Just noticed that awful film Mrs Harris goes to Paris is on TV I saw it at the cinema. Awful and the write up sounded so good. Hated Mama Mia and Barbie too.

Adam Sandler is my red flag too.

Mine three. Avoid like the plague. The Wedding Singer was utter shite and put me off him for life.

Any Star Wars films, just find the franchise soo friggin boring…
lord of the rings
hunger games

I am of the Star Wars generation and I find the whole thing dull as dishwater.

Not a fan of fantasy stuff either but a friend who was absolutely obsessed with Lord of the Rings made me sit and watch the extended editions on consecutive weekends about 15 years after they came out, and to be fair, they're great films!

Once Upon a Time in America - I thought the rape scenes were particularly badly done. I stuck through to the end and hated it but have just started giving up with films with terrible rape scenes (eg Blue Velvet).

Raging Bull was also awful for different reasons.

I feel like these films are made by men for men and we are supposed to like them, but they are just awful.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/03/2025 00:36

Lord of the Rings
Harry Potter

Velmy · 30/03/2025 00:36

I remember being bored to tears by The Pianist when I first saw it.

vickylou78 · 30/03/2025 00:39

So many mentioning dirty dancing!! I loved that film when I was a teenager.... probably watched it about 40 times!!
Also love the original 3 star wars

I agree that LaLa Land was awful. I couldn't watch it.

There's a rape scene in a French movie called Irreversible by Gaspar Noe that's incredibly well shot, and one of the most shocking/unsettling things I've ever seen in a film.

It does an incredible job (tough to explain how without plot spoilers) of contextualizing it and the damage it does to the people involved.

The film isn't for everyone but it's worth a watch.

Lord of the Rings (I fell asleep)
Titanic

But I did like Mrs Harris Goes to Paris - it's charming, and Lesley Manville is dab.

I also fell asleep during Lord of the Rings, also fell asleep watching the last Bond movie. My husband couldn’t believe I was fast on in the cinema 🤣

dizzydizzydizzy · 30/03/2025 07:42

Star Wars
Pretty Woman

EasternStandard · 30/03/2025 08:13

I could only bother with ten minutes of Mrs Harris

Love Actually

Not that keen on ET

Kissedbyfire1 · 30/03/2025 08:19

Gladiator

Missey85 · 30/03/2025 08:26

Avatar it's boring as hell and just rips off other better movies 🙁

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 30/03/2025 08:34

Lost In Translation. No idea why people like it so much.
There are lots of films mentioned on this thread that I no doubt would hate (Mama Mia, Bridget Jones, Mrs Harris Goes to Paris, Love Actually etc) but they aren't the kinds of films I'd watch in the first place! I love Star Wars and Harry Potter. LotR is amazing, but not for anyone who doesn't like fantasy films!

azuresky50 · 29/03/2025 23:43

ALL Marvel movies

Oh god absolutely

the80sweregreat · 30/03/2025 08:41

Most Spielberg films I don’t like , ET is over rated and I’m not keen on the Indiana ones either.
Mostly because Harrison Ford is seems to be a totally boring self absorbed idiot when anyone tries to interview him.

Fictionreader100 · 30/03/2025 08:48

I've only ever watched the first Bridget Jones , that was enough for me . Also a no to Star Wars ,the Alien franchise , LaLa land , Mama Mia , Dirty Dancing , Barbie and actually most of any anticipated ' this years big blockbuster films '

devildeepbluesea · 30/03/2025 08:53

Came on to say Bridesmaids.

And in a similar vein - The Hangover and all the equally awful sequels.

the80sweregreat · 30/03/2025 08:57

Bridesmaids was boring and gross.
The only scene I liked was when she making that cup cake.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 30/03/2025 09:13

I saw Mrs Harris and the latest Bridget Jones with the same group of people. They picked them. Neither of the films had a decent plot. Mrs Harris did have gorgeous frocks though. Bridget Jones left me cold. I'm not a fan of Avatar. Too long, too boring. Moulin Rouge I liked for the music, although Ewan McGregor shouty sings. I'm another who isn't keen on Jim Carrey films with the exception of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Happyinarcon · 30/03/2025 11:06

The king’s speech irritated me.

pinotnow · 30/03/2025 12:42

Lost in Translation - sexist and racist and with a totally unbelievable main female character. Made even worse by people over the years lecturing me that it is 'supposed to be slow,' and making it I just don't get it. I do get it and it's shit.

Marley and Me - Just wrings far too much sentimentality out of it. When the dog first gets ill I felt tearful but 30 minutes later I was willing it to just die and my tears had completely dried up. Did they think he would live forever? Why do they encourage their children to see it was the end of the world? I say this as an animal lover who has grieved my pets when they have died. It totally put me off Owen Wilson too.

the80sweregreat · 30/03/2025 13:15

Most big films that have won Oscar’s and awards do tend to be a bit too long or dull. Hollywood do a good job of hyping up the ones that have the biggest backers I think , but that’s only my opinion. I wasn’t overly keen on La La land, but it has the best ending of any film I’ve ever seen!

sciaticafanatica · 30/03/2025 13:19

Titanic shite
Highlander shite
Harry potter Shite
Gangs of New York shite

Shawshank Redemption. Totally overrated

It’s really not!
Maybe you didn’t like it, but you can’t deny the quality.
