Thread filling up fast now. Are we going with a Pope theme or a VE Day theme for the next round?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 03/05/2025 09:24

No need to wait for the white smoke from St Peter’s Square, just light a fire under Trump.

Is all I can think of on the spur of the moment, @CaveMum

Excellent! Or, perhaps, “Don’t Panic, Mr Mainwaring.” (Although to be fair, it’s too late for that now.)

You just can't make this up. I am speechless. just going to bleach my eyes out!

How do we live in a world where this is:
A) real
B) not headline news

I know that’s a rhetorical question, but is it something to do with the “Overton Window”? (The Overton Window is a concept I have trouble grasping, hence this question.)

I got this from the Ukraine thread

Rubio publicly criticizing an ally for cracking down on right-wing extremism. And Germany hitting back. We are in a new world

Sly, devious, slippery, slimy, egotistical, selfish, manipulative, self-interested, unempathetic, obnoxious, monstrous, outrageous, unpleasant, snolllygoster, and cockwomble are all words I would happily apply to the man

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom You know you won't get around him with flattery...🤢

I think everyone round the table yesterday did that for him 😂 I couldn’t believe the amount of sucking up going on. Do they hear themselves?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 03/05/2025 11:05

I love the German Foreign Office response. But I don’t believe Trump World has any allies these days. There are merely other countries to dictate to, or who dictate to them.

Labor reported to have won the Australian election.

It's telling that in the entire dump of this top-level analysis puff-piece the word "trump" only appears four times, and not once in a context of the reason the conservatives lost. A casual reader would have no idea of the reality.

Knowing the coverage of the Australian elections will be similarly slanted, folk could save their time. There's grass that needs cutting.

This White House is made up entirely of unserious, juvenile, amateur, loathsome trolls with no understanding of the role with which it was trusted.

JoshLymanSwagger · 03/05/2025 13:45

@CaveMum how about "The finest muffins and bagels in all Gilead"?

or "Oh, Canada. Not number 51 yet"

Vance (The Blue-Eyed Wunderkind) has made some comments about the Berlin Wall - so maybe "the War" should be mentioned.

MTG criticizing Scrotus??

Hang on a minute, I need to grab my binocs and run outside to check for porcine aviators.

AcrossthePond55 · 03/05/2025 16:36

After that pope picture which I can't believe the WH reposted, I was recalling the past use of the WH's SM. Dignified and informative, humorous (when appropriate) in non offensive ways. If the POTUS needed to push his agenda it was done in a polished and professional manner trying to be as 'neutral' as possible.

Now it looks like something a group of obnoxious Jr High kids is posting on.

Spandauer · 03/05/2025 17:10

A case of "We are not amused ".

Note: This response (below, which is real) to Trump’s tweet depicting himself as pope is from the New York State Catholic Bishops, who represent the collective bishops of the state.

Among them is Cardinal Dolan of NYC, who Trump appointed to his new religious liberty commission this week.

Well said from them. I am not Catholic but I thought it was in extremely bad taste, there are many millions of Catholics all over the world and I would think they are appalled

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 03/05/2025 17:53

Did Vance, the well-known Catholic convert, post it himself to prove his wonderful sense of humour?

Almost makes me want to convert. Imagine the Donald driving people into the arms of Christ the Saviour ?
