I've just had the nastiest April fool whatsoever

Friend is on here but I'm sure she can cope with me being 'public'. And hello, my darling!

But phone went off middle of the night telling me childhood friend had died. Turns out this is nonsense. Isn't that a really cruel thing to do to someone? I was throwing up. I'm not sure what I'd gain from posting here just a bit of feather soothing and 'relax'. I don't want anyone to say they deserve a kicking I just think that was a horrible thing to do

That actually comes under the definition of 'malicious communications' and is an offence. I know someone who texted something similar as a 'joke' and they received a visit from police.

I'm sorry you experienced that OP.

OneAquaFatball · 01/04/2025 12:08

nobody who’s actually received one of those calls would ever think this was something to joke about. i hope your friend continues to live a life insulated from that kind of pain tbh as she’s gonna need it if she keeps throwing friends away like this

Iwanttenofthose · 01/04/2025 12:12

That was an April Fools joke? Your friend sounds fucking deranged.

That is absolutely awful and not funny at all. I hope you're OK.

I don't like April Fool's anyway, most pranks are not funny and the ones about pregnancy make me feel nauseous.

seagullstolemypie · 01/04/2025 12:14

How on earth could any right thinking person think this was even remotely amusing?! It's sick and cruel and certainly no April Fool - the person doing it needs to take a good hard look at themselves, if they are capable.

Lyra87 · 01/04/2025 12:15

That's not an April Fools joke. That's a horrible nasty thing to do. Death should never be joked about. I'd be very angry with the person who text you that.

ThejoyofNC · 01/04/2025 12:16

To OP- I'm so sorry, that wasn't at all funny. Please block this (hopefully now ex) friend.

To OP's "friend" if you are indeed reading this- you need to get help. You are sick in the head.

thankyounextplease · 01/04/2025 12:18

Throwing up? Really?

GCAcademic · 01/04/2025 12:18

That would be friendship ending for me.

CautiousLurker01 · 01/04/2025 12:18

TreatYoSelf2025 · 01/04/2025 11:36

That’s not a friend.

What an absolutely disgusting ‘joke’.

This. If your friend is really on here and reads this I hope they now appreciate what a foul and pitiful excuse of a human being they are. They would also not be my friend any more.

Block and move on.

alwaysdeleteyourcookies · 01/04/2025 12:18

If someone thought it was funny to say that a friend had died when they hadn't that person would longer be in my life.

I've had enough actual death around me for a lifetime. They'd be told to fuck off forever.

LBFseBrom · 01/04/2025 12:20

It was a horrible thing to do. It beggars belief that anyone would consider that funny. I didn't know adults played April fools' jokes, not known of any for years.

Ellie56 · 01/04/2025 12:20

That's not a joke or even remotely funny.

It's just sick.

Who in their right mind does that? Hmm

Iwanttenofthose · 01/04/2025 12:21

thankyounextplease · 01/04/2025 12:18

Throwing up? Really?

That's a mean response. Lots of people experience nausea and vomiting as a response to bad news or other types of trauma / stress, it's normal. We don't all process loss in the same way and at the time it would have felt real to OP.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/04/2025 11:38

Might not deserve a kicking, but I don't think a very loud bollocking would go amiss.

Whoever thought this was funny - you're a pathetic cunt.

I couldn't have put it better, @NeverDropYourMooncup. I'd be rethinking the friendship.

BananaPalm · 01/04/2025 12:25

Omg, who are you “friends” with? Psychopaths? Hope you’re feeling better now…

Iwannakeepondancing · 01/04/2025 12:26

That’s sick. Who would do that?

Delphiniumandlupins · 01/04/2025 12:26

An April Fool should be funny. How could anyone think that was funny?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 01/04/2025 12:26

That's awful. I had someone do similar many years ago. They didn't get that an April Fool is something silly that is obviously not true, like the BBC's spaghetti trees or the Swedish underground workers unearthing Thor's hammer. They thought it was just about lying well enough for some to believe it. There's some very strange people out there.

TheJollyMoose · 01/04/2025 12:28

Well, that isn’t funny, but throwing up seems like an overreaction Confused

I can't imagine anyone throwing up because someone has died. Unless it was because they were viewing the body.

It's been mocked too much on people saying the phrase "screaming, crying, throwing up" to be believable.

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 01/04/2025 12:33

Does the so-called ‘dead’ friend know? Was she in on the joke, or not?

I’d not have anything to do with the original ‘prankster’ ever again. That’s really really below the belt.

GasPanic · 01/04/2025 12:34

"Friend" you mean.

What did you do to her last year that deserved such a response ?

And just imagine, if someone is prepared to be so unpleasant as a "joke" just imagine how they would behave if they were not joking.

Throwing up is my response to shock/nerves as well, I wish it wasn’t 🤣 I used to throw up all the time in school and before interviews etc. I’ve thrown up when family members have passed away, it’s completely involuntary and bizarre but it happens!
