What are you spending your Nationwide £50 on?

Those of you who like me have got a free £50 from Nationwide and are fortunate enough to be able to spend it on something frivolous, what are you thinking of spending it on? I’m torn. Possibly perfume. Or something from the folio society. Or jewellery. Or cheese.

Or very expensive whisky.

Cake. Not all at once, but I’ll definitely spend £50 on cakes by summer.

SweetPea201 · 11/04/2025 14:12

I bought a new pair of jeans I had been after for a while 😃 I was saving up via Vinted but it was a surprise to get that text the other day I decided to treat myself!

TomatoSandwiches · 11/04/2025 14:15

It will go towards the goodie hamper I send my mother for Easter.

Heretomorrow · 11/04/2025 14:17

My coffee machine has just died - I'm justifying buying a new one as it will already be £50 less than the asking price 🙂

TheBuffetInspector · 11/04/2025 14:20

Being the stylista that I am... A pair of wide leg jeans and some groceries. From the same store 😂

SpringIsSpringing25 · 11/04/2025 14:21

Oh. I was very boring and just transferred it straight over to my mortgage. Both Nationwide. I try to pay a little bit over every month, and try not to have any month with just the standard repayment amount, so it just seemed a way to chip into that a tiny little bit🤣

QuartzIlikeit · 11/04/2025 14:24

All on books for my kindle - should sort out my summer holiday reading

SpringIsSpringing25 · 11/04/2025 14:25

Cake does seem like a better option!!

I'm doing some rehabilitation at the moment & it's very boring, what's making it a little more bearable as walking into the village and getting a coffee while I'm there, so I'm spending a small fortune on lattes, so I suppose you could say I've spent it on that and the money is still in my debit account is what it's paid the excess on the mortgage 🥴 that makes it feel a little bit better😊. The lattes are around £3.95, I wonder how long I can convince my brain for that Nationwide is paying for my coffee 🤣🤣

Mumteedum · 11/04/2025 14:25

You just reminded me, I am supposed to get this but haven't yet. I think they said they're sending a cheque.

That is very selfless.

But what about our duty to use it to boost the (retail) economy?

I'm taking dd and my dm for dinner tonight 😋

ThirdStorm · 11/04/2025 14:45

I brought a DVD, Amazon have a few vouchers/discounts on so I treated myself to a title I've had on my wishlist for a while for £2.49! Boring as it is, the rest will be saved.

Bluevelvetsofa · 11/04/2025 14:54

Books for the Kindle perhaps.

Or some plants to go in the garden that’s currently being created.

Puppupandaway · 11/04/2025 14:55

I’m going to use it for a family meal out. We usually have a jug of water with our meals but I’ll be splashing out on fizzy drinks for everyone!! We don’t eat out very often so it will be a real treat.

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 11/04/2025 15:06

Already spent on trainers.

IceCreamWoes · 11/04/2025 15:12

Mine hasn't gone into my bank yet and I can't find the letter I got sent. Has everyone had their payment?

Honnomushi · 11/04/2025 15:16

I had a text to confirm payment had been made. I'm buying a special edition set of Robin Hobb books from Illumincrate with it.

jumpintheline · 11/04/2025 15:16

I got the letter, no cheque yet. It’s for our joint mortgage but it was sent to me, not DH. Has anyone been sent £50 each?

Me & my OH got £50 each but we each have a current account.

muddyford · 11/04/2025 15:20

Thinking of a leather-bound edition of one of my favourite books, or a nice bracelet I've been admiring in a local fair trade shop.

muddyford · 11/04/2025 15:22

Or Islay single malt whisky!

TennesseeStella · 11/04/2025 15:22

Unluckily for the retail economy, I'd decided that I was going to cut down my spending for the next few months, so I am saving my free fifty quid. 😇

ThisMustBeMyDream · 11/04/2025 15:22

My wedding this summer - something frivolous for it. Maybe glowsticks. Or a keepsake box. Just something we'd have not got but is nice to have.
