Trump has been obsessed with tariffs since the 80s apparently, and I know he's gone on about how they made America really successful in 1913 so they will make it really successful if used now. Even if that were true in 1913... uh, the context of the entirely world and the demography of America is, you know, completely different to over 100 years ago? And he's just chucking an economy that was doing fine, thanks, down the toilet. What a twat.

I don't think Trump's driving most of the things that are happening - the tech bros and oligarchs are just chucking stuff in front of him they know he'll like and he's signing it, but the tariffs are like 'OK, grandpa, if it makes you happy, you can have your tariffs'.

They know it'll crock the economy, but oligarchs like that as, even though it makes a (to them) unnoticable dent in their billions, it allows them to purchase lots of assets at rock bottom prices and come out even richer.
