Cate Blanchett for me; Blue Jasmine, Carol, Veronica Guerin, Notes on a Scandal… I could go on but I think that she’s just phenomenal. Who would you pick?☺️

Anthony Hopkins

Alison Steadman, Gary Oldman

Timothy Chalamet is surprisingly good.

Those are film actors, so a different kind of acting required. Stage acting, both David Tennant and Simon Russell Beale. Film/tv acting- Mark Rylance

Hoplolly · 04/05/2025 09:07

I don't particularly like him but would agree with David Tennant. I've seen him in a few things and surprised at his versatility.

Bill Nighy for me.

MeltonInTheHeat · 04/05/2025 09:07

Gary Oldman. My favourite film of his is still Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Never fails to make me laugh.

Mind you he is delightfully menacing in Air Force One.

frozendaisy · 04/05/2025 09:07

Gary Oldman

WinteringTheStorm · 04/05/2025 09:09

Mark Rylance.

frozendaisy · 04/05/2025 09:10

female Helena Bonham Carter

Coffeeishot · 04/05/2025 09:10

I think Jason issacs is underrated, I enjoy most of the things he's in.

I also love Bill Nighy.

Tooty78 · 04/05/2025 09:16

Gary Oldman, his portrayal of Winston Churchill in 'Darkest Hour' was sublime.

EducatingArti · 04/05/2025 09:20

Judy Dench

I think this is an impossible question to answer.

I've not even heard of a lot of modern day actors and for I know they might be wonderful and outstanding.

Even of the actors I am familiar with there are so many that are very talented and whose work I love to watch that I couldn't rank them as best, second best etc.

It's like the Classic Fm Hall of fame vote: impossible out of all the classical music available to narrow it down to 3 pieces.

SeanMean · 04/05/2025 09:27

Daniel Day Lewis

Marylou2 · 04/05/2025 09:32

Male, Ralph Fiennes or Gary Oldman. Female Olivia Coleman or Sarah Lancashire.

Ohisitjustme · 04/05/2025 09:33

Daniel Day Lewis. He becomes his character.
Meryl Streep

Watchwatchmymysteedsteedgogofarfar · 04/05/2025 09:36

Jim Carrey!!

zaxxon · 04/05/2025 09:38

Can't agree on Bill Nighy. No matter who he's playing, he always still seems like Bill Nighy.

I'd say Sophie Okonedo

tramtracks · 04/05/2025 09:50

Gary Oldman. Lesley Manville (especially in ‘Mum’)

(coincidentally they used to be married to each other)

Yes! I still love him though 😍

waltzingparrot · 04/05/2025 09:54

There's so many great actors but I've loved everything I've watched that has Toby Jones in it. I think it's because he's a cut above as an actor.

Sillygooose · 04/05/2025 09:57

Jack O'Connell and Kate Winslet

Bridestone · 04/05/2025 09:58

Simon Russell Beale, Harriet Walter, Alex Jennings, Olwen Foueré, Eileen Walsh. Can’t choose between them.

RoadtoVima · 04/05/2025 09:59

Another vote for Gary Oldman. Joaquin Phoenix is also someone I find mesmerizing in every role.

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 04/05/2025 10:01

Ralph Finnes
