Honestly, I go to bed early and you're all into a new thread!

The world is getting scarier by the day. At least I have cats.

India didn't pick the best day to sabre rattle...

They certainly did not.

I think I’ll top myself now if you’re right @itsgettingweird.

I really hope I’m wrong though 🤞

Another classic from the Queen of gaffes…

The Tories have said that’s a lie.

Rummly · 07/05/2025 16:40

The Tories have said that’s a lie.

Well they would say that, wouldn't they?

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2025 16:41

Fake news alert according to Badenoch herself

It is a shame a FOI request wouldn't work in this case.

Notonthestairs · 07/05/2025 16:44

odd. Why would an Indian official need to lie about it?

Rummly · 07/05/2025 16:44

PandoraSocks · 07/05/2025 16:41

Well they would say that, wouldn't they?

If it’s a lie, yes.

odd. Why would an Indian official need to lie about it?

No idea.

PandoraSocks · 07/05/2025 16:48

Badenoch better hope no-one accidentally leaves the minutes of her meetings with Indian officials on the train.

Notonthestairs · 07/05/2025 16:48

We’ll see if the Financial Times will stand by their story. Certainly by suggesting the Indian trade officials are lying they’ll need to respond.

PandoraSocks · 07/05/2025 16:52

Rummly · 07/05/2025 16:44

If it’s a lie, yes.

And if it were the truth.

PandoraSocks · 07/05/2025 16:53

Oh, Please someone have the receipts. It would be hilarious.

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2025 17:01

Badenoch didn't raise the deal in PMQs.....

Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg, the Brexiter former business secretary, said on X: “Cheaper food and drink including rice and tea, footwear and clothing thanks to a welcome trade deal with India. Exactly what Brexit promised.”

Bloody hell. JRM actually talking sense. This is what the Brexiteers wanted, yet Farage is whining about it.

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2025 17:15

Badenoch could have taken a lot of credit for that deal rather than attacking it.

odd. Why would an Indian official need to lie about it?

That’s what I’m wondering?

I know Sunak was working g towards a trade deal with India so I imagine the detail is easy to find if you want it.

And no one who works abroad pays tax and NI in both countries. Oh makes no sense. Reciprocal agreements have always existed.

I get not being about with detail of reciprocal agreements - but to pretend it’s not normal is just stupidity.

PandoraSocks · 07/05/2025 18:43

Osborne on LBC saying that the deal us a good one, the NICs agreement nothing new, but Labour should have prepared the ground better in terms of comms. He is right.

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2025 19:43

Did he say what Labour should have done better?

PandoraSocks · 07/05/2025 19:47

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2025 19:43

Did he say what Labour should have done better?

He said they should have explained the NICs aspect better and I think he said something more generally about the comms around the deal, but I didn't catch all of the interview with him.

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2025 19:56

But NIC's have never been reported as part of a deal, so he is saying Labour should have appeased Reflux?

I don't think it would have mattered.
