What are you spending your Nationwide £50 on?

Those of you who like me have got a free £50 from Nationwide and are fortunate enough to be able to spend it on something frivolous, what are you thinking of spending it on? I’m torn. Possibly perfume. Or something from the folio society. Or jewellery. Or cheese.

Car tax!

Mabiscuit · 11/04/2025 17:51

I already spent it on seeing Swan Lake.

You don’t need to do anything to claim it, it just appears in your account.

Sorry, I meant I can't find any account details etc so need to go into a branch to get account up and running first.

Bertiel33 · 11/04/2025 17:54

It's gone straight to my holiday fund so will probably get spent on two happy meals for the kids at Dalaman airport 🤣
Was quite delighted to get it, i only have a savings account with them and the only transaction I've made in the last year was moving less than a tenner to my main account cos I was very skint.

aveenobambino · 11/04/2025 17:56

Haha good question! I bought my lovely dad lunch with it today. Very much appreciated from nw!

boys3 · 11/04/2025 17:58

An excessive quantity of IKEA meatballs. 😀

SandyY2K · 11/04/2025 17:59

It will go towards my spa trip to Bucharest next month.

I've been with Nationwide for a few decades now.

Justontherightsideofnormal · 11/04/2025 17:59

I got two payments of £50 one in each current account I have with them. I thought it was only one per customer.

Sunrise8888 · 11/04/2025 18:01

I spent part of it on a takeaway, then the other part just sitting in the account

lnks · 11/04/2025 18:02

Phone calls to Nationwide to ask them why their bloody App is never working!

Seeline · 11/04/2025 18:04

I thought it was a cheque? My account is an ISA so will be disappointed if it goes into that as I won't be able to get hold of it easily!

I got the letter, no cheque yet. It’s for our joint mortgage but it was sent to me, not DH. Has anyone been sent £50 each?

Me and DH have a joint mortgage only, we both got letters and both got £50.

Crochetpenguin · 11/04/2025 18:11

Got £100 as have a joint account with dh. Found a nice hotel for a night away on Secret Escapes which we have booked.

I thought it was a scam text! So thank you. I can't find any account details and don't think I've used account since I moved house so I'm going to go into a branch and claim that £50!!

You don't need to claim it, it will go into either the account you hold with them or the account you use to pay your mortgage or failing that a cheque will be sent out but these will be sent later

stargirl1701 · 11/04/2025 18:13

DCs just got it out into their ISAs!

SwimmingFree · 11/04/2025 18:15

I’m heading to Record Store Day early tomorrow in the hopes of treating myself!

DD has a savings account and will be getting a cheque. I have a current account and it just appeared there.

Our family has done very well out of Nationwide, as I have 2 current accounts with them and so got given £100, and the 3 DC each have a junior account so got £50 each, which seems like a fortune to the youngest who has only recently got a bank account. Mine went straight on a food shop for the weekend away by the coast that we have just arrived at. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they’ll do the fair share payment this year too.

Crazyladee · 11/04/2025 19:03

Some nice plants for the garden

BackToRealitySigh · 11/04/2025 19:07

I went frivolous and bought a pair of trainers in Nike Outlet earlier for summer and pink gin with the other £5 - a big thank you to Nationwide for the big thank you

BlackForestCake · 11/04/2025 20:32

Sadly £50 doesn’t go very far in the world of single malt these days, for all those talking about expensive whisky!

CoughItUpLove · 11/04/2025 20:34

Taking the kids to watch the Minecraft movie. Dreading it but they are excited. The thought of popcorn is the only thing keeping me sane.

Mrsgreen100 · 11/04/2025 20:41

nationwide???what is this?
they have allowed fraud on my account
and about to contact the ombudsman

Popfan · 11/04/2025 20:43

You could buy yourself a very fancy tape measure @TinselAngel 😉

But what about our duty to use it to boost the (retail) economy?

We had a duty to use it to boost the economy?!?!

Oh well, if you read my following post, you can see that I'm boosting the local café economy anyway🤣🤣
