The congratulatory messages are in from Macron, Zelenskyy, Starmer and von der Leyen.
From Cheeto Corleone not a dickie bird yet.
I can't wait to see what he'll say. Or will he explode in an attempt to not look like, well, a loser? 😂

PickAChew · 29/04/2025 12:25

There's a lot in Carney 's speech that Trump will take personally. He will be simmering and ready for a big strop.

Yes, there really was. Hard to say what the Cheating Cheeto will do. I'm not on Truth Social, but has he not yet fired off any 'truths' during his morning toilet session?

Nothing so far. Did it come up in the White Hpuae briefing?

It would be so shit if they missed out on a majority by 4 seats!

At points it looked like they were going to miss by more than that. At least they can form a government with the NDP or BQ, and the Conservatives couldn’t even with the Bloc. They came from 25 points behind so it’s nothing short of miraculous.

Now poor Carney has to walk a tightrope for 4 years. I don’t envy him. Man clearly hates being bored!

Hopefully they will all learn that Canadians are typically small-c fiscally conservative and small-l socially liberal. Anyone lurching too much to either side finds out.

From the BBC news website:

Trump team blast reports suggesting Amazon will display tariff costs for consumerspublished at 14:10

A question now about reports Amazon will soon display how much the Trump tariffs are adding to the cost of each product.
Leavitt steps in, saying she just got off the phone with the president, who was talking about this.
"This is a hostile and political act by Amazon," she says.
She holds up what appears to be a print out of a news article with a large picture of Amazon owner Jeff Bezos, and she claims it shows Amazon is partnered with a "Chinese propaganda arm".

And there was me thinking Jeff was a friend of 🍊
Oh dear.

He's probably been given some extra special cheerios for his day 100 celebration breakfast before they break the news to him.

Congratulations Canada!

I know they don't have the 'majority', but Carney will be the PM, right?

logicisall · 29/04/2025 16:19

I predict that in the next 24hrs Trump will do something revengeful as he is impelled by his ego, to show that he is boss and not affected in any way by the result of elections in canada.

He won't be able to control himself and be gracious. I'm on tenterhooks to see what abomination he's going to come out with.

Obviously the election has been rigged.

I can easily see this pushing Trump to simply run the US based on his world view - so effectively ignoring elected leaders and deciding he will deal with the "real" leader in a country.

I would suggest folk in the UK get used to the idea that Trump could simply say from now on he's dealing with Kemi and Nigel as the people who should be ruling the UK if it weren't for our rigged elections and lack of free speech.

So, Sir Keir Starmer could just refuse to talk to Trump and deal only with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, as they should have been elected as Trump is a convicted felon?

The problem is the UK<->US relationship is asymmetric.

So my question remains - how could the world deal with this possible situation ?

People who like their history will know that this isn't a novel possibility. Especially if you are English you should know that for a few decades, the Pope in their role as master of the universe refused to deal with the legitimate Monarchs of England for a while.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 29/04/2025 17:29

"The problem is the UK<->US relationship is asymmetric."
True. The whole world is topsy-turvy as far as I’m concerned.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 29/04/2025 17:53

I've just seen this. Sad. Bigly sad.

But tariffs are a good thing paid by the other country so what is the problem? Surely they should be happy for Amazon to show the customers their amazing tariff policy.

JoshLymanSwagger · 29/04/2025 19:16

Can anyone honestly say they'd trust 🍊 with £10000 of their savings?
I wouldn't trust him to mow my lawn - he'd probably cover it in petrol and chuck a match on it. 🔥

DuncinToffee · 29/04/2025 19:19

Amazon is already backpedalling, apparently Trump phoned Bezos to complain

Think he's planning to stand on the shore of Lake Superior (or Huron) with arms akimbo, stomp his feet, and shout across the water "You guys are LOSERS!!!. Your election was RIGGED!!! Nyah nyah nyah!"
