Cate Blanchett for me; Blue Jasmine, Carol, Veronica Guerin, Notes on a Scandal… I could go on but I think that she’s just phenomenal. Who would you pick?☺️

Oh absolutely Jodie. She is incredible. If anyone gets the chance to see her on stage for Primary Facie...it's mind blowing. Thanks Ripley, I would have her at the top of my list. She's wonderful.

sorry for typos 🙈

Gary Oldman and Stephen Graham get my votes.

@mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork I'm glad someone said that about Hugh Grant, I think he's fantastic. Just typecast for far to long in Richard Curtis movies.

It’s the grand Budapest hotel for me

I laughed so hard at that film. The bit on the snowy cliff.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 04/05/2025 12:35

Cate Blanchett and Ralph Fiennes. Both incredibly versatile. But I think Cate Blanchett is exceptional.

Wacqui · 04/05/2025 12:37

Andrea Riseborough for me. She's electric on screen and so versatile. She expresses so much vulnerability and strength at the same time. I think she's amazing.

I think personally he is possibly the most genuinely talented - especially as a disturbing character.

There’s a lightness of touch that can be overlooked when you see him in things like Paddington and stuttering through Four Weddings in more obvious roles.

But very versatile.

ManyATrueWord · 04/05/2025 12:50

Olivia Coleman
Alan Cummings
Colin Firth

-because I saw them in different things and didn't twig they were the same person

But top of my list is Dame Judi Dench. Billy Connolly talked about how her acting in Mrs Brown had him thinking she really had fallen for him - until he pulled himself up and realised she really is that good.

@Calliopespa I loved him in Cloud Atlas.

I love Robert De Niro.

Oh yes he’s great. He was actually very good in something with Anne Hathaway ( The Intern?). Not sure it was a great movie per se but he was great.

Definitelysometime · 04/05/2025 13:23

I’d throw Eddie redmayne into the mix after watching the day of the jackal, he was superb

EveryDayisFriday · 04/05/2025 13:28

Michael Sheen has played Tony Blair, Brian Clough and I love him in Bright Young Things. I think he is an amazing character actor.

EveryDayisFriday · 04/05/2025 13:31

Tom Hardy as Alfie Solomons is incredible.

Gary Oldman and Cillian Murphy are excellent.

I love Florence Pugh, not seen her in a lot but she shines on screen. Viola Davis is fantastic.

EveryDayisFriday · 04/05/2025 13:32

James McAvoy in Split was outstanding

Watchwatchmymysteedsteedgogofarfar · 04/05/2025 09:36

Jim Carrey!!

He only really plays himself though really, doesn't he? Bit like David Jason and Tom Hanks (and Dustin Hoffman to a certain extent).

NicolaCasanova · 04/05/2025 13:34

Mark Rylance

MummytoE · 04/05/2025 13:34

Stephan Graham and mark Rylance

needastrongoneagain · 04/05/2025 13:39

I really liked that movie. It made me wish for a kindly nurturing father figure. It's like a comfort watch.
