You haven't answered the question about care work. Or cleaning. Do we not need those either?

Completely aside from that, there's a whiff of superior xenophobia about the assumption that immigrants only do low paid work.

As for @DuncinToffee and @blossomtoes posts, this is what we in the biz refer to as 'conversation '. It's part of being on a discussion forum. It's kind of how things work online.

The NHS would be fucked without them.

Fuck off dear is quite polite, isn't it?

The Tories are also complaining that the welfare cuts didn’t go far enough

The welfare cuts they couldn’t wouldn’t didn’t implement?

There is more than a whiff of bullshit coming from your posts…deluded and condescending…oh dear 🤦‍♀️

pointythings · 27/03/2025 16:28

Wow, we're suddenly seeing a lot of new faces!

@marshmallowmix I asked a question about care workers and cleaners. No answer as yet.

Then I pointed out that it's condescending to assume immigrants only do low paid work - do you disagree with that?

Lastly, the pp commented condescendingly about the way people communicate on these threads. I replied in kind. Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

Notonthestairs · 27/03/2025 16:28

150,000 vacant social care posts. 90% fewer visas granted last year.

Nobody should be pretending this won't make social care more precarious.

itsgettingweird · 27/03/2025 15:39

The welfare cuts they couldn’t wouldn’t didn’t implement?

Labour's fault, of course.

marshmallowmix · 27/03/2025 17:01

@pointythings are you the thread police of who can be on a thread! Sarcastic comment…

Nope…didn’t think so.

The pp didn’t say anything condescending about the way people communicate… a tag team they mentioned as you seem to operate that way 🤣….

Permanently offended it seems when people don’t agree with you is what I am seeing

2dogsandabudgie · 27/03/2025 17:01

Of course we need carers and cleaners but we shouldn't be relying on immigrants to do those jobs.

Meanwhile another 1722 migrants arrived by small boat crossings in the last 7 days. So much for Starmer and his 3 word "smash the gangs" slogan.

BIossomtoes · 27/03/2025 17:03

Wow, we're suddenly seeing a lot of new faces!

Aren’t we just? I wonder what the attraction is all of a sudden?

So how are you going to fill the existing 150,000 social care vacancies? Obviously we can’t leave vulnerable people without care. For one thing it contributes to delays in hospital admissions which damages productivity.
If you are going to raise wages then we’ll need to increase council tax and £ from central funding.

Filling them with immigrants is not exactly productive, because every worker comes with a whole family of dependents.

Diorchristian · 27/03/2025 17:14

@2dogsandabudgie apparently many boat arrivals go to pizza places and drive the mopeds and do other deliveries.

DuncinToffee · 27/03/2025 17:16

Budgie, those migrants are asylum seekers, there is a difference.

Curious about the sudden sidestep of one poster from the stomping ground of the relative safety of Telly Addicts. Why this thread of all available political threads and why now? Most peculiar.

One thing that accelerated the Deliveroo etc phenomenon was Covid. People are used to leaving home less. It's an exploitative gig economy some of it for sure but it's being fuelled b the demands of a capitalist , immediate gratification and more socially isolated culture.

Farage said they are going straight to the benefits office, both can't be true 🤔

Are you going to answer the question about the shortage of care workers?

We don't tag team - we communicate. When we agree with what a pp has said, we acknowledge that. These threads have been going in some form for almost 10 years, we have all come to know each other very well so we have developed ways of communicating which may not be the norm on Mumsnet. Newcomers do tend to see things in that which are not there. Is that so difficult to accept?

And of course anyone can join these threads. But we do disagree fairly robustly with each other at times, so if newcomers find that difficult then they may not enjoy being here. It's up to everyone who posts here to decide whether they want to stay.

DuncinToffee · 27/03/2025 17:51

The few times these threads get policed, it seems to come from lurkers reporting posts.

It can be used as a discriminatory marker in "AI" models.

If I were in Government the first thing I would have done is reverse Hunt's NI cuts.
Then I'd make the case for the Single Market. Astonishing we are still having to drag our heels over this.

A customs union would be a welcome second best option if the single market could not be agreed with the EU.

I would have ended the temporary fuel duty cut first, but NI cuts probably a close thing. Well second and third, as the first thing I'd do in government is ensure BST all year round.
