@Saucery my main response to the ruling was one of concern because 1) I have been somewhat aggressively questioned while using a female toilet - I'm tall, I'm menopausal, my facial features aren't particularly pretty. There's going to be more of that and I'm 100% XX.

My DS is a transman. He isn't on any hormones but part of his range of health conditions mean he has a pretty serious beard. He leans into this, it's part of who he is. Currently he uses female toilets because he is XX. He's now going to be at risk in both sets of loos, and so few places have unisex loos available. 'Fortunately' he is disabled and has a radar key, so the disabled loo is an option he has.

I don't think this ruling is going to be a positive for anyone, sadly.

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2025 18:15

I mainly agree with what you say saucery in terms of the tone and types of discussions on this thread. I'd happily discuss women's issues on the whole and think we have done quite amicably at times.

I will point out that not every biologist and scientist is in agreement and certainly not sociologists. Science is not as settled a thing as MN claims and is forever evolving ( pun intended). I am actually surprisingly well read on the scientific debate but it's not a discussion that is not very welcome anywhere on MN.

I think someone once tried to start a kind of safe space thread for non GC discussion but it got very hijacked which is a shame. I have noticed how some women in the public eye very quickly lose the MN seal of approval if they express trans allied views.

ANYWAY, on an entirely separate note, to change the subject, I am 2/3 through Diane Abbott's book and finding it an excellent read. She really makes Kinnock sound like a bit of an arse. Well, a lot.

Saucery · 21/04/2025 18:23

I always suspected Kinnock had trace elements of Arseness Grin

No one on here needs to justify their views on gender to me, or anyone. It just rankled a bit not to be able to comment on the effect on politics. I respect the views that differ to mine and I will be sorry if the SC ruling affects the vast majority of trans people who just want to live their lives. I’m very much hoping that when the dust settles and the more aggressive protests have subsided we can all just get on with being who we are.

Reform are spamming my Fb and my letterbox with amorphous bilge promising an end to “political nonsense”. Mate, you ARE Political Nonsense!

I think we don't comment because of the risk of visitations partly but yes that's silly.

Trace elements of areseness made me LOL.

Apparently, Corbyn calls people 'duck' which I found a)surprising, as I thought he only had comrades and b) rather endearing.

It's this book that tells us of his romantic date to Highgate Cemetery which proved the nail in the coffin of their romance. Again, pun intended.

Felinnefine · 21/04/2025 19:03

The issue for Starmer is that the SC judgment affects 51% of the population of the UK (women, approximately 30million) plus 0.5% in the UK (trans people, tho that figure tbd as the censor data was said to be inaccurate and therefore an overestimate).

As PM it is usual practice to make statements on such matters. Particularly, as he has given views on this issue in the past.

The court has ruled that in the EA2010 sex means biological sex and it always did mean biological sex (shocker). Given this thread is dedicated to Starmer and his opposition, it’d be remiss to not mention this latest development.

The main issue is not that some people are trans (and their rights are also protected in the EA, as they should be), but that men are / have been aggressively trampling over women’s rights.

Starmer's silence on Supreme Court ruling is deafening

The backlash has begun. It’s happening up and down the country, where thousands of trans activists raged at the weekend against last week’s Supreme Court judgment. In London, they carried placards threatening to kill “terfs”, urinated on a statue of th...

Saucery · 21/04/2025 17:59

It’s quite a Big Deal politically, so I make no apology for mentioning it in that limited way. We discuss policing, we discuss women’s rights, we discuss civil unrest, we discuss VAWG. To have a huge galumphing elephant in the room we ignore all the other things because of is silly. Imo. I’m not interested in going into it further on here but as a GC woman I will stand up and say I’m glad the conclusion was reached by the SC.

I appreciate your view but perhaps you could just go with what we have already agreed. It's not like there's nowhere else to talk about it.

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2025 19:06

Not sure I value Unherd as a source but crack on.

Zonder · 21/04/2025 19:08

I'll always have a soft spot for Kinnock.

There’s so much to read.. take your pick and read what you agree with. Meanwhile try this.

I came on the thread to see if there’d been discussion here as it’s titled Starmer xx. Given he’s said nothing.

But yes, I won’t intrude anymore. I love the cats (and dogs).

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2025 19:13

I have done lots of reading from a range or sources, thank you.

We are at least united on the cats!

You know @Zonder, the more someone tells me snippily not to talk about something, the more I feel the urge to ignore being ticked off and discuss the thing within the bounds of courtesy.
I’ve already recognised the ‘agreement’ not to talk about Women’s Rights on here if it impacts on the feelings of genderists. But there was a huge development this week in the cause of rights for women and I don’t think it’s on to ignore it completely. So I’ll post as I see fit, thanks.

Felinnefine · 21/04/2025 19:15

I forgot. Have a look at this. Here are some ‘transwomen’. Not a threat to women at all. Can’t think why we don’t want them in our spaces.

https://terfisaslur.com/

(The truth is I feel bad for ‘genuine’ trans women and men, because these radical trans activists (same ones who ruined statues), make it worse for them).

Def going now.

I could say the same for the odious Linehan.

ANYWAY, HAS ANYONE SEEN MY GLASSES? Where on earth did I put them???

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2025 19:17

I could say the same for the odious Linehan.

ANYWAY, HAS ANYONE SEEN MY GLASSES? Where on earth did I put them???

Yep. Linehan has said trans women in women's loos should have their balls kicked. Tell that to my family member who transitioned from male to female decades ago and has been using women's loos for all that time.

Some of the extreme TRAs are violent nutters. But most trans people are not.

Are your glasses on top of your head by any chance?

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2025 19:40

No, first place I looked.

DuncinToffee · 21/04/2025 19:41

All posters on here care about women's rights.

Time to think of a new title.

I am logging off now so if the thread fills up I would appreciate it if someone can start the next.

How about Starmer: has anyone seen my glasses? 😅

That’s a great title. Please use it.

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2025 20:01

Starmer's glasses are presumably posher than mine. I think it was one of his dreaded freebies. No doubt he could get more, free !

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2025 19:40

Reading glasses? What do you use them for?
I wear the dreaded varifocals, they are the first thing I reach for when I wake up, occasionally I fall asleep in them. Losing them would provoke a massive incident in my house.

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2025 20:14

They are my Pointless watching glasses. Capital letter optional.

I found them under my Pointless watching chair!

Do what you like. I have enough respect for my fellow posters in this thread to stay off the subject. It's not about protecting the "feelings of genderists" but about respecting that we have different views and it's too emotive to discuss here.
