If you can't see a difference between people joining a thread and encouraging people to disrupt another thread for sport then that's your ideological myopia kicking in.

And what about the ones on here who are openly talking about infiltrating other threads with a totally different mindset. Ideological myopia? Get a grip and grow up please.

It was a worrying article. £15bn unexpected overspend, corporation tax is significantly down as business struggles to turn a profit and...the impact of wage rises and ni increases haven't been felt yet. The autumn budget will be another shit show.

Upstartled · 24/04/2025 13:44

Is it any wonder her approval rating has tanked to 14%. I wonder how much lower it will get - it speaks of total evisceration of trust capital between the voting public and Labour's spending policies.

She is completely out of her depth. I shudder to think what new cock ups she'll make in the Autumn Budget when things are even more desperate.

Making such mammoth changes to employers NIC in one go was absolute insanity. Bad enough increasing the rate but also to reduce the starting threshold at the same time is mind-blowingly stupid. She clearly hadn't the faintest idea as to the practicalities nor considered which employers would be hardest hit.

Not to mention the damage to businesses with the inheritance tax changes and punishing business investors with the hikes in CGT rates, especially the business asset disposal relief.

Business confidence overall has tanked because of her which is ironic because her growth was mostly predicted based on business growth! Doh!!

Upstartled · 24/04/2025 13:55

It's crazy, isn't it? It's like she had no idea of the raft of bleeding obvious consequences that she set in motion.

Oof that looks bad.

Not going to focus on below but just generally we all get to choose who to engage with and I’ll stick with the pp I’m here to chat with.

That's just your ideological myopia kicking in. Don't you just love a good old echo chamber! 🙃

EasternStandard · 24/04/2025 14:07

I’m happy with the thread, I feel people need engagement for some reason.

We don’t need to 🤷‍♀️

Ipsos out with new round of favourability ratings.

It's stark reading for the government.

It will be interesting to see how well Reform will do in the local elections.

Upstartled · 24/04/2025 15:43

The one to watch is Co. Durham. Labour lost overall control in 2021, after a century of success, and you might expect them to ping back to Labour - that was the assumption after the g.e.

If Reform do well there, which seems a possibility, then it'll be really significant.

EasternStandard · 24/04/2025 16:04

Labour will get rattled by Reform. You can see it already with the steady drip of policies, the most recent being the crime list by nationality.

Upstartled · 24/04/2025 16:13

Yeah, ever since Labour tried to mimic the Trumpian deportation footage (albeit with willing over-stayers being paid to ship out), it's been clear that they have adopted some of the tone and tactics that chime with reform policy.

SpringerSprockerCocker · 24/04/2025 16:27

So nothing like sending asylum seekers to Rwanda?

TheNuthatch · 24/04/2025 18:04

Evening all. I've had a news free day so just catching up. God, every day is like an episode of yes minister with this lot!
Starmer has been posing on an aircraft carrier, followed by more posing with the Chief Ent. Anything to do with your polling prime minister? Reeves is doing interviews with the Trump media later. I'm sure the MAGA crowd will love her!

Thanks for the heads up on Co.Durham, I'll keep an eye on that one. I'm really hoping to see changes in the conservative party after they get hammered in these elections.

Edited

Excellent synopsis 👏
Add in workers rights reforms, massive borrowing, capital flight, and you have the perfect storm. The next budget is a very scary thought indeed.

Welcome back from Runcorn 😬

I wondered if anyone had seen that photo of Starmer in more kit. I have a feeling @Parsley1234might feel the same as I do about it.

SpringerSprockerCocker · 24/04/2025 20:01

There are much bigger issues to worry about than what Starmer is wearing. I suspect some may have a bit of a fixation on him as he gets so much airspace on here. Quite credible in a forum where J R-M is an object of desire.

DancingFerret · 24/04/2025 20:11

The Daily Mail is a clickbait rag, IMO, but they do have one or two intelligent columnists, e.g., Peter Hitchens. These are links to two of his very prescient columns written before last year's General Election, where he issued dire warnings about KS and his gang of incompetents and implored the public not to put them in power. He doesn't strike me as the sort to crow; I imagine he's holding his head in his hands along with the rest of us who were pretty sure we could see the writing on the wall and hoped against hope our fears were unfounded.
