Is anyone else boycotting Eurovision?

Usually love watching Eurovision but will not watch it this year due to Israel being allowed to compete. I don’t understand how Israel are allowed to compete but not Russia (not that I’d agree with them competing either) so sadly, we won’t be watching it. Is anyone else boycotting it?

@Roseandviolin

'Just rename the contest to Europity'

were you referring to Ukraine in 2022...

Well if Australia can compete then so can Israel? I don’t personally think non-Euro countries should be able to but that’s just me.

Wouldn't that include the UK now?

The posters last Holocaust-inversion post was deleted so they're trying again.

Thanks

We love Eurovision but won’t be watching this year because my son passed away and it won’t be the same without him. These “firsts” are painful. We would watch it along with reading Twitter and have such a laugh. I miss laughing with him.

We are still in Europe or do you think we are in another continent now.

I am sorry for your loss 💐. The firsts are painful. I hope that one day you will be able to watch it again, and remember him and laugh again.

I’m so sorryFlowers I lost my sister when we were in our twenties and had a few years of not being able to watch Eurovision or period dramas as that was our thing.

I will be watching it and voting for Israel. Their singer was at the Nova festival and almost killed on October 7th. The hatred she is facing now and the risks to her life absolutely disgust me.

I don't watch Eurovision but totally agree. Voting will be interesting.

BeethovenNinth · 15/05/2025 07:32

I hate Eurovision but why is it the fault of the Israelis? Many of them don’t support what is happening either

SwanOfThoseThings · 15/05/2025 07:53

I'm not boycotting it, but I can't be arsed with it this year. Tired of the same old mediocre songs with all the emphasis on flashy staging which doesn't excite me at all. If they went back to basics and just had them all singing on a simple stage I might watch it.

EveryDayisFriday · 15/05/2025 07:58

Not for any other reason than I don't pay for the licence fee so I don't get to watch Eurovision or Strictly.

So silly to ‘boycott’ because Israel is only defending their own. I won’t watch it simply because it’s a crap singing contest.

Well they came second in the public vote last year...

Looking at my notes from a few weeks ago, I currently have Israel in top spot (along with Luxembourg and NL).

Seamond · 15/05/2025 05:22

We are still in Europe or do you think we are in another continent now.

But it's not a contest for European countries. It's a contest for members of the European Broadcasting Union. Many countries compete that are not European, Australia is an associate member of the EBU, and I would have thought that the Uk leaving the EU might have had some effect.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 15/05/2025 08:57

Our entry is utter ass. There seem to be none of the fun ridiculous entries this year (Who the Hell is Edgar was a banger) and I really didn't like the censorship to allow Israel to compete and pretend it was flowers and rainbows last year.

Plus the "won't watch but will be voting for Israel" brigade are going to make it a farce as well - if we're doing voting based on backstories delivered with a morose tune I think Simon Cowell cornered that market... so meh - I'm not going to be rushing to watch it.

I'll watch the Father Ted episode instead and worry about that sax solo.

Agree, they killed every aboriginal on Tasmania.
I’m going to watch the results, only bit I enjoy. But this year I’m going to vote for Israel.

I'm sorry what - it was the English invaders that did that.

HarryVanderspeigle · 15/05/2025 09:12

Yes I will still be watching. I would if Russia were in too. It's a singing contest

Just the English? What were the Scots, Irish and Welsh invaders doing at the time?

LilDeVille · 15/05/2025 09:18

MayaPinion · 14/05/2025 19:27

No, I’m not into performative boycotting.

This 😆

Eurovision nor Israel are going to care if Jane from Stockport isn’t tuning in.

You've boycotted the last couple of years then I assume op? So what’s new?

user0707106 · 15/05/2025 09:16

Sorry yes should have said British invaders killed all the Indigenous Australians in Tasmania.

TY78910 · 15/05/2025 09:23

I’m not boycotting as such but not watching as it has become political in recent years and they always claimed not to be. Also I found it odd one of the years where the scoring from the general public gave one result and some other vote trumped and changed it? Just became weird
