Grouse tax. Famous here has been out every evening for the past 2 weeks.

A bit rich of rummly to complain that there might possibly be a left wing media source somewhere. Particularly to complain about Byline Times which is pretty much the only media doing real investigative journalism these days...

They really do want to shut down anyone arguing against them...

If that’s aimed at me, it’s complete crap. I don’t try and close anyone down.

If you believe Byline Times is reliable knock yourselves out. Few do.

As for Laura K and the BBC being right-wing, I get that the perspective depends on where you stand on the political spectrum, but I suspect most would strongly disagree.

SerendipityJane · 11/04/2025 21:02

Whatever that means - which I suspect is not a lot - it doesn’t answer anything.

Yes, we've all had enough of experts.

What experts would those be, on this thread?

Is Bylines the new Guardian? I remember you deriding that in a similar way.

Right, got it.

Agree with posters on this thread: open, free speech. All good.

Disagree with posters on this thread: shutting down discussion.

Byline Times were right aboutt Dan Wootton

I noted Sophie Ridge’s (Sky) recent comments regarding being told not to mention Brexit post referendum.

Why wouldn’t similar editorial influence be exercised in other coverage and by other news channels? Do we think it is limited to Sky?

As I have said (too many times!) The Times under Tony Gallagher is vastly different to The Times under John Witherow. Certainly I think he is more openly aligned to Murdoch’s worldview. I’ve been reading it for 25 years.

Surely it’s an expected part of ownership and leadership of media that their interests influence coverage? Why else start up GBNews? (Obviously GBNews isn’t a news channel etc)

Or why else own a newspaper - it’s not like they make money.

Tycoons own most media. What do we think they want from politics?

Just catching up - have been in A&E after slicing my hand really deeply on a tuna tin…111 made me go. Brilliant service. Triage nurse assessed, steri stripped and glued and I was out in quick time.
My grandad was Irish but selfishly got himself born in Wales so I can’t claim citizenship.
It’s clear the majority of the press leans right to various degrees. It’s been obvious the BBC isn’t neutral for at least the last 10 years.

DuncinToffee · 11/04/2025 22:48

Oof Cardi, that sounds painful.

Wasn’t my best Friday evening, Duncin. I was supposed to be at a chilled out gig too. Hey ho. Next time I’ll buy a bloody takeaway instead of trying to cook healthily!

Hundreds of people seeking asylum are to be removed from nine hotels across England within weeks

Asylum seekers moved out of the hotels are expected to be placed in longer term temporary housing, mostly flats or shared houses, managed by the Home Office.

Where are these flats and houses? I thought there was a housing shortage with Councils having thousands on their waiting lists.

What is your solution again?

Ouch.
managed a similar injury with a tin of tomatoes years ago.
definitely the right move to get it checked out quickly.
takeaways definitely safer!

I wasn't aware I had to give a solution, that's what we pay the Government to do. I was asking if asylum seekers are being removed from hotels into flats and shared houses where are they going to be because the article didn't say.

People complain when asylum seekers are put up in hotels. And now they are moaning when they are put up in flats and houses.

Where else can they be housed?

PandoraSox · 11/04/2025 23:12

Ouch @cardibach.

PickAChew · 11/04/2025 23:14

Ouch. That's the sort of thing I'd do, @cardibach though I normally stick with pricking myself with pins.

DH asked me to hear him up some mushy peas while he went out for fish and chips earlier. (he helpfully ready me the cooking instructions on the tin!) the smell reminded me why I don't eat them 🤢🤢🤢

Wasn't aware what I typed was seen as a complaint. Just wondering where all these flats and houses are going to miraculously appear from.

So your solution is whatever your favoured right-wing numpty says, rather than whatever might be practical.

It's not difficult for us to see...

A long ago boyfriend's mother, who was lovely, used to serve tinned pease pudding when we went there for Sunday dinner.

Peas of any sort are the devil’s work.
I have medicated heavily with gin and wine.
