She also found jarred pesto which was always quite fusty, I remember, so that became a staple dinner for me as I was veggie.
Unless it's specifically a Vegan/veggie one, most jarred pesto isn't veggie. As I realised after id been feeding it to my veggie child for years Blush

Indeed - because of the Parmesan I guess.
I always ate cheese despite the rennet. I don’t remember ever being called out on it and most my veggie friends now eat cheese x

(I’m not veggie now btw )

treesocks23 · 30/05/2025 21:49

Crispy pancakes
Micro chips

Lindajonesjustcantlivemylife · 30/05/2025 21:51

Fair enough, just thought I'd check in case you hadn't realised. Like me! Luckily my son didn't care!

hyggetyggedotorg · 30/05/2025 21:54

Oh wow. So many memories!

I’ll go with foods I haven’t bought since I left home in 1996 instead 😂.

Bernard Matthew’s Turkey Roast (a round thing).
Cheese Hamwiches.
Chicken Kiev.
Boil in the bag fish in parsley sauce.

Lindajonesjustcantlivemylife · 30/05/2025 21:54

Well you know now👮😁

Icecreamhelps · 30/05/2025 21:55

Vienetta and artic roll.

Titsywoo · 30/05/2025 21:57

I used to love Sainsburys tuna pasta ready meal in the 90s with loads of ketchup

Whenever we were hungover (every weekend) me and whichever friend had stayed over would make amazing freezer food fry ups. Potato waffles, mini kievs, baked beans etc.

gillefc82 · 30/05/2025 21:57

On a Saturday evening for tea from 1993-1995, I loved having bacon flavour super noodles with two frozen breaded chicken burgers from Tesco that had a topping (on the burger but inside the breadcrumbs if that made sense) that was bits of ham in a creamy sauce. FIT! I’ve looked for them since and have never been able to find them. Even chicken kievs are ham and cheese, rather than the creamy sauce. Gutted.

Also have an embarrassing story about Virgin Cola. Late 90s, I was 16/17, dating my first proper boyfriend and we were sexually active. One Friday, I was really unwell with an ear infection. I’d been to the doctor and they’d prescribed antibiotics and I was also due my next pack of contraceptive pills so both were on the prescription. The medication wasn’t ready for me to collect from the chemist immediately and I felt like crap so instead of waiting, I’d gone home and planned to walk back round later that afternoon to collect them. For some reason, and unusually, my Dad was off work that day and he insisted (despite my vociferous objections) on driving round to collect them for me.

So he collects them, gets back home and quietly asks me to join him in the kitchen, where he proceeds to pass on the advice given by the pharmacist about the additional precautions I’ll need to take during sex whilst on these antibiotics. I sheepishly thanked him and hoped that would be that.

However, my Dad is a typical Scouser, so every weekend, for months afterwards, when arriving home from doing the supermarket shop, he’d take great delight in explaining to the household that Asda was out of x brand of cola, so he’d had to buy Virgin Cola…and what a shame it was that I couldn’t drink it….cringe!

Was Tab Coke (the clear one?) in the 90s or was that early 00s?

Loki64 · 30/05/2025 21:59

Twizzlers

sloanesq · 30/05/2025 22:00

I’d forgotten about frufoo yogurts!!!
My favourite after school snack in the 90s was chicken super noodles on cheap white bread (toast with marg on).
Calippo shots
Pink shrimps and giant blue dolphin gummy sweets
Microchips or fries2go
Heinz sandwich spread with the bits of carrot in
Pringles in their own little mini box

boopthatdog · 30/05/2025 22:00

BCBird · 30/05/2025 20:49

I used to eat Beanfeast when I was at uni- grim now. Loved fishfinger, mash and beans too. Loved chicken and bacon crispy pancakes. Would not touch any of these now😂

They don't make Beanfeast anymore

Pizza Fingers
Sweet and Sour Supernoodles (also not made anymore!)
Micro pizza/chips/wedges

What's wrong with you lot, are you all unable to imagine that time existed before the nineties ? And so did all of these foods, Yes, all of them. You are all so confused , or just lacking in self awareness.

Oh God. Lauren is back 😂Why did you change your name?

OP posts:
Jux · 30/05/2025 22:04

Well, I suppose it’s not technically FROM the 00s but I did invent it then….
I give, Ladies and Gentlemen (drumroll)

DEEP FRIED BATTERED CORNED BEEF

Try to best it. You can’t.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 30/05/2025 22:05

Dm only served smash as a child. First time I had home made mashed potatoes I was astonished that you could make them with actual potatoes.

It says a lot about her willingness to cook that the electric hand whisk she had as a wedding present broke this year at 50yo. I took it with me when I left home in 1999. It wasn't sturdy it just wasn’t used much between 1975 and 1999.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 30/05/2025 22:06

Sosorrylaurenson · 30/05/2025 21:43

Well that could be ANYTHING then , couldn't it ? Why even mention the 90s , it's got nothing to do with the nineties, just because she is unaware of the existence of stuff before she ate it does not mean it didn't exist... yeah, pot noodle and jelly was invented just for you.

Lordy. Because she remembers eating it (and probably it being popular) in the 90s. I expect there are things I remember eating in the 80s and associate with the 80s which <gasp> may have been eaten in the late 70s!

ThereIsACatOnMyLapAgain · 30/05/2025 22:09

My favoirite childhood tea...

Beef* burgers in gravy in a tin. You boiled the tin in water. Served with home made chips that went soggy in the gravy.

Followed by an odd banana flavoured mouse/custard/angel delight type powder that you added water to and sprinkled biscuit powder over the top.

*God knows what they actually were. I doubt they were beef!

Denimrules · 30/05/2025 22:09

ThisCraftyHelper · 30/05/2025 20:11

Skips!! Haven’t had them for at least 20 years I’d say

M and S do their own version but I think they are somehow not very Marks because during their current supply crisis they seem to be one of the few crisp/snacks varieties in stock

RitaFromThePitCanteen · 30/05/2025 22:09

Chicken Tonight sauces! And the bloody annoying advert.

Sandwich spread.

Luminous Panda Pops.

ThereIsACatOnMyLapAgain · 30/05/2025 22:10

Fray bentos pies.

UPF central with delicious soggy pastry.

Alas, I am vegan now.

TelephoneWires · 30/05/2025 22:10

Ooh lots of memories here

loved microchips, iced magic and vesta ready meals

There was a pizza that you were supposed to fry and then grill - don’t think any shop bought pizza has been as good since

I remember a toffee/caramel flavoured ice cream that was multicoloured.

And I used to eat haunted house pasta where my kids now have peppa pig pasta.

semolina from a packet of powder

Sosorrylaurenson · 30/05/2025 21:26

No...it says "favourite crap food from the 90's"
FROM...FROM ...the nineties. None of these foods are from the nineties. Learn to read @feelingbleh .

Lauren, I technically didn’t say food that was invented in the 90s. But really who cares? It’s a silly thread that people are commenting on. It really isn’t that deep. But for some reason you’ve took offence to it and been pretty rude to a few people, swearing and telling them they are thickos. Why don’t you join in?

I will mourn their loss until the end of my days 💔
