Anyone else appalled and shocked at Dawn French's social media video mocking the reaction to the terror attack in Israel on Oct 6th. What on earth was she thinking ? She comes across as horrible and lacking in any empathy. I feel sorry for the innocent people on both sides of this war, in Palestine and in Israel.

I’ve heard lots of stories about her being not so pleasant, but this is next level. I can see what she was going for, but it’s well and truly missed the mark and comes across as very callous.

Highly suspect that's her cancelled now!

I don't think she does much nowadays except the m&s Christmas ads.

Winterwonders24 · 07/06/2025 18:07

The "apology" is essentially the result of her agent crying down the phone today.

Yeah this. ^ I can't think of anything she's done except the M & S ads for at least 20 years. Maybe she has done things, but I'm not aware of them/don't know what they are. So there's nothing memorable IMO. (Not in the past 20 years anyway...)

Yes that’s what she was saying. But she made her point very distastefully in my opinion. But you do wonder about how some people will leap to their keyboard over distasteful comments, meanwhile Israel purposely blocks aid to starving babies and children. The Israeli government is commiting an ongoing atrocity in Gaza which in recent months has even its staunch Western allies reaching for the sick bucket. So yes normal people will express their feelings on that and unfortunately not all of that comment will be peasant or joined up/logical/productive.

Edited

You do realise that aid doesn't go to starving babies and children? It goes to Hamas who stock pile it and sell what they don't want to the Palestines. Hamas aren't starving 🤷‍♀️ they don't care about the people, that's why they hide under schools and hospitals.

This.

Why do people go on about Israel when it is those fat terrorists hamas starving their own people.

Celebs should be ranting about and mocking hamas not Israel.

I've always liked her and admired her work.

I think I understand what she was trying to say. Blaming those at the top of both organisations for perpetuating the violence begun by Hamas.

She expressed herself very badly, she's usually more articulate.

This entirely.

"she will be cancelled"

Why? Why can't an individual express an opinion without people trying to wreck her career?

100% agree

Foxhasbigsocks · 07/06/2025 18:48

This poor Thai hostage and his poor wife and nine year old son. So cruel and terrible.

It's the Guardian. The Guardian makes up news to fit the Guardian's agenda. Only yesterday they published an article saying that the EHRC was taking away trans peoples' rights. Trans people never had any special rights. They haven't lost any rights. They have exactly the same rights as you or me. Why would you imagine they're any more accurate and less biassed on Israel-Palestine?

Gymnopedie · 07/06/2025 19:04

"THEY were my target, but clearly I failed to do that, and that's on me. I apologise unreservedly, and I'm particularly sorry that my disgust at Hamas didn't figure. It appeared one-sided and that is wrong."

It appeared one sided? You are disgusted at Hamas but you didn't show it? That 'apology' must be the understatement of the year. Along with a good helping of backpedalling.

The truth is that this conflict could go on forever because neither side will rest until they control the whole land.

Yes that’s absolutely true if you take the word of the IDF as gospel - which of course isn’t entirely a good idea given they’ve been caught saying absolute whoppers dozens of times.

Upsetdsting · 07/06/2025 14:19

Does anyone have a recording of it
she’s taken it down and issued an apology

Sadly for Dawn, her taking it makes no difference, as it is all over the internet and will be for all time.

Stupid twat-indeed I believe she has called herself a twat in the title of her badly written book. What a prophet!

I sincerely hope that any firm that is thinking of employing her for an advert-finds this horrible tape surfacing and creating such a stink that she is swiftly dropped.

Actions, dear Dawn, have consequences: something you might want to ponder in a personal and wider context.

I've seen the fat terrorists wirh my own eyes, they are not starving. The gazans should be ousting them. Why aren't they?

Misorchid · 07/06/2025 19:17

For some reason I have never liked Dawn French. One of those real dislikes you can’t explain.
Maybe I was on to something…

Firstly I’d be interested to know how many pictures of armed Hamas you’ve seen on TV the past few months. I doubt you’ve seen more than a few if that. Enough to make generalisations? Secondly I’d imagine if they are armed Hamas members, presumably they are in conflict situations, and so yes, it would be normal for an armed force to be prioritised for a meal or two a day. Third even if Hamas members are starving, they would likely be taking pains to disguise this reality from any international media as they’d want to appear as strong even if they aren’t. And also from their own population for the same reason. I mean I could go on but your point is such obvious nonsense I can’t be arsed to waste any more energy on it. “Some people in the city are getting fed, so let’s blame them for the totally inadequate food supply, rather than the occupying force purposely blockading the city and stopping food and medicine getting in!” Blizzare reasoning, utterly bizarre.

Some have tried and were tortured and murdered. You may have missed it though as it didn't get much coverage, and as far as I'm aware there were no marches, no vigils and no celebrities leaping onto soapboxes to express their horror at hamas.

Possibly because the elected politicians of the Israeli people have made their lives hell for decades upon decade and the occupation has taken much of their dignity. So yes I’m sure many of them did feel sad about hearing of the deaths of innocent Israeli civilians, but they’ve had tens of thousands of their own dead to bury and mourn. I’m not sure expecting them to go and observe vigils for the families of the occupiers is entirely reasonable, presuming the occupiers would have even allowed it.

Zero evidence for that statement or that Hamas hide under Hospitals either.

Funny how starvation wasn't an issue when the UN and others were distributing the aid, the starvation came about because Israel blockaded Gaza.

54,000 deaths say you're wrong on both counts.

& yes her video was terrible, taken down now but the damage is done.

Yes which highlights the point hamas are the issue. Let's see celebs saying NO to them but nope, it's always Israel's fault for retaliating.
I'm sure there's more than 'some' who could oust hamas if the majority wanted to.
