Starmer has been posing on an aircraft carrier

The only time he had a reprieve from his free fall approval ratings was when he was doing his action man stint so I wouldn't be surprised if he lives on an aircraft carrier for the next week.

TheNuthatch · 24/04/2025 20:45

@EasternStandard I'm still there, reporting live since 7am. It's been a looong day!

@DancingFerret Thanks for the links, he was spot on wasn't he? The first article is bloody scary though, I don't fancy Starmer the dictator.

Find out now: Labour has dropped another 2% this week, putting them on par with the Tories at 20% voting intention. Reform have now got an 8% lead here over the established parties.

For comparison, this was the voting share at the general election.

They only interviewed just over 2,000 people for that poll so it's not indicative of the UK population as a whole.

They could interview another 2,000 people and get a completely different result.

However, I do think people are fed up of the 2 main parties, ie Tories and Labour.

Upstartled · 25/04/2025 09:00

Yeah, I mean this is true but 2000 is the typical standard, and is the same as YouGov. And it's not so small that you don't see a reliable direction of travel or see the ebbs and flows of intention a week after something significant happening, say after the spring statement.

I've found find out now, at least over the time I've had some interest in this, tends lead where the other polls follow a little later.

Blimey

@2dogsandabudgie pollsters get the method right so they can ask that many people. It’s just how they do it.

2dogsandabudgie · 25/04/2025 10:25

What I have noticed though is that The Sun newspaper which was a Conservative paper but switched their support over to Labour in the run up to the election, have been very unsupportive of Labour since. They have never done that with any party they have supported in the past.

TheNuthatch · 25/04/2025 10:29

Wow, that poll is a shocker. The tories need to sort their shit out.
Have you all seen the photo on the front of today's Telegraph? You'll love it Eastern!

I heard on times radio this morning that Yvetter Cooper is now in favour of the youth mobility scheme. I think she was previously concerned about how it would affect migration figures. Suggestion was that labour are trying to keep it under wraps until after the local elections to stop reform making hay with it.

Edited

TBF to the Sun, Labour have been a total disaster right from the get go. They haven't had much love from the Guardian either.

Farage hit the nail on the head with his "two cheeks of the same arse" comment about Labour and Tories.

Re the 2000 figures, that's pretty standard. As long as it's designed to be representative and unbiased, it'll be pretty reliable. Statisticians know what they're doing. They don't go out at 2pm on a Tuesday to the local Morrisons supermarket and ask the first 2000 people they meet! The 2,000 will be chosen to represent a cross section of society.

That's what I mean, normally The Sun would try and put a positive spin on things with the party they're supporting.

True. I know what you're saying. I just think that Labour have been so unbelievably atrocious, it isn't spinnable, even for the sun. I had a feeling they would regret their decision to back labour at the last moment, but they couldn't back to tories either as they're in a mess. The times played the right card imo, staying neutral.

I think that scheme could be a disaster and would just add to this country's problems at the moment.

What don't you like about it?
I'm worried about implementation as this government seem to be experts in messing things up, but I'm in favour of the concept.

I think the numbers would need to be monitored closely. We already have an acute housing shortage so I feel that would be put under even more strain. I thought Labour were trying to get our young population into work so think they should concentrate on that first before opening our borders again.

How would a Jeremy Corbyn style Labour government have fared? Probably bankrupting the country.

In all honesty, I think I preferred Corbyn. He was/is completely batshit in every way, but at least you knew what he stood for. He stuck to his views and principles.
Starmer doesn't seem to have any views on anything, and his principles change with the weather. He's also doing a good job of bankrupting us. His only passion is power.

Coming back later as some good posts but am in WH Smith checked out the Telegraph I laughed

Thanks for that one @TheNuthatchit’s like he’s upping the ante 😬

EasternStandard · 25/04/2025 12:58

Although he looks like a plonker and @upstartledis right he’s dreaming of an old poll bounce long lost, the worrying part is how much he’d commit to go back there. All this faux war stuff needs to stay as pointless optics and craven politician soundbites only.

The press is interesting @2dogsandabudgiesums up the Sun who backed Labour and now is Britain is Broken headline. The Guardian is up and down. The BBC and Sky feel like the last supporters of Starmer and co.

On trade stuff I can’t stand the drip drip flag flying of what they might do so mostly go past it.

I just read a post on another thread I think we have lurkers as per 😬
