Is anyone else boycotting Eurovision?

Usually love watching Eurovision but will not watch it this year due to Israel being allowed to compete. I don’t understand how Israel are allowed to compete but not Russia (not that I’d agree with them competing either) so sadly, we won’t be watching it. Is anyone else boycotting it?

I don't like our entry so won't bother this year

Roseandviolin · 14/05/2025 21:16

It's started in 1948 BTW, not 7th Oct

gerispringer · 14/05/2025 21:18

It’s a silly singing competition, not a UN conference. No one will care or take any notice who is or isn’t watching.

The lack of quality songs and competitors definitely agrees with you😂

BountifulPantry · 14/05/2025 21:22

I get the political issues…

However. It’s Eurovision and therefore compulsory viewing!

OneBadKitty · 14/05/2025 21:25

Boycotting a TV screening of Eurovision will not make a blind bit of difference to the organisers of the competition. Your viewing figure will not even register with them as you are so far removed from any relevance to them it's laughable.

UrbanMonstrosity · 14/05/2025 21:27

I loved it but it’s so vulgar now, I can’t be bothered.
Interesting to see how political it is and seeing people voting for Israel regardless of what they think about the actual song.

I can't boycott it because I have never watched it since the days of Pearl and Teddy Carr

…and a Katie Boyle presenting!

yup!

callmej · 14/05/2025 21:54

I've never watched it and don't intend to start. I will be voting for Israel though.

RedRoss86 · 14/05/2025 21:56

We'll still be watching it.
I've been watching it since I was small & for the past 10 or so years, I would sit with my FIL and watch it.
Then DH started joining in, MIL, kids, in-laws... it's a big night now in our house & we love it.

For those asking about Australia, they were invited as a once off but after that year they got invited back & it's just continued on.

Getagripofyourself · 14/05/2025 21:57

There are 2 sides warring not just one. Both sides have committed atrocities. I am so tired of people only defending palastine as if they never did anything to israel. Yes israel went in too hard after the initial attack. But dont act like palastine are innocent. Babies and children have been killed on both sides and it sickens me altogether. I hate war. It's the common people that suffer for it, not hamas or the israel government. I'm so tired of it all. Those poor people.

Don't @ me. I won't be back.

I think you'll find that Gaza was under Egyptian military rule until 1967.

MrsApplepants · 14/05/2025 21:58

It’s a pile of crap so won’t be watching it for that reason

RedToothBrush · 14/05/2025 21:59

How will boycotting help?

You'd be better to ensure that Israel doesn't get to host it next year because everyone is busy boycotting it...

Brushedcottonpajamas · 14/05/2025 22:14

For the people boycotting please read this piece about the singer and do a bit of research.

It’s one of the highlights of my year. Never fails to shock me. I’m not boycotting it.

Read my earlier post. And read that BBC article about how Jews in Switzerland are being warned not to wear any Jewish or Israeli symbols. Does that sit right with you?

Well, rationing was already in place, so not much butter or coffee and there was less meat available. However, this predates Eurovision, so I expect they were eating well by the time in started, although that would just be West Germany, of course.

What on earth do you mean?

CharlotteStreetW1 · 14/05/2025 22:46

Vitrolinsanity · 14/05/2025 19:43

To be fair, no one ever came second better than Sam Ryder.

France would beg to differ after "Voila" lost out to bloody Maneskin.

I went last year for the fifth time and the atmosphere felt quite toxic (looking at you Bambi Thug...). Afterwards, for the first time since I was spellbound by Dana in 1970, I just thought "I'm out".

I'm not boycotting it but I won't be putting much effort into watching it.

I never imagined I would ever be indifferent to Eurovision 😪
