Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Not a great acquaintance with British colloquialism either.

MyNameIsX · 27/03/2025 21:53

Continued deflection.
Continued gaslighting.

BIossomtoes · 27/03/2025 21:56

Continued annoying posts. It’s like the bore who sits down at a pub table of regulars, tries to monopolise the conversation and won’t take the hint when they ignore them.

You aren’t ignoring them, though?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 27/03/2025 22:02

I only occasionally contribute to these threads but I do follow them with interest. Sadly it's really become quite toxic recently but I hope it returns to the more respectful debate and discussion that is its more usual MO.
I therefore offer a cat as a calming influence (and I can confirm he's definitely a freeloader who has never paid any tax all his life)

Oh that's exactly what it's like. We can just carry on our conversation around them and maybe they'll give up and go find another table if they don't get any attention.

FWIW - and there’s a lot I disagree with in the recent newer posters’ comments - it’s not like gatecrashing a group of regulars at a pub table. At all.

This is a chat forum. It’s open to the world. It doesn’t have any hierarchy among posters and there are no conditions for admission to any thread. It’s totally different to a group gathering privately round a table, or anywhere else, in a pub.

One of the less attractive features of these otherwise interesting and engaging political threads is the sense that comes out now and again that they’re regarded as a club for like-minded members.

How absolutely tragic.

Labraradabrador · 27/03/2025 22:15

@MyNameIsX i’m happy to chat! I don’t agree with everything you’ve posted, but happy to engage, unlike @Zonder and @BIossomtoes . Will gently encourage them to set up their own personal chat if they object to general input that they don’t agree with.

DuncinToffee · 27/03/2025 22:15

And another one pops up.

Not you Rummly but what is wrong with like minded 'members'?

I think these threads are becoming weird so have some more tax from me.

Are dms working yet? Why not just take it offline and talk quietly amongst yourselves if you don’t like the public aspect of public forum?

Maybe Rummly and Labraradabrador & X can all share their tax returns privately.

Pretty sure I’ve got a 20 year old Boden dress in that pattern.

Nothing. But it doesn’t apply to an open chat forum.

I would agree that people should act courteously and thoughtfully - which includes not posting - on threads about, for example, sensitive personal issues. But threads about politics are not in that bracket.

Why don't you pop off with your friends and try it out. Lmk how you get on with making a group chat in DMs.

That's ridiculous Rummly. I actually expected better from you. So much of MN is about people finding like minded people and chatting together. It's not all AIBU.

Good for you. I’d be embarrassed to admit I was a pet of an online clique of over a decade. Let alone admitting to bullying people off corners of the World Wide Web. These threads are comedy gold. They are world wide. Not some exclusive Labour love in.

Demanding personal information is not acceptable on any thread

Yeah. Didn't want to mention that it's an immigrant.

Interesting. It's considered rather rude in most circles to insult longstanding members of a group and try to hound them out, particularly when you've only recently started conversing in the group.

It makes more sense, for those who don't like the established group discussing issues, to either enter the conversation respectfully, or to fuck off without trying (and failing) to insult their intelligence.

Yes. There are things that are not on, whatever the subject.
