What are you spending your Nationwide £50 on?

Those of you who like me have got a free £50 from Nationwide and are fortunate enough to be able to spend it on something frivolous, what are you thinking of spending it on? I’m torn. Possibly perfume. Or something from the folio society. Or jewellery. Or cheese.

Day out for Ds birthday, he has aways wanted to see Petworth House. So going tomorrow

AnneElliott · 11/04/2025 20:47

We got £50 each and have a joint current account. But we have separate savings accounts with Nationwide as well.

hopefully we’re getting the £100 fair share payment in May as well.

InMySpareTime · 11/04/2025 20:51

One thing to watch if you’re a higher rate taxpayer is that those payments count as interest so go towards the £1000/£500 tax free savings interest limit and might tip you over into paying tax on some interest.

kitchenplans · 11/04/2025 20:53

We have 2 Uni student children (and 2×£50 payments), so we'll be passing it to them, as frankly it's diddly to us, but it will be a welcome bonus to them.

Tarkan · 11/04/2025 20:54

We got £100 as we have a joint account. Our local footy team could win the league tomorrow so if that happens a good chunk of it will probably be spent in the pub as a celebration after the match.

ducksinarow123 · 11/04/2025 20:57

mine has gone into an account that I haven’t used for a good few years, I don’t have online banking and I have no idea where the bank card is either so it may just be sitting there for a long while. When I do eventually get access (I have adhd so I don’t reckon it will be anytime soon) probably books

Auburngal · 11/04/2025 21:01

Nationwide isn't my main bank, its Santander. Opened a savings account which had a current account around 2002. Got a new card (lost), PIN (forgot) and reader (broken) a couple of weeks ago. Surprised on the amount left.

Going to spend my £50 on some gin. Its nice to get things like this when still got no job.

Springhassprungxx · 11/04/2025 21:03

Is this only for current account holders?

No, I've only got a deposit account and I got it.

thecatdidit · 11/04/2025 21:24

@Xmasbaby11 try Groupon for the bowling..
I'm going to spend mine on a new bucket for the log burner ash.

My daughter has an isa with them - will she get it?

You could buy yourself a very fancy tape measure @TinselAngel 😉

I bought breakdown cover from a company recommended on here.

Think I had £2 left to play with!

Differentstarts · 12/04/2025 01:52

We had a takeaway thanks nationwide it was lovely 😋

CherryBlossomPie · 12/04/2025 02:43

Oh I forgot about this! A pot of Garnier Mango Body Butter. No need to force myself to spend it all as I'm in spending less mode, but a tenner treat I can do.

I've been using the Garnier Aloe moisturiser and it's absolutely crap. My skin is so dry. So am going back to the Mango one.

AlloftheTime · 12/04/2025 03:08

Was going to save it but hearing all these lovely ideas I’m going to window shop tomorrow……

There's a leather sling bag I've had my eye on so I might order that. We also got it x 2. Need to check if my kids got it also as they have Nationwide accounts !

2JFDIYOLO · 12/04/2025 09:58

Mine just appeared in my account under The Big Nationwide Thank You.

Northernladdette · 12/04/2025 10:06

I was pleasantly surprised to discover it was £50 each on a joint account 😊

roofingtooting · 12/04/2025 10:19

We have a wedding next weekend so breakfast on the way and drinks later on. We got £100 due to joint account.

BackToRealitySigh · 12/04/2025 20:47

If you have a Hollywood Bowl near you I think they have 50% off over Easter. Can't remember the code but Google will know

SandyY2K · 15/04/2025 00:07

Nationwide is quite special to me. I would never have thought to open an account with them, but many years ago as a teenager, I was in an advert on television and got my nationwide account opened, which is where the payment went.

I opened my kids a nationwide account when they were babies and they continued to bank with them through university and received the £100 in previous years and this £50.

I always use the money on myself..a spa/massage or other self care.

bluejelly · 15/04/2025 03:24

Charity. I’m in the lucky position of not needing it, so planning to share my good luck with someone who does.

LindorDoubleChoc · 15/04/2025 04:44

I just spent a little over £41 on World Of Books and ordered 12 paperbacks in "very good" condition. They are mainly replacements for very old brown/battered favourites that I'm dumping plus some modern classics that I've been meaning to read for years. The remaining £8/9 will get spent at the garden centre.
