I've just had the nastiest April fool whatsoever

Friend is on here but I'm sure she can cope with me being 'public'. And hello, my darling!

But phone went off middle of the night telling me childhood friend had died. Turns out this is nonsense. Isn't that a really cruel thing to do to someone? I was throwing up. I'm not sure what I'd gain from posting here just a bit of feather soothing and 'relax'. I don't want anyone to say they deserve a kicking I just think that was a horrible thing to do

Pinned

Allwillbewell2 · 01/04/2025 16:43

OP are you feeling alright? I looked at some of your past posts, your replies are very confusing, is there someone in "real life" you can reach out to speak to?

Thanks yes I have been very confused recently with other deaths.

Turns out this was from his mother so yes it's real and case closed. I wish she'd said that in in the first place really confused me yesterday if it was a joke or not.

So game over he's died.

refreshingseahorse · 01/04/2025 11:35

Who did this? Was it someone you know?

AdoraBell · 01/04/2025 11:36

That is awful, I can’t see anyone who could find it funny.

PiastriThePastry · 01/04/2025 11:36

What the fuck? That’s completely awful, I don’t blame you for being upset.

TheBuffetInspector · 01/04/2025 11:36

They're clearly a dickhead.

Plus April Fool 'jokes' end at midday on the 1st. Supposedly.

TreatYoSelf2025 · 01/04/2025 11:36

That’s not a friend.

What an absolutely disgusting ‘joke’.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 01/04/2025 11:37

Whoever did that is a cunt of the highest order.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 01/04/2025 11:37

That is disgusting.
I genuinely would walk away from a 'friend' who thought that was in any way acceptable

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/04/2025 11:38

Might not deserve a kicking, but I don't think a very loud bollocking would go amiss.

Whoever thought this was funny - you're a pathetic cunt.

Garlicgarlicgarlic · 01/04/2025 11:39

Who texted you that? They need some kind of psychiatric assessment.
It could never be described as a joke, this was a deliberate act of cruelty.
What did you say to the person?

TranceNation · 01/04/2025 11:39

That's not even funny. To even have their sort of mindset to think that is a joke is very suspect.

loropianalover · 01/04/2025 11:40

Who did this - the friend on here that you think will be reading, or do you think the friend who was reported dead will read this?

I agree with you it’s a particularly horrible thing to do.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 01/04/2025 11:40

And honestly, they do need a kicking, they're a shit human

Lavender14 · 01/04/2025 11:42

I think I'd not be bothering with someone who thinks this is funny in future.

Clapometer · 01/04/2025 11:44

That’s a vile thing to do to someone. This is why I hate April Fool’s and any other kind of practical “joke” - I’ve never understood why anyone would be amused by making a fool of another person. Not funny at all.

CosyNavyLeader · 01/04/2025 11:44

This is awful.

What a relief it isn't true. Although it's going to take a while to get over the initial shock.

I hope you're okay and I'm sorry this happened to you.

SleepingStandingUp · 01/04/2025 11:48

Well I wouldn't be friends with someone who did this. Honestly that simple. It's a disk trick to pull.

WearyAuldWumman · 01/04/2025 11:50

Horrendous.

spiderlight · 01/04/2025 11:51

That's an absolutely horrible thing to do to someone!! Bloody hell. I'd be ending that friendship.

Resilience · 01/04/2025 11:51

Simply not funny.

I’ve never liked the kind of humour that is about “winding people up” - it demonstrates a tendency towards liking upsetting/humiliating others.

AnotherHappyCamper · 01/04/2025 11:52

I would never, ever speak to that person again.

(And just in case this post is an April's Fool...meh, you didn't fool me)

CarrieOnComplaining · 01/04/2025 11:53

Very malicious
And sick.

Did the friend know? I would be furious, hurt and disturbed if one of my friends told another that I was dead.

Butchyrestingface · 01/04/2025 11:53

Friend is on here but I'm sure she can cope with me being 'public'. And hello, my darling!

Was it the friend who did/was responsible for this?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 01/04/2025 11:55

I can't understand practical jokes. I never have been able to. Programmes like 'Beadle's About' just made me cringe myself inside out, feeling for all the people who got pranked (and I even hate the word 'pranked' - it's not a 'prank', it's upsetting someone because it's supposed to make them feel SO MUCH better when they realise they've been had).

Unsubtle, upsetting and juvenile. I'd cut contact with anyone who played a joke like this on me. (So if this is an April Fool, I'll have to leave Mumsnet...)

HereintheloveofChristIstand · 01/04/2025 11:59

This is just horrible.
I remember having a 'really funny' neighbour who texted me to say my young labrador had got out and he had just seen him out on the main road. I will never forget the horrendous feeling as I raced across town to come home. I arrived and doggo was sitting in the hall wagging his tail.

AlohaRose · 01/04/2025 12:00

Who phoned you? The friend you have mentioned here or someone else entirely? How did you find out this was untrue? To be honest, I'm not sure that this has anything to do with April Fool's Day and isn't just an unfortunate coincidence of someone deciding to be an absolute c%^&*$!
