I’d forgotten about Sara Lee gateaux, I adored those! BHS used to do an amazing (to 9 year old me) chocolate gateaux too. Vienetta icecream was the height of sophistication, we’d get a slice of that on a very special occasion (do they still make it?).

Pot noodles with lashings of cheap white bread and margarine
Crispy pancakes
Fray Bentos
Super Noodles
Sunny D
Toast Toppers
Microwave fries (we couldn't afford a microwave so these were a mega treat when going to my friend's house for tea)
Vienetta, when it was the height of sophistication for pudding
Nesquik
Vesta noodles
Those frozen pizzas that were something like 10 for £1
There was a frozen pie variety that came in a green bag. I'd have one of those in a sandwich.
Knorr powdered soup - a Saturday treat shared between three of us with lots of bread

I wouldn't eat/drink any of these things now and I've struggled with my weight all my life, which I think the above seriously impacted. My mum didn't cook, she was often too poorly to serve up more than a plate of beige. She still doesn't cook and she has varying levels of food aversions depending on which side of the bed she got up from that day. Going to my dad's once a week was probably the healthiest I ate all week as he and my step mum cooked from scratch. Sad, but my diet is reflective of that of a lot of us from that era.

My mum still buys Vienetta for special occasions. We laugh about how we used to consider it posh and expensive, when it's relatively cheap these days!

Weight watchers ham and mushroom tagliatelle
Birds Eye potato crunchies
Mueller fruit corner
Pret

I used to love weight watchers ham and mushroom tagliatelle! But I've never been in pret it always looked too expensive.

I'm pregnant and recently had a craving for chicken Super Noodles - my brother and I ate them constantly as 90s kids. They were shite! They've taken all the salt/sugar/E number goodness out of them!

DelilahBucket · 01/06/2025 22:46

I've also just remembered Birds Eye potato waffles and cheese sandwiches! Tried to recreate this a couple of years ago, it really wasn't the same!
