Really M&S !!!

Bransdalelass · 29/05/2025 16:37

Have felt incredibly supportive of M&S through their Cyber incident.

Despite the lack of stock in store for weeks now, my account details being compromised, my M&S credit card (only ever used in M&S or on their website) being used fraudulently and the poor communication, I have remained totally loyal.

Until today !!!

I am shocked at the numerous, price increases across the Foodhall. Fish Pie up from £6 to £7. Prawn Thermidor a similar increase, 10p a loaf on my normal bread, Blueberries up by 25p etc.etc.

I am shocked that they are clearly planning to pass all their losses onto their customers in this way and even more shocked that they are doing it whilst we are still having to cope with their ongoing stock shortages etc.

Am I alone in feeling aggrieved? I feel quite strongly that the losses caused by this incident should be borne by their reserves & shareholders.

Regardless, my shopping next week will be with Waitrose, Sainsburys or Aldi. All stores within 1/2 mile of M&S. This customer will not be returning and their loss will not just be my regular food shop, but also the cosmetics, clothes etc I have historically always picked up in-store at the same time.

I think pp are right food prices are going up everywhere.

Mistyglade · 29/05/2025 18:45

I noticed my usual groceries in Tesco have all gone up, extra 30p on apple juice, own brand sourfaux 30 up etc. Who am I’m to disrupt their £2billion annual profit though.

AliBaliBee1234 · 29/05/2025 18:45

I think prices are going to go up in general to cover the NI increase

I work for a food company. M&S increases have nothing to do with the cyber attacks!!

Exactly!!! Prices are going up everywhere!!! Even my Aldi food shop isn’t cheap any more.

Thank you OP, your sentiments mirror mine. I shopped in M&S food hall today and I too was shocked at the obvious price hikes. I believe M&S no longer have the best interests of their customers at heart. Moving forward I will not be shopping there either.

Since when did any large retailer have their customers at heart? They exist for profit margins and shareholders. To think anything else is spectacularly naive. The same will apply in all shops, so you had best grow your own food and sew your own clothes.

the80sweregreat · 29/05/2025 18:47

Yep, I’m sure that if we never had to see another ad with a slowed down version of an old 90s hit at Christmas nobody would actually miss it!
Instead they pass it on to the customer or reduce staff / hours , because they can

tipsyraven · 29/05/2025 18:48

Nah, it’s not just M&S, food inflation is high at the moment. I did a medium shop in Aldi the other day and was shocked by the cost. I’m having to be much more savvy these days.

UpMyself · 29/05/2025 18:48

@Bransdalelass , I don't shop at M&S normally (nearest one is too far) but every time I go to my local Tesco or Aldi, prices seem to have gone up.

MyKingdomForACat · 29/05/2025 18:50

Love M and S but boooo!

TimeForATerf · 29/05/2025 18:52

Well I spent £90 in Lidl today and I only went in for milk and veg. And I forgot the bloody milk. No meat at all, I did get two bottles of Cote De Provence and a geranium, but ninety fucking quid on very little else.

I’ll take my chances with M&S.

According to many news sites he's having a 1.1 million hit on his wages. You want sackcloth and ashes too?

Edited

That would be nice, and maybe also a designated 'slap week' during which any customer willing to travel to M&S HQ should be allowed to give him a really hard slap for a) failing to keep their data safe b) lying about the data breach and c) not having it sorted by now.

Snorlaxo · 29/05/2025 18:55

Of course they are going to recoup losses from customers. The people are the top often have share options as part of their salary so will be “punished” that way.

Last month NI increased, utilities keep on increasing and if they rent store space then that probably went up too.

I don’t shop at M&S but food inflation in other shops is also continuing to increase but I suspect that instability because or Trump as well as the war in Ukraine still continuing will not be helping.

DonningMyHardHat · 29/05/2025 18:59

World’s tiniest violin…

the80sweregreat · 29/05/2025 19:00

I thought that President Trump was going to sort out Ukraine and its ongoing problems within 24 hours , but that didn’t happen ( of course not ) and food prices are still on the up. The cyber attack is a huge blow to M and S , but do they not have any type of insurance for this type of thing??
A lot of the problems are due to the NI increases and having to keep the share holders happy too.
It’s the rest of us that suffer though.

Tbf I’ve not forgiven them for shutting the only remaining dept store in our large town. (>300k). Council begged them not to knowing that it would have a huge effect on the rest of retail here but essentially it’s just about profits like others have said. Have even shafted the council over the building which is still stood there, empty after two years.

exactly.

then the advertising on that tv channel put me off even more. Have actively chosen other supermarkets since.

It’s all gone up again. Something I have bought for ages from Aldi for 75p, then 79p is now 99p. I’m not buying it again as I can get a branded item for not much more that I prefer. At 79p it was good value, at 99p it isn’t.

This is just one of the examples that I noticed on the last shop, but most things were up. I bet it is not just M&S.

It's not. I shop online '&fue to health issues I have quite a limited diet ,so biyuchvyge sane each week. A number of things have gone up this week - noticeably @ it's not M&S/Ocado.

2025ismybestyear · 29/05/2025 19:02

Does anyone know when online orders wills be taken again please?

CountryMouse22 · 29/05/2025 19:03

"Regardless, my shopping next week will be with Waitrose, Sainsburys or Aldi."

Don't bother with Waitrose. They have become more expensive than M&S, if not more.

littlesilkworm · 29/05/2025 19:05

yes, and there are hardly any sparks offers. The box of chocolate I like went from £15 to £18 now its £20 within one year. Asian meal deal went from £10 to £15.... I used to buy Thai prawn curry and I remember counted there was usually 11-13 prawns I was amazed by the vaule £4.25 at the time, now its all gone. Not only you pay more but also you can get less and poorer quality. However Tesco and Asda are the same, before they used to be a lot cheaper than M&S so for similar products I used to buy from them, but now the diffrrence in prices arent that different, I find myself shopping at M&S more.

wizzbitt · 29/05/2025 19:05

The grated cheese annoys me. Same price but much smaller pack! Do they think we won’t notice?!

lighteningthequeen · 29/05/2025 19:07

I can pass no comment on the prices in the foodhall because there isn’t one near me, but I desperately need new knickers so wish the online orders would open again 😅

Coffeeishot · 29/05/2025 19:07

Oh I.bought grated Italian hard cheese and it was down to a 75g bag it had previously been 100g.

rhubarb007 · 29/05/2025 19:09

Issue is most likely caused by April NI rises and minimum wage rises.
I moticed price hike at Ocado and Waitrose too.
