Just noticed that awful film Mrs Harris goes to Paris is on TV I saw it at the cinema. Awful and the write up sounded so good. Hated Mama Mia and Barbie too.

Anora. I felt the whole film was geared up purely for the male gaze. But then I think a lot of Oscar winners/nominees are just guff. Though I enjoyed Conclave.

So did I. Had quite a heated debate with DH about it. She was a version of manic pixie dream girl. Not really fesity or liberated at all. I thought it was such a manipulative, male-centred dodgy film masquerading as trendy indie.

Despite my username—Wicked (both movies). Fell asleep in them.
Everything Everywhere All at Once—couldn’t finish it.
Anything Marvel 💤
Inception

I have only skim read and mostly disagree. I love American Beauty and Lost in Translation.

…. but Titanic is a horror, and so so slow. I should have let at the half way point.…. my ex would have Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. (I disagree)

I really liked both those too - I absolutely hated conclave and the salt path - both bored me rigid and mama Mia- even though I love Abba.

burblish · 29/03/2026 23:52

I'm another one who can't bear "Forrest Gump". To add to its all-round awfulness, the whole stupid schtick about life being like a box of chocolates because "you never know what you're going to get" doesn't work for UK audiences because our boxes of chocolates come with descriptions of what each chocolate is!

Another one I loathed that I don't think had been mentioned yet is the Spielberg film, "AI" - utter garbage.

Dirty Dancing, hated it! Apart from the music.

Hate the movie hate the music. Such a stupid plot. Rich people don’t go as families to country club camps and have dancers hanging around to teach them to dance. So unrealistic. Utter shite.

GentleSheep · 30/03/2026 00:02

Avatar.
Any of the Twilight series.

JuliettaCaeser · 30/03/2026 00:09

Stupid Coen brothers films. You’re supposed to like them to be cool. The one with the serial killer with a bad hair cut was the worst

Tinker Tailor soldier spy men in grey suits whispering to each other bored to tears.

Marvel films. Stupid. And again it’s cool to like them

Bloofly loved la la land though fantastic film sobbed at the end

CornishTeaTime · 30/03/2026 00:23

Dune 1&2

lobeydosser · 30/03/2026 02:50

No-one has mentioned two of my least favourite films, both from yonks ago. The Tim Burton animation "The Nightmare before Christmas". Tedious. Yet apparently Congress in the States has designated it as "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" Who knew ?? Not me..
The other one - even older, still more tedious - is Xanadu with Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly. The music is fine...but the action is just dire.

CookingFatCat · 30/03/2026 03:10

The Aviator. Howard Hughes biopic. Dull dull, duller.

God yes, agree with you

ArtAngel · 30/03/2026 10:03

LaLa Land

Mrs Harris 🤷🏻‍♀️. It was never meant to be one of the great films of our age, it had Lesley Manville and breathtakingly beautiful frocks.

LaLa Land won numerous major awards.

Thin, meaningless, long, self indulgent.

TigerRag · 30/03/2026 10:04

The dark Knight rises

Weeelokthen · 30/03/2026 10:12

Lost in translation
Anything where men wear bright lycra suits
Star wars
Any "action" movies
Anything with Olivia Coleman
Oh and I cannot bear to watch the desperate Amanda Holden, just throwing that in here because she creates such a visceral response in me 😂

the80sweregreat · 30/03/2026 10:17

I don’t understand the appeal of Marvel or DC films.
Really not my thing ( never seen Star Wars either )
People rave over them!

italianlondongirl · 30/03/2026 10:43

I think the pull of The Shawshank Redemption is definitely Morgan Freeman’s voiceover

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/03/2026 10:54

One flew over the cuckoos nest
Load of shite.

MajesticWhine · 30/03/2026 11:01

Lord of the Rings and everything associated with it (Hobbits etc)

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 30/03/2026 11:04

Quentin Tarantino anything, I love them actually but why so much shooting and blood?! And yes I know that’s his trademark.
