasant. I think I first came to that opinion after reading her autobiography but I can't remember the details as it was years ago!

She launched her book somewhere with a Clarkson book one side and another author on the other and she said - here I am between two twats - but she was laughed at as they had hardly any books left compared to her huge pile - I don't think she's a nice person really.

Apologies - Oct 7th.

Do you also remember the dates of Israeli atrocities on Palestinians?

Think about why you don’t.

Being a democracy doesn’t excuse genocide.

User37482 · 07/06/2025 07:41

Yeah it was pretty disgusting tbh, murdering 1200 people isn’t “a bad thing” (whingy voice). I doubt she would have been so dismissive of any other terroro attack. You can be deeply concerned about Palestinians and the actions of the Israeli government without being so utterly morally depraved.

She doesn’t refer to a single event, it’s you who have made that connection.

Terrible things done by both sides, historically yes - but only one side has been engaged for months in the mass murder of children and babies through the intentional blocking of aid access. The Israeli government has taken the atrocity of Oct 7th as carte blanche to genocide an entire civilian population.

Flomingho · 07/06/2025 09:59

Awful. I expected better from her. She usually seems intelligent and switched on with current affairs and politics, so not sure why she has done this. Innocent people have lost their lives on both sides of this conflict. Not a matter to be mocked.

Exactly. It is sickening, and sickening that people on MN are trying to defend her and justify the racist, homophobic and misogynist terrorism of the Palestinians. (Yes, 'ordinary' Palestinians who cheered and celebrated the sight of babies being strangled and children being raped.)

I quite honestly just don't understand the politics of it all - a few very intelligent people have tried but I just don't get it. What I do get is 10's of thousands of innocent people being killed and living in horrendous conditions and then the like of DF essentially taking the piss out of them all.

You’re right. You don’t understand. AT ALL. Best not to say anything.

I thought she was saying no to what The Israeli government is doing in Gaza and the West Bank. She is pointing out that there is no excuse for what they are doing?

Fine do that just without the mocking baby voice with the 'bad things' . What an absolutely appalling thing to say.

Blame hamas.

If she wishes to support gazans that is up to her. Her baby voice mocking is sickening.

But there is an excuse. Look it up hun.

I wonder if she is well? What a bizarre and offensive thing to post.

But any criticism of Israel is labelled as antisemitic by the Israeli government. See recently Macron being accused by the Israeli foreign minister of “a crusade against the Jewish State”.

On the one hand people are correctly reminded told not to conflate Jewish people and Israel - yet on the other hand the Israeli government does just that at every opportunity to try to deflect all legitimate criticism. In the eyes of this extreme right wing Israeli government if you are Jewish and you criticise Israel in any way you’re basically a traitor.

Edited

This thread is about Dawn French dehumanising Israelis. It’s not an invitation to start bleating on about why you hate Israel or not Jews or antisemitism. It’s enough. She’s wrong. You either support her views or you don’t.

Excuse me - what have I said to rattle your cage? I think its shocking from all sides and that I don't understand the politics of it all.

Nevertrustacop · 07/06/2025 10:05

ButterfliesnWaterfalls · 07/06/2025 09:44

That’s exactly how I interpreted it.

She is saying “No” - nothing justifies what is going on in Gaza right now.

Of course that is what she is saying, we get that. But feeling strongly for Palestine suffering is no excuses at all to minimise Oct 7th and Jewish/Israeli suffering.

Sarah2891 · 07/06/2025 10:05

Yes she's vile for saying the Oct 7th attacks were a 'bad thing' in such a mocking tone. What a horrible woman.
