I am not sure why it bothers posters what we do or don't discuss.

PandoraSoxx · 21/04/2025 15:58

2dogsandabudgie · 21/04/2025 15:53

Are there any other issues you don't discuss on here or just the trans issues?

Mainly that. Some of us have loved ones who are trans, some of us are somewhere on the GC spectrum, some of us might be in both categories in fact.

It seems both sides of this particular issue are pissed off with Starmer.

Hi 👋 Piggy. I am mostly lurking on MN right now.

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2025 16:01

I reckon this is one of the most externally policed threads on MN. It's like we have our own Nanny State , tutting.

It is. And frequently referenced on other threads by posters who seem irrationally irritated by it.

DuncinToffee · 21/04/2025 16:06

Starmer's government issued a statement on the SC ruling saying this brings "confidence" and that they remain fully in favour of single-sex spaces.

I am not sure why he has to give a personal statement as well.

Importantly, has Starmer wished everyone a Happy Easter Monday yet?

Notonthestairs · 21/04/2025 16:30

Only a week to go to Ed Balls Day 🤗

SerendipityJane · 21/04/2025 16:44

But, also, I don't fully understand the legal and political implications of the ruling as regards the ECHR and the HRA

Any "political implications" are the remit of parliament to address.

and understand this could be problematical for Starmer's government, according to some on Twitter

Hitchens razor

My impression is that most people don't actually fully yet understand the ruling.

Curiously it doesn't seem to stop them having an opinion on it though.

He was a bit busy being too slow to release a statement about the Pope’s death.

Notonthestairs · 21/04/2025 15:55

Farage and Tice called for a HoC debate regarding the death penalty.
UKIP wanted a referendum on the death penalty.

This.

It might not make it into the manifesto depending on which votes they are trying to pick up but they aren’t shy about talking about it publically.

Wonder if he will now admit that he was wrong and be able to say what a woman is or will he still pander to the trans women are women nonsense.

Will it finally stop people asking the stupid question 'what a woman is'?

Hi 👋 Piggy. I am mostly lurking on MN right now.

This. And I'm very grateful. We manage to keep a nice atmosphere on the whole and that is helped by agreeing not to go there with this emotive subject. There are plenty of other places to talk about it.

You would think they would find it better to just ignore us.

Saucery · 21/04/2025 17:48

I can’t see him doing that @2dogsandabudgie . Not many have and not many will, unfortunately . Still, the SC judgement is an excellent basis for biological reality going forward and I hope the tide begins to turn back to women’s rights being at the centre of issues affecting women. No trans rights have been taken away by the ruling and I hope the violence and threats from the aggressive minority of transwomen we have seen in recent days is dealt with as robustly as any other threats of terrorism.

I know my views differ from many on these threads on this topic but tbh, I was feeling a bit disconcerted by the absence of comment on it. It affects politics, it affects women and as such, I believe discussion within the bounds of our usual courtesy shouldn’t be smothered here. What these threads are not for is an in depth rehash of the pros and cons, however.

Saucery · 21/04/2025 17:50

DuncinToffee · 21/04/2025 17:41

Will it finally stop people asking the stupid question 'what a woman is'?

With a bit of luck, yes! Because it was a stupid question yet apparently there was some doubt as to what the answer was. Well, now we know, so let’s just get on with making our society fair for everyone.

SerendipityJane · 21/04/2025 17:52

DuncinToffee · 21/04/2025 17:41

Will it finally stop people asking the stupid question 'what a woman is'?

Given that I've already seen plenty of reportage that talks about gender at birth. I would guess no.

BIossomtoes · 21/04/2025 17:53

It’s not necessary to discuss it here @Saucery. There’s every opportunity for discussion elsewhere. An agreement was made many threads ago that we’d leave that issue at the door and regular posters respect that. There’s no need to revisit that agreement.

2dogsandabudgie · 21/04/2025 17:58

DuncinToffee · 21/04/2025 17:41

Will it finally stop people asking the stupid question 'what a woman is'?

People shouldn't have felt they needed to ask what a woman is in the first place, and the fact that certain people couldn't actually answer that question is mind boggling.

PandoraSoxx · 21/04/2025 17:58

Zonder · 21/04/2025 17:46

I have noticed we get criticised when these threads are quiet too. It is most odd.

Saucery · 21/04/2025 17:59

It’s quite a Big Deal politically, so I make no apology for mentioning it in that limited way. We discuss policing, we discuss women’s rights, we discuss civil unrest, we discuss VAWG. To have a huge galumphing elephant in the room we ignore all the other things because of is silly. Imo. I’m not interested in going into it further on here but as a GC woman I will stand up and say I’m glad the conclusion was reached by the SC.
