Peas of any sort are the devil’s work.
I have medicated heavily with gin and wine.

Seems a sensible approach!

A long ago boyfriend's mother, who was lovely, used to serve tinned pease pudding when we went there for Sunday dinner.

Edited

I don't mind that. They slather it into ham sarnies round here. It's just boring but doesn't remind of the times I've eaten mushy peas and been ill.

Yeah. Not keen on the ordinary round ones, either. They need a lot of gravy.

I'm a bit medicated, too, on top of a second night of disturbed sleep. DS1 has gone up to bed so I should get some sleep, myself, in case DS2 wakes up at 4 and starts banging around again. He's taken to kicking DS1's door to wake me up 😖

Sleep deprivation is a bugger. I’m the only person in my house so unless the next door neighbour starts a fight with her bloke or a Neighbours marathon at top volume I should be ok for sleep. Neither of those possibilities are massively unlikely…

I wasn't aware I had to give a solution, that's what we pay the Government to do. I was asking if asylum seekers are being removed from hotels into flats and shared houses where are they going to be because the article didn't say.

There’s recently been a development near me the government wanted to use but it was petitioned against.

There’s lots of housing being built near me. But it’s very much the “right” people they want to move here. Locals are being priced out even in the rental market.

recently looked at private as need to move and a 2/3 bed house is over £1.7k a month! It’s unaffordable as LHA for such property is half that!

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2025 06:21

Cardi ouch. Hope you managed to get some e sleep 😴

Zonder · 12/04/2025 07:32

Ouch @cardibach I hope you managed to sleep and aren't in pain.

2dogsandabudgie · 12/04/2025 08:05

MaybeNotBob · 11/04/2025 23:19

So your solution is whatever your favoured right-wing numpty says, rather than whatever might be practical.

It's not difficult for us to see...

Not sure why you're being so rude, I was just pointing out that the article wasn't clear where these houses and flats are going to be, whether they are in the private sector, social housing or if the Government are building new ones. None of it seems feasible to me, we already have a housing shortage both in the private and social housing sectors.

Just over 500 migrants came across the channel last week in small boats. That's an awful lot of people to suddenly find accommodation for.

Zonder · 12/04/2025 08:39

Who knows where these houses are. It's all such a mess. I don't agree with some of what Labour are doing at all but I still have hope they can improve on the selfish, arrogant and downright stupid acts of the last government or three.

DuncinToffee · 12/04/2025 08:54

The housing crisis is complex, a major issue is the lack of affordable housing and the increasing rents.

A few landlords will be doing well out of government contracts.

But asylum seekers and immigrants don't jump queues as certain agendas claim.

I love peas. I put them in all kinds of dishes and I try to grow some very year which we eat raw in salads.

I am sorry for anyone who has ever been attacked by peas, however.

BestIsWest · 12/04/2025 09:16

I have to recommend Rick Stein’s braised peas with bacon lardons. It’s a favourite here.

Like a heavily reduced pea n ham soup? Mmmmm!

BestIsWest · 12/04/2025 09:22

A bit lighter in fact, made with frozen garden peas, shallots, bacon, a bit of wine and parsley. Delicious.

That I can confirm.

The housing block they wanted to use here was mainly 1 bed apts so wouldn’t have skipped over the families and disabled people here needing accommodation.

And it was housing them all in block. It would have ideal as near to town and amenities and would have had a community feel.

It’s been blocked though. I expect now it’ll be used for private rentals at £1k a month. So will be paid for mostly through UC I imagine - again government money.

Absolutely the issue is price. These people claiming asylum have fled god knows what on a dangerous journey. If they have a right to remain they have a right to be housed and work.

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2025 09:30

FWIW I can’t stand peas.

or bean or sweetcorn or anything with that texture 😂🫣

I adore mushy peas. I'm the only one in our house who does though.

On the good news front, my drelative is home from hospital after nearly 3 weeks. Still poorly, but a whole lot better than they were. They are going to be treated as an outpatient for now.

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2025 10:32

That’s good news littledrummer I hope they continue to improve well.

Notonthestairs · 12/04/2025 10:32

Oh I think we can credit Gove with a lot more than Brexit can't we? Just look at education and SEND.
I am more amused by Schapps getting a knighthood.

Thats positive news Llittledrummergirl.

I love mushy peas but only with fish and chips.

cardibach · 12/04/2025 10:34

Excellent news @Llttledrummergirl !
I am fine this morning. Finger a bit sore and not too pleasant to look at but on the mend.

Zonder · 12/04/2025 10:41

What's with all you weirdos who don't like peas?

I can cope with us not all having exactly the same political leanings but not liking peas may be crossing a line. Shocked, I am.

Sorry 🫣😂

cardibach · 12/04/2025 10:59

I’m sorry too @Zonder
I just can’t cope with either the taste or texture. Can just about manage baby ones if someone serves them up to me, but no others. And I wouldn’t choose them. Pea soup somehow manages to intensify the texture issue too. I’ll eat most things - but I can’t do peas or broad beans. Or sprouts unless done in such a fancy way they cease to be sprouts in any meaningful sense.

DuncinToffee · 12/04/2025 11:33

House of Commons sitting has started, Reform are attending

Sorry Jane, the only mint the bookies are making are pea flavoured
